Blame Ovechkin and the B's defense, Sudz! :)

James is right: Just engrave the Hart Trophy for Ovechkin now. Thing is, I still think AO would be the odds-on favorite for the Hart even if Crosby was healthy. That's how good Ovechkin has been this season.

Man, I hope the Caps make the playoffs. I need a team to cheer in the postseason, as it's very doubtful the Oil will pull off a miracle and grab the eighth spot in the West.

Take care,
PK

That was a beauty. This guy was all emotional when he learned of the trade, as he didn't want to leave BUF. Now I am sure it's the fans crying the same tears, they'll miss him dearly. Especially when they're still in the hunt for the playoffs.

BTW, pretty good scrap between Brashear & Thornton last night.

Oh, yeah, saw the highlights of that one. It was what I call a "lumberjack fight." Both guys looked like they were operating a long saw on a big tree, one guy cocking back his fist to throw while the other was throwing, back and forth, back and forth, repeat, repeat, repeat.

Great tilt! You need to have big balls to take on Brashear.

SO who's the toughest SOB in today's NHL, PK? Laraque and Brashear don't seem to fight as much as they did in the past. Partly because they're older, partly because their peers know how tough they are. And then you get some youngers guns like Thornton last night and R. Cote from Philly who won't turn down a challenge.

E. Godard, J. Shelley, Z. Chara are among my other choices and then you get what I call the wrestlers like, G. Parros and C. Orr.

But pound for pound Brashear and Laraque ought to be in the top spots.

I still think The Donald and Georgie are tops. Boogaard is an animal, but his reputation almost precedes him to the point where no one will fight him.

A tip of the hat, though, to Columbus rookie Jared Boll, who leads the NHL with 22 fighting majors.

Add another to the clutch-and-grab legion: Edmonton's Zach Stortini. He'll drop the gloves with anyone and tries to throw. But most of his fights end up being grabfests. Stortini is a super-nice guy off the ice, so combine that with his fighting style and his large physical size, and he has a new nickname in Edmonton: Huggy Bear.

:)

I think the Avs' Ian Laperriere is underrated as a veteran fighter, especially since he's not the biggest guy in the world. He'll go with almost anyone, and he usually gives as good as he gets. I've always respected Laperriere as a fighter.

I also admire Daniel Carcillo in Phoenix. Another little guy who will dance with nearly anyone. Carcillo is what Sean Avery and Jarkko Ruutu should be: Guys who run their yaps constantly and then are unafraid to back up their words with their fists. I have ZERO respect for Avery and Ruutu because of they way they turtle after they run their mouths.

Take care,
PK

Does Edmonton have a specialist shootout coach we can steal?

Yes. His name is Mathieu Garon -- 10-0 as a goalie this year in the shootout. He has allowed just two goals in 32 attempts this year in the shootout.

Garon is simply impossible to beat on the ice in the shootout, but no teams in the NHL must watch much video, as players continue to go low on Garon.

I'm not complaining. I think the shootout is just wonderful. The Oil has an NHL-record 14 victories in the shootout this season. :)

And I hate it, for obvious reasons. 'Nucks have been on the other side of the coin, that extra point is just sooooo precious when it comes to the final week of the season.

It's probably going to be seen as cliche, but he's pretty much the only Leaf who would drop them on a regular basis: Wade Belak is a fairly tough fellow and he's taken on some of the best with positive results.

Flyers got screwed last night in one of the worst blown calls I've ever seen. Roy scored the tie-breaking goal last night in the third on a breakaway, receiving an outlet pass without a defender within 60 feet. Watching the game I was flabbergasted at how he could've gotten so open, but turns out he was an extra skater.

Roy admits he hopped on a little early, but how early was it? Roy hopped off the bench, skated behind the defense, received the pass, skated in on the goalie and scored, and his man STILL hadn't made it to the bench.

It's one thing to have bad or early change, but for a guy to simply hop on the ice behind the defense in the middle of the play when his teammates are 50+ from the bench is completely inexcusable.

As crazy as this sounds, A.O. is 10x better with Backstrom on his line. The rook is consistently getting Ovie the puck in great posititons (like he needed it already).

I am very excited to see Semin in a few more games with Fedorov on his line. Supposedly Feds is talking non-stop to him.

Huet has back spasms. Damnit.

Four officials on the ice and none of them notice an extra Buffalo skater... pathetic.

The more I think about it, I'm not sure which is more pathetic; that none of the 4 officials on the ice noticed, or that no one on the ice or bench for the Flyers noticed. If I was on the ice as a defensemen, and one moment I have all 4 BUF skaters in front of me, and the next moment an extra skater magically appeared behind me I'd be screaming bloody murder the second he touched the puck.

Oh, those Caps are a fun team to watch. You can tell they have a tonne of confidence and even Sergei is playing like he used to some 10 years ago. AO scored two more, I think he's the best player today, the total package, surpassing Vinny. At this rate he'll score 60 in no time. That N. Backstrom is fun to watch too, hope they can keep it going.

J. Tootoo is one of those cheap fuc**rs I love to hate. The guy plays hard but he's got this nasty habit of sticking his stick down your throat before he drops the gloves. With R. Krajicek out for the season, and potentially M. Ohlund, the hit on A. Miller was cheap with the score already out of reach for NAS, and the 'Nucks D will be thin on D once again. What a miserable season for injuries.

Another rough game for your Bruins tonight.

Leafs and Philly is going to be a real interesting matchup later on this week, with a home and home series. It's about the only thing keeping the dream alive for Leafs fans.

Air's boy Belak held his own with heavyweight champ Laraque last night, his first fight in a Panthers' sweater:

Riley Cote and Andre Roy had two fights last night, and the second time Cote dropped Roy with a single punch. It was fantastic. :)

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ASuFSwY1atA

Roy was screaming mad for the rest of the game, at one point having to be physically restrained by the Tampa Bay coach. I'm not sure if Cote did something contrary to the fighters' code, or if Roy is just a really sore loser.

That was hilarious. I'm not so sure Roy was yelling at Cote from the Tampa bench. Downie was sitting next to Cote jawing at Roy, and Cote was just staring Roy down.

Good stuff.

The Ducks' Corey Perry is out six weeks due to a lacerated thigh tendon, suffered when Jose Theodore's skate cut him.

Sure seems to be more skate laceration injuries this season than in past seasons. Maybe the gravity of the Zednik injury, and the graphic pictures, has caused me to exaggerate the number of injuries. But I know a couple of other guys have been cut this year by skates, too, including the Oilers' Ethan Moreau.

Roy was suspended by the team today for his behavior during the game. What a jackass.
