I said franchise was unplayable for me. That doesn't mean everyone, plus RTTS and exhibition games are perfect. Personally I wouldn't buy a PS3 just for this game, but on the other hand if you buy one then you need to get this game.MUTTS wrote:So I'm hearing all of this and wondering if I should hold off on my purchase of a ps3 (mainly as a BR player) until the fall as the theater wont be coming together until then, there is always the chance of a price drop, and the game I want (the show) seems to be losing some of its luster.
Web/other ps2 players-- Ive contemplated the ps2 version. Are you seeing these same issues? What are you doing for rosters?
Thanks as always,
Tony

I would agree that no one game justifies the purchase of a console, but The Show is really good. I'm playing a franchise with the Cubs as Danimal is, and while the fatique is not modeled correctly, it's been more of an annoyance than a game breaker. I still love the game. It captures the spirit of baseball better than any game since High Heat and has incredible atmosphere to boot.MUTTS wrote:So I'm hearing all of this and wondering if I should hold off on my purchase of a ps3 (mainly as a BR player) until the fall as the theater wont be coming together until then, there is always the chance of a price drop, and the game I want (the show) seems to be losing some of its luster.

In the meantime, you're not going to see a big PS3 drop between now and the fall. You'll get a bargain BR player that can perform as well or better than most of what's on the market. It's still not cheap at $400, but if you have the money, want a hi-def video player, and want to play a great baseball game, I think it's worth the money.

I've been debating if 'now is the time' to pick up a ps3 too, Tony, and have been going back and forth about it the last few days. I know I'll have one eventually, but I too was going to wait until the next price drop. Probably still the case, because though the Show is the game tempting me the most, I also honestly feel that you get most of the same goodness of the game in the ps2 version.MUTTS wrote:So I'm hearing all of this and wondering if I should hold off on my purchase of a ps3 (mainly as a BR player) until the fall as the theater wont be coming together until then, there is always the chance of a price drop, and the game I want (the show) seems to be losing some of its luster.

I've definitely seen the player fatigue issue in Spring Training in my season mode. I have no idea if guys get tired more quickly in ST than they do during the regular season, but yes, the issue is present and annoying in ST. Guys tire way too quickly.
I don't plan on starting my 'real' season until I get opening day rosters, as I'm mostly using this time to test out modes and settings, and so I haven't worried about getting rosters yet. I'm very confident that SCEA will provide the same timely and thorough updates that they have in the past, though.
It's more than worth the price of the system to me, as well. I had started a game against the Cubs in my Cards' franchise on Monday, and had to turn off a 0-0 pitchers' dual between Zambrano and Looper in the 5th. When I started the game again last night, Lee hit a 2 run HR in the bottom of the 8th against one of the Cards' lefty relievers to take a 2-0 lead. The Cards loaded the bases in the top of the 9th against the Cubs closer and tied it up on a double by Ankiel. The game then stayed tied until the bottom of the 11th when Ramirez singled in the winning run. Just another Cards-Cubs game on the schedule in the middle of July, but this game does it almost perfectly, IMO.
The fatigue issue isn't bothering me that much. Yeah, it's unrealistic, but it forces you to "manage" a little more through the course of the season, which I think is a good thing, makes it more challenging. I've only been using my default lineup one or two games after an off day, then after that it's time to start juggling the lineup, which has been interesting, and it keeps it fresh.
Same thing with injuries. They seem a little exagerated to me so far. I'm only a month in to my season and I've already lost Sabathia for two months and Betancourt for a month. It's forced me to make roster moves that I wouldn't normally have made.
I know I could turn injuries down or off altogether, but I don't mind, same with the fatigue issue, I'm just rolling with it, seeing where the season leads me.

You PS3 guys seeing a fair amount of errors? They're pretty much non-existent on the PS2 version. Which is strange, because I know they were in the game last year.
Now that these games seem to be doing a good job of depicting walks, they need to really address how errors are portrayed and recorded in these games.
They're a big part of baseball, and I've yet to see a game handle them correctly.

The error I see most often is the third baseman throwing over the head of the first baseman. I probably see that every three games or so. I have yet to see an error in the outfield. I've seen a couple balls go under the third baseman's gloves as well as the second baseman's gloves. I don't know if this is a bug or not, because it doesn't get mentioned by the play by play. I did notice an error show up in the box score on the ground ball under the third baseman's glove though.
I'd like to see a little more frequency of errors, mainly throwing errors from the outfielders.
I see too many passed balls for my liking. It's frustrating especially when I have a great defensive catcher in Yadier Molina. Might have to toy with the sliders a little.

Errors on the PS3 have been all infield so far. What's kind of cool is that guys will bobble the ball but still have a chance to make a play. I have not seen an outfield error yet, but I have come close to misplaying the ball a couple times where my guy had to make a last-second adjustment that the announcers noted.
I do think this is a great game. The fatigue issue is unrealistic, but like lex said, it's kind of a challenge and makes you have to plan your lineups more carefully. The AI in the game is just incredible. You will not only see it do smart stuff, but you'll see it make mistakes, like leaving in a pitcher too long. The CPU baserunning AI is the best I have ever seen.

From playing this game at my neighbor's house, the one thing I LOVE about The Show is how smooth the game flows, MLB 2k8 has the WORST transitions going from a hit to the next batter, etc..
The Show models a FULL game of baseball better than any game I've played.
I have pondered trading in my 360 and library of games for the ps3 now that I have a new TV with HDMI.

While I'd like to see more, I haven't had a 'non-existant' experience in playing on my ps2. I've seen infield and outfield gaffes.AJColossal wrote:You PS3 guys seeing a fair amount of errors? Seomeone gathered all the devs' responses, so you don't have to trawl through that thread:

Really interesting stuff!

I got to agree. But it's sad that these expensive next gen consoles, maybe 1 or 2 games out of hundreds are worthy to be called next gen.MizzouRah wrote:I still think NHL 08 is THE BEST sports game on a console.GTHobbes wrote:I agree...but I'd extend it to include any sport. PLENTY of great games, at least that I know of on the 360... but for sports titles, he's right.dbdynsty25 wrote:Whoa...easy there with the exaggeration. Had you said next gen sports games, maybe. R&C is a good game Triple A title? We'll disagree.dbdynsty25 wrote:

Right and you said:And he said NEXT GEN, which would include the 360.

So even if I give you the 2 above and my 2 that's 4 titles. Maybe that's a ton to you. <shrug>

There was a patch last year although I can't remember if it was only for online play or if there were other fixes. Plus in that same thread the developers mention that are working on a patch for issues. So hopefully some of this stuff will be patched up and taken care of.Danimal wrote:I'm only 12 games into my franchise, every position player has had to sit once. My catchers sit every 3 games, granted the Cubs catchers are not work horses. It's a problem, I'm not sure why anyone thinks we will get a patch, when have they ever patched anything?
It is a really good game, But you start adding up all these "little" annoyances it piles up.

I was referring to both systems as a whole...since I have both systems. Sorry, I will spell it out for you from now on.Danimal wrote:Right and you said:

And where did I say triple A titles. I simply said A...not A+ either. A. I mean it does get an 88 on metacritic. That's pretty close to an A title. And I happened to think it is.

My bad thought you said triple A apparently I can't read either. I'm just not a fan of platformers, I didn't enjoy Mario Galaxy eitherdbdynsty25 wrote:And where did I say triple A titles.
