MLB 2K8 interview

A bit of both. For some of the cards that require walks for example I just didn't swing at all when those guys came up too bat. For guys that require RBIs I won't score the guys batting ahead of them even if they could easily make it in. Of course I don't do this in Franchise mode so I'll do it with teams I wouldn't usually play as in an exhibition game. I'm glad they put the card stuff in there, its a good time.JackB1 wrote:for you guys that are collecting the cards....are you just getting them as you accomplish certain things or are you specifically TRYING to accomplish them? Some of them seem rather difficult and I haven't gotten any in 2 games yet.

The Card Checklist in the pause menu.
Is there anyway, once you've hit a face button to tell a runner where to run, to cancel it? I had a man on 2nd, going to third. i hit the face button for home, but then wanted to return him to 3rd. I tried hitting the face button for third, and also the Retreat the Runner trigger, and he ignored both.
This would suck if you can't cancel the button presses.

just played a franchise game against the Cards, Zambrano hit 3 batters, 2 in a row, unintentionally of course, and didn't get ejected.
the camera pans to LaRussa, and he is just pissed. you can see him mouthing off to his assistant coaches. he comes out to argue and gets ejected. that was so great.

I always use the r/l triggers to advance one particular baserunner or the r/l bumpers for all and I have had no problems going back. I have gotten into a few rundowns where I go back and forth several times, but I don't know about using the face buttons.Gangrel wrote:The Card Checklist in the pause menu.

I haven't gotten any cards yet, but haven't tried to purposely get them either.Inuyasha wrote:What's the best way to get cards? Franchise mode? I've been doing exhibition games and only got 2 cards so far since the players accomplished the task on the card.
How do you accumulate the points to buy a pack of cards?
If you are playing Franchise, it's harder to get them because you are soley trying to win the game, but if you are just playing Exhibition, you can purposely try these things, even thought it might be detrimental to your wining the game.
Did you plunk Zambrano when he was at bat? I would have smacked him in his head.TheGamer wrote:just played a franchise game against the Cards, Zambrano hit 3 batters, 2 in a row, unintentionally of course, and didn't get ejected.the camera pans to LaRussa, and he is just pissed. you can see him mouthing off to his assistant coaches. he comes out to argue and gets ejected. that was so great.

Are you guys signing out of your VIP?JackB1 wrote:I haven't gotten any cards yet, but haven't tried to purposely get them either.Inuyasha wrote:What's the best way to get cards? Franchise mode? I have collected cards when I've kept the VIP on throughout the game. One game I signed out, signed back in in the 8th inning. After the game it stated I had received a card, but noticed after that that card was not in my collection.
Has anyone kept a card after signing out and then back in?
Pete, yeah, evn after the update, you have to edit those minor leaguers who haven't played in the majors. mostly the fake players have the same initials as the real life counterparts. at least with the Cubs, 2k did a great job going deep in to the minor leagues with actual prospects. there may have been one or two that had the same initials, height, weight age, position etc but had the wrong skin color. its too bad because you can't edit that on the players. there is a project over at OS with a list of most of the fake player to real player conversion.
MizzouRah, actually the Cards didn't retaliate, which is amazing since LaRussa is known for having his pitchers protect his hitters. I guess they felt they were hitting Big Z's pitches so well, that that was enough damage.

I looked at some tradable lists on XBL and it's incredible how some people have so many cards already. I still have one Paul Konerko card since I used the WSox in an exhibition game and he hit a hr.
It's a shame they made this game so not pick up and play. I think they're losing a lot of ppl who get turned off initially when picking up the game. Once the framerate is off and you learn how to pitch, it's really sweet.

So today I packed up and sent off my 360 to be repaired, after finally getting the 3 red lights. As it is a launch system, I suppose I should be glad it lasted this long.
Strange thing is, I was talking to my buddy who works at Gamestop, and he said that I am the third person he knows who has gotten the red lights AFTER purchasing 2K8. Strange, I don't know why that would be the case other than coincidence. Perhaps it is working the video card to hard it's causing the problem.
It's probably nothing, but interesting none the less. I was getting consistant lock-ups from the game also, just before the lights popped up. I'll have to play 2K5 on my original Xbox in the meantime. It actually works out, since my HDTV took a dump on me also, and it will be a couple of weeks before they can come out to fix that.
Thank goodness for boardgaming!

Agh, my first freeze today! I played a game, and won my first! (finally) but this was with VIP off.
I decided to play a second, but leave VIP on to get some cards. Well, on a popup to first base in the 8th, with my Nats holding onto a 5-4 lead over the Braves, the game just froze. I noticed the game stuttering all to heck right before, so it makes me wonder if the VIP problem isn't causing some of the freezing problems too......
sigh... I guess no cards for me until the patch comes out.

I found a bug with the DL.
I had one of my minor leaguers go down with a 44 day injury. I put him on the 15 day DL, thinking I would just replace him on it two more times.
When the first 15 days was up, I got the popup telling me this. I then selected to manually fix it, and went to the DL screen. You are SUPPOSED to be able to hit A and "change the disabled list time", but when I hit A, it did nothing.
I have no idea if the option works if you select someone who's time on the DL hasn't finished yet, but I wouldn't think you could change the time until the first period was up?
Has anyone else noticed this???

I read on OS I think that the patch is supposedly in the certification process for MS. Then again, they said the demo was in MS's hands 3 weeks before it came out.... lol.
I just hope if this is only a framerate fix that they will address the other bugs in a separate one (which I think they are, such as the Padres bug).....

That Padres bug fix is supposed to be included.
Is anyone else really loving this game?
Is there a pitcher you really like using? For me Zambrano is just amazing on this game. I can easily go 4 or 5 perfect innings with him. I like his assortment of pitches. He has a cutter, 2 seam, 12-6 curve, slider, and change. I've become real good at throwing this curve and will get the cpu looking and chasing off the plate.

It's too early for me to really get into a franchise with this game. I'm still playing NHL 08 to death and waiting on the rosters and patch before really engrossing myself.
Plus, it's been rainy and cold here in St. Louis and I just can't get into baseball yet.
One more thing, since getting our new TV, we've been some big time movie buffs.

I found this thread over at "Game Faqs".
http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmes ... c=41981453
I guess this guy found a new technique for using the "Hit Sick 2.0".
Basicly he says that hitting is a 3 step process.
1. Step (right before pitcher releases) 2. Release the stick. (After step) 3. Swing (when pitch reaches the strikezone).
I was a little skeptical at first. After I tried it I was amazed with the results. I actully won my 2nd game ever!
If anyone is still having trouble getting solid hits, give it a try. He goes into more detail about the hitting process in his post.
