And while i don't want to get into slider talk i do have a quick question as to what difficulty you are all playing on and if you've touched any sliders (i guess this means i want to get into slider talk a little . I am on AS with the Red Sox and dropped Wild Pitch and Passed Ball sliders, dropped Pitch Speed way down and upped Pitch Count. That's all i've touched. So far i think that's fine with only a lack of CPU power being an issue but i don't want to touch that stuff for a few more games as perhaps Beckett's dominance is a reason for that (i threw him in one exhibition game and then game one of the season).
Anyway, just curious to hear where you guys are at.
Yep, this game rocks, that's for sure.
I'm playing on AllStar, and I haven't touched the sliders yet, but I agree that passed balls needs to be toned down a bit.
I wanted to comment on the Pitch Speed slider though. There is a thread over on the OS MLB08 Slider forum that suggests Pitch Speed may be tied to the physics model. In other words, a slower pitch speed may equate to less power, as there is less energy being transferred from the ball to the bat. Just something to keep in mind if you have power issues once dropping down the pitch speed. Haven't experimented with this myself, so it may be bunk....
LOL...the entire inaugural game I played was pretty bad from a commentary point of view. They called Beltran, Delgado and vice versa, and Smoltz was the player of the game but they called him Hudson. It's a good thing it doesn't matter what the commentary says...the game is phenomenal.
Others have reported this already over on OS, but I have the Profile Stats problem. Here's my supposed stats so far after a few exhibition games and a month of RTTS...

Yeah, that's the way it was last year as well - disappointing they didn't fix it.
After browsing the menus and playing 1 full game I feel like it's a solid game. I'm not upset with anything other than the lack of a fantasy draft. I'm also not real excited about it. Aside from fixing some of the minor issues like the framerate, and having different overlays, the game feels just like 07.
I'm glad they made the font a bit larger throughout the menus and overlays. Much easier on the old eyes. Other than that, there's nothing much to add. It plays just like 07, which is not a bad thing, but I don't really feel like I bought a new game.

Got the game yesterday and unfortunately I'm having the same freeze up at the start, that I had last year, screen w/ps3 internet connection enabled. I know its a conflict with my router, and I'm lost when it comes to its setup,so no updates or patches. I'll have to wait on some rosters and DL them via a flash drive. 1 game in though and its baseball heaven.

I couldn't get in upon initial boot-up, but I was able to get online on my second or third try and download a roster. Of course, when I was finished it crashed and then when I rebooted the game it crashed again. Ugh. Once I signed out and loaded the game again it was fine.
The game so far is exactly what I wanted, which was a (major) graphical upgrade and some fine tuning to what was an already almost-perfect game.

Is this for the psp version or the ps3? If it is the ps3, this is the first comment I have seen about a bug in commentary. Just curious.
Wow, I was blown away last night! I never saw The Show on a PS3 before. I didn't DL the demo, and last year I only played the PS2 version, so last night I was going in cold. All I can say is, "WOW!'
It took me over an hour to play my first game because I got so caught up in the presentation, graphics and animations. Geeze. Just incredible!
I didn't see any bugs mentioned here yet, but I've only played two games and I'm still looking at it through rose-colored glasses.
One thing that was a *slight* letdown is that they still call it "Jacobs Field", not "Progressive Field". (THAT'S IT!!! What a showstopper!!! I'm taking it back!!!)
PS, I love how the Cleveland crowd booed Jim Thome every time he came up, just like in R/L. NIce touch.
Regarding the crowd booing, I have found something a little funny. Playing with the Cardinals, the players who get booed are the ones who were brought up in the Mitchell report (Ankiel and Glaus). Talk about crowd intelligence!

I didn't know you got rid of it. No wonder I never see you online with it.
I finally got my copy yesterday but I was only able to play two innings. Those two innings were awesome though. I noticed the difference from last years game (and even the demo) immediately. I was struggling to find my location with Zambrano even though I wasn't horribly off on my timing. It really had a High Heat vibe to it. I ended up walking 2 guys in 2 innings. This was on default out of the box.
At the plate I saw such a variety in hits and fouls. Way more than last years.
The only little bug I saw was when I struck a guy out the umpire clearly called "Strike Twoooooooooo!" An audio glitch is no biggie to me though. I can't wait to get into it tonight.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.
Scoop touched on it briefly, but the biggest thing I have noticed from '07 to '08 is the pitching. It seems this year moreso than last year, I can't pin point my pitches as well. That's definitely a positive. I'm not complaining. Sometimes, they are in the viscinity but it's not unusual to see a pitch that I have breaking down in the zone to end up too far inside or much lower than I had anticipated. Because of this, I find myself getting deeper and deeper in to pitch counts. Then again, it also might have to do with the CPU being able to foul off pitches better than it seems a year ago.
What I love though is the variable umpiring. If I see the ump call a pitch outside and low off the plate a strike more than a couple times, I will use that to my advantage. Essentially, that's either my pitch to get ahead in the count, or ring the batter up.

PS3...and it didn't happen in the 3 games I played after. Maybe they just hate the Mets...which I don't blame them for.
Here are my PSP impressions I previously posted on OS:
Just played my first game and here is my take:
I agree that not much has changed since last year's version, but what has changed is worth my $40. First and foremost, the framerate has been fixed! I quit playing 07 after a few weeks because of the terrible framerate, but this year's version is 100% smoother. I also think the crowd is more lively and the presentation is slicker. I have also seen a few new animations in the infield. Even though the PSP has a sleep mode, the in-game save option is also a nice addition. I didn't expect a drastic change this year and there wasn't one, but I am very pleased with what I got.
I played a few more games yesterday and I am also noticing a better hit variety. I have seen choppers, flares, and ropes down the line that I didn't see the past few years. I also noticed Joba Chamberlin and Phil Hughes' rotations are spot on as is Melky's batting stance (same as the PS3 version). I know some on here are saying '08 is the same, but I have found several noteworthy differences and I'm really enjoying the PSP version (as well as the fantastic PS3 version).
I've had a great time so far with this game. It's really my first time with the series, so just getting used to the controls/interface, etc... One thing that really helped was turning on the plate coverage indicator.
Otherwise, classic pitching feels really good to me. I walk guys here and there and can't pinpoint pitches by mastering the meter.
I've definitely seen a lot of cool things so far - a triple play on my very first plate appearance (kind of strange but that's baseball!), a robbed HR followed by my player throwing his glove in the dugout in frustration, I took a no-hitter into the 6th and the announcer admitted that he was jinxing me by talking about it - and obviously it got broken up soon after.
I am interested in hearing about the pitch speed/power correlation a bit more. I lowered pitch speed all the way and have played 4 very low scoring games on all-star default. First three games were 4-0, 2-0, 2-0 losses and my last one was a 2-0 win where I 2-hit the Angles for a complete game shutout with Chris Young. I am considering bumping up power for both user/cpu, but maybe pitch speed would be a more natural adjustment?

The same thing happened to me last night. The announcer said something like, "Carmona's got no-hitter stuff tonight" and sure enough, two pitches later they line a single right back up the middle on me. It was only the third inning, which I thought was kinda weird to even mention a no-hitter that early, I wasn't even thinking about it yet.
Maybe that's a trend. So if your guy's got a no-no going, and the announcer mentions it, WALK HIM!

I think this would have to be my one HUGE negative about the PS3 version. That jumped out at me right away last night. I had been playing the PSP version over the weekend so I knew it had the in-game save option. When I could only play a couple of innings last night I thought "No problem I'll just save the game and finish it tomorrow after work." It makes no sense to me that the PSP version has this feature when you can essentially pause the game but the PS3 version doesn't.

The PS3 version has in-game saves for season and franchise games, just not exhibition games. Huge feature for me this year on the PS3. I agree though about the PSP - sleep mode worked fine the last couple of years.

pardon my ignorance, but is there a roster update and if so.....WHERE? Thanks!
edit: n/m Just signed online and it asked if I wanted to save roster for offline use
As for in game saves, I believe quickplay does NOT have in-game saves but thats it
