sportdan30 wrote:New trailer video. The player animations definitely look better than 2K7. It seem gone is the look of the side arm throw which I despised with this series. It appears there's a more pronounced over hand throw. That's the one thing that stuck out watching this video.

I really wish they'd do away with the blowing jerseys. You'd think that perhaps they could at least slow it down. In any case, not a bad looking trailer IMO.

Animations as a whole appear pretty similar to last years game especially the gale-force 100 mph winds blowing the jerseys around. I'm not expect a huge graphics upgrade though besides some updated signature players stuff here and new fielding animations. The stadium shots actually looked a bit weak to me.

here are some more in game videos. I've just watched the Cubs/Cards at Wrigley. Great presentation imo, walk up music. They have Aramis Ramirez down to a "T". will have to edit Kosuke Fukudome. I'm really impressed with this video.

They always seem to turn the wind up in the promo vids for some reason, to show off the jerseys. I found in my season that they rarely acted that way as there just weren't a whole lot of windy days (although I never controlled a Chicago team!)

If you watch these videos, the jerseys are not flappin' in the wind.

Totally agree with this. I don't remember any game that had them blowing like they always show in these videos. It's obvious they are letting everyone know their jerseys move.

Well, I watched the Cards/Cubs video and came away feeling meh. I'm guessing the gameplay was on fast mode.

- Only once did I hear a batter's name being introduced. Granted, they did announce the player's name when they made a play.

- The animations look a little strange when going back for a fly ball. Twice I saw a fielder go in to a real fast animation at the very end to catch the ball. It just looked awkward.

- The graphics are definitely toned down from a year ago, I suppose to compensate for the frame rate. When the wind isn't ferociously blowing, the jerseys appear ironed on. I know it's a minor complaint, but it looks a little last gen. Then again, it might be difficult to get a good read on the graphics because the videos weren't in hd.

- Why can't 2K change the sound of the bat connecting with the ball? It's inexcusable IMO. They have to have read this complaint over and over from gamers.

- I don't recall seeing any foul balls. Might just need to turn the slider up?

- Some pitches that looked clearly like balls were called strikes. Are there varying umpire personalities in this game?

Those vids are crazy underwhelming. Every ball that grazes the zone called for a strike. Few fouls. I'm not interested in slider hell. Glad to have a PS3 this year.

wow....the graphics looks so blah to me. looks like PS2 graphics.
if the gameplay is superb, I won't care, but I dont understand why they can make a game like NBA2K look unbelievably good, but a baseball game, which is 90% grass, they cant make look good?

I still really dislike the default fielding camera. Makes playing the outfield more difficult than it should be.

And while I don't mind 2k's pitching mechanics, I really prefer the MVP-style meter. It just mimics the act of pitching so much better.

It was nice to see Pujols foul off three pitches in a row.

I think 2k8 will be a good game if it builds off the post-patch 2k7, but it also seems more of the same. I'm ready for a change of scenery.

I only watched the Cards/Cubs video, but it also looks very blah to me as well. I'd love to have more than one baseball game I enjoy. But based on just the one video, I can't imagine wanting to take the Show out of my PS3 to play 2k8. Hopefully a demo will change my mind.

No PS3 so I have no choice.

But the graphics dont' seem too bad to me. I've come to care alot less about that lately though.

I played nearly 150 regular season games and 15 postseason games in 2K7 so I am more than ready to play the Show this year.

The audio is so bad in the 2K series. Once again the home crowd goes silent after a big HR. ZZZZzzz...

You got that right. I hate the audio in this series. I main problem are the 2 announcers. John Miller's voice is so boring, and Morgan just like in real life is really annoying. If THE SHOW gets rave reviews again this year, I'll probably buy ps3 and that game.

This can't possibly be a final build.. Rolen is still on the Cardinals. They do announce names.

I saw foul balls, heck Pujols hit 2 of them. It was obvious the guy that was playing was playing on PRO and swinging at everything.

I know you love The Show, but I think you're being a bit too picky here.

You're probably 100% correct that the video is not from a final build. I'm sure it's not. But, I also don't think the demo we played of The Show was the final build either. There were a few too many bugs.

I guess I'm most critical of the 2K series because of my past disappointment with the series. I will say I missed foul balls by Pujols. That was definitely an oversight. Everything else I critiqued though was nit picking, that I admit. However they are things that I've continually seen over the years.

Now, I am impressed with the new player animations. Also, the batting seems a bit more solid than it was a year ago. Of course, I can't comment on the batting or the pitching interface until I really play it. I'm hopeful both of those areas have improved. Fielding looks to be much improved and is more fluid. I'm not seeing any frame rate problems that I did before. That's a plus.

There's a lot to be positive about, but there are still lingering negatives that stand out. It's not just me who is pointing these issues out.

I think reading posts over at OS has made me a bit too defensive of this game at times, I apologize to you Dan.

I like the innovative approach they took this year with pitching and throwing, or let me say, it SOUNDS fun and innovative.

The guy who posted those videos said in a thread over at OS that he's really impressed with 2k8 and he did not like 2k7 at all. Take that FWIW.

You're lucky Dan, you can choose between two games! ;) I do believe The Show will be more polished and fluid.. as well as it should be.

Anyone know what minor league teams will be in the game? I tried some of the other forums to find out, but I'm now permanently down a few IQ points after the experience. Thank God DSP is the voice of reason in the virtual world (and that in itself is a sad statement! :P )

Yeah 90 teams from A, AA and AAA with 15 authentic stadiums and 4 generic ones.

91 minor league teams if you count the Pittsburgh Pirates.

I read this over at another site and I am so psyched for this game!

All I need is my new entertainment system to get here and my new TV and I'll be all set for the baseball season!!!

2K doesn't roll like that, sadly. EA, for once, is the innovator!

I don't think it would work well for baseball.
