Another Dead X360
Moderators: Bill_Abner, ScoopBrady
Apparently quite a few people ran into this issue over the last few weeks when Live was flaking out. People who used account recovery saw some or even all of their game saves deleted!
I'm not exactly sure why this occurs, but I saw quite a few people on various forums stating that this happened to them, and I think one of the news-sites covered it as well.

Yeah Im confused too. Save games are on the hard drive only unless there is something I didnt know. That is why Im on the 3rd 360 sith the original hard drive.Danimal wrote:What does recovering your live account have to do with game saves? I'm not sure I understand the problem. It has to do with account recovery. It's one of the ways MS fights 'game save abuse' or something wacky like that. If you attempt an account recovery, you can lose all your files.XXXIV wrote:Yeah Im confused too. Save games are on the hard drive only unless there is something I didnt know. Out of the 12 we bought for the office people which was Dec / Jan after launch only 3 of them have had to go back. Of course those 3 were by the people who use them daily.Slumberland wrote:Is there anyone here at all whose 360 hasn't crapped out? Is it like a 95% failure rate?
I still don't get this account recovery thing, it must be something new because I have recovered my account in the past with no issues.

Well since I'm unfortunately laid off from work, I get plenty of game time in. 2hours in the morning after I drop the kids off at school and about 2hours at night after everyone has gone to bed.XXXIV wrote:How much do you guys play it?...Phototropic wrote:Me.TheGamer wrote: me

Interesting information if true from a Best Buy employee:
http://boardsus.playstation.com/playsta ... id=2482902
http://boardsus.playstation.com/playsta ... id=2482902
Interesting if true...no mention of price drop to $299 though...Before, i explain what is going on. I will give you my source so there is no more speculation on this topic. I work for Best Buy In Buffalo, NY & I am a supervisor for the gaming department and i have read ALOT of topics on what is going on with Sony and the question "Will there be a $299 PS3" & "The 80GB is being discontinued!"
Since getting to work i was able to get into the system and find out the SKU situation and also we have TWO Sony rep's here. After contacting several people including my playstation rep, the support crew for RLS and playstation, as well as the front offices of SCEA and SCEI I can say with 100% confidence that this is incorrect
Recently in the Employee News for Media there was a notice stating "Sony is phasing out the 80GB console, so the 40GB will be the main PS3 console going forward for now." What is happening is they are removing Motorstorm from the 80GB unit and Spiderman 3 from the 40GB unit. SCEA would neither confirm nor deny the rumors of replacing the game and movie with different titles. What they did admit to was underestimating the demand for the 80GB unit, especially after the 40GB unit was released. This is the reason why almost nobody has any 80GB units in stock. The ETA given me for replenishment of the 80GB unit in its new box was sometime from the end of January to mid March. It was in our RSS System for $449.99 In my opinion it will probably be later rather than sooner as Sony probably wants to sell throught the stock pile of 40GB units (my store alone has over 60 of them) before they put out the new 80GB unit. The removal of Spiderman 3 from the box is the reason the 40GB has gone @risk.
Also! Concerning the White PS3..
It will be released packaged with Metal Gear Solid & A DS3 For $499. It will be a 40GB Model, Hence the 40GB Being the future of Sony. The reason why Sony made it possible to use External HD's. So by summer there will be THREE models to choose from:
PS3 40GB For $399
White PS3 40GB(BC) W/ Metal Gear Solid+DS3 For $499
PS3 80GB(BC)+DS3 For $449.99
BC=Backwards Compatibility.

One more with a clean bill of health, and I play it often enough. It's made more worrying noises than any other console I own, it's the only console that's guaranteed to give a DDE whenever I play anything from EA Sports, and I sometimes get the impression that it was constructed mainly of tin foil and bits of string, but it hasn't failed. I have to say, though, that it's the only time I've ever owned a console that I expect to fail.Slumberland wrote:Is there anyone here at all whose 360 hasn't crapped out? Mine's been fine since launch, just don't feel the need to tell everyone about it..... Why would I? I wouldn't mind it if it did. I hear the new ones put out less heat.GB_Simo wrote:One more with a clean bill of health, and I play it often enough. As long as it's the 3 red rings your in good shape. Talk about bad luck I purchased my 360 with a one year EB replacement policy and it lost video output 1 year and 20 days later. No warning signs not even a lock up.greggsand wrote:Mine's been fine since launch, just don't feel the need to tell everyone about it..... Why would I? I wouldn't mind it if it did. No problem I thought Microsoft will cover this. I was incorrect. The Microsoft rep, and his supervisor both told me I would have to pay 100.00 to get it fixed. At this point I was quite angry and asked the supervisor to explain to me why I had to pay, clearly a system should be expected to last for more than a year. He stated to me over and over it was not covered under warranty. This guy wouldn’t even give me a break. Nor was I allowed to go further up the management chain, nothing either pay for the repair or nothing will be done. They just shut me down.
That bleeping box is sitting in my garage now plugged in and not well ventilated. After 4 days it still hasn’t given me 3 red rings. Maybe it will at some point and I can get the piece of crap thing fixed for free.
That sucks, Scoop.
I bought mine in January 2006 and it made it until June 2007. I had absolutely zero problems with it and then one day it just crapped out. I've had no problems with the replacement unit, and I play probably 10 hours a week on average. It still sounds like it's working harder than Dom Deluise on a treadmill, but it works.
As much as the launch reliability sucks and MS should be abused for it, the three-year warranty extension helped them save face in my book. I know they did it more to keep disgruntled gamers from jumping to Sony, but still, the fact that my XBox is covered until January 2009 without any additional expense on my part has made me a satisfied customer.
