Listening to the hearings now, and it sure looks like Clemens is in trouble, caught up in a lot of inconsistancies. Pettitte testified that Clemens flat-out told him that he was using HGH.

Clemens looks bad here, constantly repeating, "I think Andy is misremembering."

But this question must be asked: Why is the U.S. Congress wasting time on testimony about baseball -- or any sport, for that matter -- when we have a war on two fronts and a sputtering economy?

That's show business, I guess. It is an entertaining reality show, live from the halls of Congress.

Take care,

McNamee is tripping over his tongue, too. Man, both he and Clemens appear to be unsavory characters. No wonder they were pals.

I love it when a guy like Clemens, who clearly thinks he's untouchable, shouts from the rooftops in front of the camera that he's innocent with such confidence but as soon as he's put in front of Congress and reality sets in he looks guilty as sin. They are tearing his testimony to shreds.
I am a patient boy.

No doubt, Scoop. It's never nice seeing a guy get grilled, but Clemens is such an arrogant dick that it's somewhat comforting to see him squirm.

I think this blond-haired Congressman testifying now, the dude with the raspy voice, is on Clemens' PR payroll. I understand skepticism of McNamee and his claims, but this dude's pro-Clemens agenda is unreal.

Then again, Rep. Cummings was an attack dog taking chunks out of Clemens.

The agendas of each of these Congressmen are a joke. This isn't a search for truth; it's a televised sideshow.

Take care,

The deeper this thing gets, the more obvious that Clemens just got his hand caught in the cookie jar. But after spending millions, are these Senators actually going to do anything about it? Or, is it just the flavour of the day?

Somewhere in the background J. Canseco is smiling, at least he coughed up the roids abuse pretty early on.

I must be nuts. I believe McNamee is the one getting discredited here. Clemens isn't going to come out smelling like a rose here but McNamee is the one looking bad.

You are nuts :P ! According to Roger: Pettitte is lying, MnNamee is lying, Roger's WIFE took HGH, and yet, Clemens is the ONLY one telling the truth?? LOL...

The best was when Clemens said he NEVER talked to Brian about HGH then was busted a few minutes later when he said he had 2 conversations with Brian about HGH & his wife.

True.

I know one thing for sure - some of these congressmen/women would blow Clemens if given the opportunity.

Exactly. Which lends an even greater air of bias to the proceedings. Clemens is the legend; McNamee is the scum trainer. Supporting which guy is going to get more votes?

The final statement from the Congresswoman before the 15-minute break was sickening, and I'm slightly paraphrasing: "Mr. Clemens, I can assure you you will go to heaven."

Huh? The relevance of that?

Incorrect. He's actually not much of a NY fan favorite at all. He never has been. Now Yankee Broadcasters, on the other hand...

This whole Nanny thing was very embarassing for Clemens. His kid slept there??

The relevance of that was to point out that Clemens must be the most forgiving person on the face of the Earth if he kept McNamee in his employment after everything he did to him, only to terminate their relationship when the Mitchell Report went public.

It wasn't pandering to Clemens, it was making him look like an idiot and a liar.

I happened to be in NY last year when Clemens announced he was coming back - you would have thought the yankees just won the world series.

Ah, thanks! I missed the context. That's what I get for trying to work and listen at the same time. :)

This Rusty Hard-on guy should never find another client...ever. You can't let your client take something like this so far and then compound it by putting him out there for a dog and pony show like this.

If he has any sense whatsoever (which is obviously doubtful), he should be preparing the old fake heart attack on the floor of the hearing room gambit...or maybe have his secretary call in a bomb threat or something. :)

Believe it or not, he's one of the top lawyers in Houston. Not the most talented (far from it actually), but certainly one of the highest profile. His reputation is much higher than his abilities.

No surprise there. If there's one truism in the legal profession it's that the high-profile, big names are often products of networking and rainmaking more than legal skills. The best lawyers are the ones that those BSD's hire when the s*** hits the fan. It's usually some no-name that's toiled away in some big firm litigation dept., or on his own in a small firm for 20 years and can litigate the doors off of any case.

Just saw some highlights on ESPN.

It seemed like the Republican congressmen went after McNamee and the Democrats pushed Clemens hard, although nobody called Clemens an outright liar like Dan Burton did McNamee.

What was that about?

Did Clemens only go around meeting certain members of congress before today or something?

It's bec. those members of congress were probably awestruck by mr major league baseball pitcher. also, they wanted to be seen on the local nightly news shows making these big remarks. it's easier to put down and call a lair to the guy nobody knows.
