Sad day as an NFL fan but...
Ding Dong! The Witch is dead. Which old Witch? The Wicked Witch!
Ding Dong! The Wicked Witch is dead.
Wake up - sleepy head, rub your eyes, get out of bed.
Wake up, the Wicked Witch is dead. She's gone where the goblins go,
Below - below - below. Yo-ho, let's open up and sing and ring the bells out.
Ding Dong' the merry-oh, sing it high, sing it low.
Let them know
The Wicked Witch is dead!
what a happy f***in day as a Bears fan!
Seriously, much respect for what he was able to accomplish. I would have liked him much better had it been somewhere else.

I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.

Sorry, but I'm not buying this one bit.
One, Favre is a football lifer. His epitaph can simply read, "Here lies a football player," and everyone will understand.
Second, Favre has dallied with retirement over the last few seasons. He returned last year coming off a sub-par season. This year he was superb, yet he's retiring? He even said in his voice mail to ESPN's Chris Mortensen that he knows he can still play the game.
Plus, do you think one of the ultimate NFL competitors is happy that his final play was that costly interception against the Giants in the NFC Championship game at Lambeau?
I'll believe this when Packers' training camp is underway for about two weeks without a sighting of Favre in pads.
I'm serious.
Take care,
PK

Whether people love him or hate him, Favre was a great competitor and a gambler to say the least. During the playoffs he singlehandedly took the Packs by the horn and beat the Seahawks after being down at halftime in a memorable performance. Few times did I cheered for my team yet had a soft spot and admiration for what he was doing on the field.
You may be on to something here. He may be mad that they didn't get Randy Moss which he may have believed to take them to the next level.pk500 wrote:Sorry, but I'm not buying this one bit.

With Randy Moss he could fling it as long as he could and RM would bail him out. He hasn't a receiver of that caliber presently. But we shall see.

Seriously, if you turned on ESPN this week, you'd think he died, not retired.

What's with all these people blubbing like kids on TV when they retire ?
What the f--- has Brett Favre got to cry about ?
Oh yeah - he's got as many superbowl rings as Charlie Batch, and every time they get knocked out of the playoffs in recent years, one of his errant throws is at the bottom of it.

It's looking more and more like I was on to something -- and not on something -- when I made my prediction March 4.
And good for the Packers to tell Favre to f*ck off. The organization has been working hard the last four months to move forward without Favre. It takes a LOT of arrogance for a guy to waltz back into the picture just three weeks before training camp and expect the red carpet welcome treatment, especially when that guy plays the position of QB.
I admire the Packers' brass. They're sending a clear message that no one -- even a legend who is one of the top five players ever at the position -- is larger than the team.
Favre clearly is putting his interests above those of the team by trying to crawl back to the team just days before training camp starts, and that's wrong.

I tend to believe that Favre is a selfish, drama queen in all this.
But I heard that when he announced the decision to retire after last season, the Packers signaled to him that they were ready to move on, by not explicitly asking if he's coming back.
Or something along those lines. So there was apparently some hurt feelings and he whimpered away at the time.
But apparently he got his nerve back.

I've never liked the w*nker - hope he ends up playing behind a porous line and gets the sh*t beaten out of him. Maybe he can show his skills in the cheap and cheesy dive competition by ducking down on the floor, like he did for his buddy Strahan.

I think that's a little harsh -- and I'm a Bears fan.pk500 wrote:Favre clearly is putting his interests above those of the team by trying to crawl back to the team just days before training camp starts, and that's wrong.

Favre has always given this team his all and turned around a team that had been a laughingstock for a couple of decades into a winning club. I will be the first to say that he's handled this poorly, but at the same time, I understand how he could feel like he could come back. He's still better than 80% of the starting QBs in the league, had a great year last year, and ended his career with a bad interception. He wants to keep playing, he still can play, so why not? He should have known better in the first place and not announced he was retiring.
The best thing to do would be to trade him, even if the Packers don't get a huge offer for him. The best team for him to go to would probably be the Vikings -- which I'm sure is why Green Bay won't release him outright. But Atlanta wouldn't be a bad choice. They have a solid RB tandem and a good WR in Roddy White, they are in a bad division, and it would allow Ryan to sit for a year or two instead of being thrown to the wolves. The Jets would be a good choice, but I read they aren't interested. The Ravens and Bucs would make a lot of sense as well, especially since Baltimore was not ready for McNair's retirement.

Brando:
This situation is being handled poorly by both sides, no question.
Favre's ego is bubbling to the surface through his request to return to the team just days before training camp, but Ted Thompson also looks like a complete dick for trying to ensure the only way Favre can play in the NFL this year is as Rodgers' backup.
The Pack should trade Favre, as you said, but Thompson is scared out of his wits that Rodgers will be a flop and that Favre will lead his team to a better record than Green Bay. That's why you'll NEVER see Favre traded to the Vikings!
