2.5 million song downloads in 2 months, well ahead of where they expected to be. Some bands really into the process, like Metallica. Over 200 songs to be released on 08, full albums still coming....

Well, as someone who has already spent more $$$ on Rock Band DLC than he has on everything else combined since the release of the 360, this comes as no surprise to me! I'm going to need a bigger hard drive!
This was the most interesting part of the article to me:
With so many songs available, it puts into question the validity of even releasing a sequel. DeGooyer acknowledged the dilemma, stating that the proliferation of downloadable content "changes the approach [for a sequel] from one that's purely about new music to one that's about new features." That suggests that if/when there is a sequel to Rock Band, previously downloaded content may carry over.
What happens with Rock Band 2? Will it be released next year, or will it be a longer time frame? DLC better carry over or I'll be upset.

There really is no point to doing a RB2 unless it introduces new features or huge improvements in the actual game/software itself. Why not just release more and more DLC or just a disc of songs for those that don't want to download them all. You could also just put out more advanced instruments. This game is way more about the music and instruments than it is about the actual core software/game.

Rock Band 2 = Keyboard addition.

I mean, it HAS to, right?

I agree that RB2 seems a little pointless, as harmonix have constantly been selling the line that RB is more a 'platform' than a 'game.' Still, we all know it's inevitable that there will be a Rock Band 2.

I hope they figure out a way to do that.

That plus double bass option, or potentially high hat pedal.

I still remember someone from harmonix being asked about 'The Final Countdown,' and them responding that they had special plans for that song...

not gripping them tightly increases rebound.

This is pretty cool and works pretty good. I now need to find some better sounding drum sounds to put in there. Only thing is that it seems hard to keep a steady beat, maybe due to the delay between hitting the pads and windows reading it or something. I also noticed that the drums dont always register when you dont hit them in the middle.

Do you mean you wish you could just play drums by themselves? Could u just go to practice mode and turn down the volume of the other instruments?
Not sure if that would work.

I agree, it would be cool to just jam out on your drums and make like you are Bonzo Bonham in Moby Dick :) The windows program seems to have a slight delay in it that makes it hard for me to use it.

It works that way until the first drum beat comes up, then you just get the missed note sounds.

However, my kids love to band away on them, so I put it on 50% speed mode with a song that has a long intro w/o any drums (like Metallica's "Blackened"). I can get a good couple of minutes @ 50% speed that way of a real practice mode w/o having to match any notes on the screen.

Has anyone tried using an XLR3 microphone with a XLR3 to USB adapter/cable? I have an XLR3 mic that's been collecting dust ever since I got it on clearance a couple years ago. I thought about using it for recording acoustic guitar on my PC by plugging it into my soundcard with a XLR3 to mini adapter, but if I can make it work with Rock Band I'd get the more expensive USB dongle instead.

You're only looking at the new songs. Try searching for by "All Games" and then Rock Band.

Holy Sh*t Batman! I just finnished "Green Grass and High Tides" on Hard and I need to go lay down. Geeez that's a long ass song! All I can say is, I'm glad they didn't put in the live version :)

Having a blast with some of the DLC (thanks Scoop).
Anyone else try Sweet's "Action"? Fun song with the triplets on the snare!
I am so addicted to this game! I am doing a solo drum career on "Hard"
and am noticing things ratcheting up quite a bit in the setlist that includes
"Green Grass". I think the difficulty of "hard" is perfect for me. Challenging enough so that on tricky songs I have to really work at it to get thru em.

P.S. The Date on my Rockband box says Dec02 2007. Anyone know if that is "newer generation" or the earlier one?

I'm positive the contracts state that the DLC will only apply to Rock Band 1. For RB 2:

1.perhaps a song editor where u could import your own songs?
2.Better online, make ranking-up as addictive as COD4.
3.Keyboard/piano
4.Lighting Rig!
5.Web Cam Support
6.Addn mics 4 Backup Singers w/ Byrds & Eagles DLC
7.USB Beer Bong

Um what do you mean announced it earlier? Single instrument sku's have been in existence for 6-7 months. They are just now ramping up to produce them.

I have the GH3 already and all I needed was the drums. Nowhere to be found north of the border.

The DLC so far has been pretty awesome. I blew threw 2000 MS points downloading yesterday and still have a few I would like to get (would love to get "Wonderwall" to sing). But I wish they would let you preview the songs like on Amazon -- the guy singing "Limelight" is just awful. I probably still would have gotten it, but still, it's pretty bad.

It will be interesting to see how they handle a sequel. I think a second bass pedal for high hats/double bass would be cool. I'd also love to be able to do bass in the solo tour.
