Didn't see a NBA thread on any of the last few pages, so I thought I would start one.....
1) What do u guys think of the Bibby to Atlanta trade? Being a Hawks fan, I am pretty excited about this one. The Hawks desperately need a quality PG and I think Bibby will make a huge difference. Here is info on the trade: http://hawks.portspaces.com/post/hawksb ... y.html
2) Did u guys catch the Dunk Contest? Howard was unbelievable!
The one where he bounced it off the backboard with his left hand and then caught it and dunked it with his right looked like something out of NBA STREET That guy has talent.
I thought the cupcake was the most original...and I didn't see the big deal about the super man dunk...he threw the ball in from 2 feet away...IT WASN'T EVEN A DUNK! Clever yeah...but not a dunk. Off of the back of the backboard was just stupid ridiculous...very impressive. Dwight deserved to win overall...but I thought Green was just a creative, if not more. The socks thing was cool...but as Dr. J said, no one knows how difficult that was.
^well in Howard's defense, I think he was trying to make the illusion that he was flying horizontaly and above the rim to throw the ball in. Like Kenny smith was saying it is definitely in the top 5 of all time. Green blowing out the cupcake was absolutely amazing, and he wasn't even up as high as he was in one of his final round dunks. the one where he had McCants on top of the ladder giving him the ball. His chin was above the rim.
Can anyone fill me in on Mike Bibby? I know he is a great shooter and makes a lot of 3's, but do you think he can be a vocal leader on the court? That is something the Hawks sorely need. Also, how is he defensively? Can he play an uptempo, running style? Is he a good penetrator?

Granted, I'm a laker fan, but I did see an s-load of Bibby. All I can tell you is that everyone thought he was going to be a superstar, but that never really happened. He's scrappy, can make clutch shots, and can be a letdown on when it comes to team chemistry. (despite looking like mini-me, he doesn't get along well with teammates).
I think bibby is a good addition for ATL, but I don't think it raises them above a "one & done" team for the playoffs (at best).

The problem with Bibby to the Hawks is that he's a shooter. They have a bunch of athletic swingmen that need to have some help getting their shots. Bibby isn't that type of PG. He would have fit much better in Cleveland, where most of the offense would go through LBJ and he can just spot up and hit shots. The Hawks need a distributer and a playmaker...Bibby is not that. He's essentially a shooting guard...in Sactown, he had the ball so much, he just happened to get some assists.
They still won't make the playoffs (thankfully...since the Suns get their pick this year).
Just want to throw some love out to Jose Calderon of the Raps. He is seriously busting out this year - shame he wasn't chosen for the all-star game, but many years to come for that.
Another beautiful performance against the Magic tonight- 8/10 shooting for 19 pts, 13 assists and 1 turnover.
The most amazing stat from the last 11 games - shooting over 70%!!!!! A point guard!
Crazy trade the Cavs made, they traded away half the team. I bet Hughes and Wallace both do better on their new teams. Hughes never seemed to fit in here and couldn't stay healthy. I'm glad he's finally gone, but he'll probably kill us with the Bulls, since we still play them four times this year. Hopefully Wallace will be a little more motivated being out of Chicago and with a contender. Who knows? Plus the Cavs finally get a true point guard in West, and some outside shooting help in Wally. But some say Joe Smith is the sleeper in the deal. I think the sleeper could be the draft pick we get from Chicago, since we never seem to have enough draft picks, and considering we tend to waste them on guys like Shannon Brown and Luke Jackson.
Should be interesting to watch how this all comes together over the next few weeks.
I no NBA fan, but I'm happy to read that former Syracuse star Hakim Warrick is playing very well for Memphis. Averaging close to 20 points per game in his last five or six games, since the Pasol deal.
Always thought all Hak needed was a chance. Nice to see those trademark windmill dunks from his SU days going down on NBA highlight reels!
Take care,
PK

That trade worked out for both teams. The Cavs get some defensive help up front with Wallace and a good bench guy in Joe Smith. The Bulls get rid of Wallace and get better front-court scoring in Gooden. Hughes is nothing special but I'd rather have him than Wallace on the Bulls. I expect Chicago will now shop some combo of Hughes/Gordon/Nocioni in the offseason. Deng or Hinrich could be in the mix, but the Bulls seem pretty determined to keep Deng and Hinrich's contract makes him hard to trade.
After watching the Knicks suffer yet another 40+ point blowout, Isiah doesn't even make a move at the deadline. What, there are no takers for Zach Randolph or Eddy Curry? Dolan must be handcuffing Isiah in preparation for his eventual ouster. The Knicks are 20-53 since Isiah got his contract extension last spring.
Lakers made out like bandits. They're willing to pay the luxury tax while a lot of teams were intent on dumping salaries.
Is there a big FA class coming up or are ticket revenues down?
I don't think the lakers went over the luxury tax. That was the beauty of the trade. The salaries were near even I believe(thanks in-part to Brown's 9 million per). Brilliant. Dallas went over with the kidd trade, they'll have to pay about 9 million in lux tax!!!
edit: the Lakers likely WILL go over the luzury tax when Bynum's extension kicks-in for 2009 (assuming they don't dump some salary - hmmmm, can u say bye Odom?)

On to Detroit this weekend...well, after I go to practice tomorrow anyway. LOL.
Getting ass rapped by 30 at home... gotta love it.

1-2 for the new look Suns. Good luck.
LOL, as a Laker's fan, I'm glad the Suns made the Shaq trade.
I just got home from the Key where I watched the Lakers dismantle a pretty terrible Sonics team. The Sonics are bad, but damn did the Lakers look good. Its no joke that they are one of the favorites in the West now, they're playing really well. Kobe got ejected in the 3rd, and they still manged to win by 20.
I'm no Lakers fan, but I wouldn't want to face this team come playoff time...

I know how you feel...I watched LA dismantle the Hawks last week. They had 70 pts at the half! Kobe + Gasol is a tough combo.
Mavs-Lakers may be headed for OT as Nowitski hits a 3 with 2 seconds left to tie the game.
Lakers will be unstoppable, especially if Farmar, Walton, Fisher and Vujivic are allowed to foul and not get called. Gasol runs through Stackhouse on a 3-point attempt and no call.
