2007-2008 NFL Playoffs

I don't think the Jags problem was holding by the Pats.
They gave up the underneath patterns all day and rushed only 3 or 4 until it was too late. So Brady had all day to throw passes under 10 yards with plenty of YAC.
Not to mention, facing 5 or 6 DBs most of the game, Patriots hurt the Jags with the run.
On one play, two of the Jags DL were double-teamed and the third was the RE playing contain, not even engaging with the T.
They slowed down the Pats but never really stopped them. Not surprising, they were like 17th in the league in pass defense so they're not elite in that area.
On the other side, they were able to move the ball most of the game but they really need playmakers in the passing game. Or at least guys who are going to make the tough catches.

Jags played very tough but it came down to turnovers. The Patrioits don't look unbeatable, but when they can run the ball, they are too much for just about any team.
Very impressive win by the Packers. They had better hope for a Giants win tonight, though, because Favre is horrible on the road in Dallas.

Which is why I was disgusted watching them get away with holding every time they ran the counter. That big pass play that put them in field goal range late in the game when it was a one-score game was also set up by a hold. But you are right, they look beatable.Brando70 wrote:Jags played very tough but it came down to turnovers. The d-lineman was not engaged with the offensive lineman when he was hit down low. To get called for a chop block the defender needs to be engaged and another player has to go for his legs for it to be a chopped blocked.bkrich83 wrote:How do you figure?Zlax45 wrote:The Pats got called for a BS chop block tonight which cost them points...Lets be fair that the D-lineman was not engaged.ScoopBrady wrote:It truly is disgusting watching the Patriots get away with blatantly obvious hold after blatantly obvious hold.

Well, I could not have been more wrong about the Colts/Chargers game. I completely underestimated the Chargers and overestimated the Colts. You must be happy Brian.
I will say, however, that I think that Philip Rivers is the biggest jagoff in the league. His waving bye-bye to the Broncos was pretty classless and then I see him having hissy fits on the field all day and getting into it with a fan. This guy is starting to make Jeff George look like Man of the Year material.

Excellent prediction.greggsand wrote:If Gates is NOT 100% (or doesn't even play) Rivers will be completely lost out there. Indy will destroy them.
Look for Bob Sanders to have a real nice day.
Rivers picked Indy apart, Sanders got abused and SD won.
If you'd watched these two teams play each other at all over the last 3 years, there's no way you could predict a blowout in either direction. SD matches up with Indy real well across the board.

Congrats to the Chargers...especially after getting completely jobbed of a touchdown on the Cromartie INT....nice holding call on Weddle when he bulldozed his man...what a F'ng joke!
Then that incredible phantom pass interfernece on Clinton Hart against Reggie Wayne.
Man the NFL sucks so much at times.
BTW, at least Rivers doesn't bother me that much....because he is having fun when doing all the talking...it isn't out of spite or being malicious. It's just a regular guy like us having the time of his life.....kind of reminds me of a professional wrestler taunting the fans...LOL
For what it is worth, many SD fans have been bugged by it also and it is a big topic on our sports talk stations.

I gotta say with what we've had at QB the past decade, I don't care what he does.ScoopBrady wrote:Well, I could not have been more wrong about the Colts/Chargers game. I completely underestimated the Chargers and overestimated the Colts. You must be happy Brian.

In the case of the Broncos game, there was a lot more going on there that meets the eye. He gives as good as he gets, I have no problem with that.

Chargers at this point are a better matchoff for the Pats. They dominated at Foxboro a few years ago, with Brees.
Of course the Pats are a lot different now but the Chargers have the physical capability to dominate both sides of the line.
Manning had a big game but the Colts had to work to generate those 24 points. Merriman had a huge game but he won't be on turf and Light will be harder to dominate. I think Welker had a huge game because Chargers didn't cover him.
I'm hoping LT comes back okay and Gates is better (but I have a dislocated big toe which is still sore after 3 months).
Still, Colts and Chargers beat each other up in a way I was hoping the Jags would do to the Pats. Instead, you have a team which has had to play an extra playoff game going all the way across the country, possibly to bad weather too (which might actually slow down the Pats).
Don't see it happening but didn't see it happening tonight.
Rivers is immature but he's playing well enough. He can't have a game like the regular season, where he was flustered.
Chargers should be able to move the ball. Patriots on defense doesn't have to be great. Just make a handful of plays -- sack here, batted down pass, hold on third down -- while their offense keep scoring.
Rodney Harrison is going to get another ring, while being a sleazy cheap shot player. He can keep getting those 15-yard penalties because Brady will bail him out.

Ugh, it's 1995 all over again, with the one team capable of beating the Cowboys (the defending champion 49ers) getting knocked off at home by the up-and-coming but not ready yet Packers, leading to the inevitable coronation of said Cowboys. Just change the type and insert "Patriots," "Colts" and "Chargers," and you're all set.
Oh, and then throw in that not only does San Diego not match up well with Indy (they don't defend the pass nearly well enough, and their offense isn't consistent enough to go stride-for-stride with the Pats), but they're going to be seriously undermanned, to boot.
It's a perfect cap on the worst season of my lifetime, honestly.

If the Colts can't beat a depleted SD team at home, how are they a better matchup for the Pats on the road. SD is better and deeper in the secondary and SD rushes the passer better.seanmac31 wrote:Ugh, it's 1995 all over again, with the one team capable of beating the Cowboys (the defending champion 49ers) getting knocked off at home by the up-and-coming but not ready yet Packers, leading to the inevitable coronation of said Cowboys. The Chargers don't handle being spread out as well as Indy, and they don't generate any pressure against New England with their base package. They won't get anywhere near Brady. More importantly, their offense isn't consistent enough to move up and down the field on every single possession, which is what they need to do. The Colts were snakebit with the way the turnovers worked out or they would have won comfortably. In any event, it's not wise to conflate performance in a single game with performance over the course of a season. The Chargers came in and played a very gutsy game and pulled off an upset, which is great for them. It happens. But they're going to get their doors blown off next week, which wouldn't have happened to the Colts. We've seen how Indy matches up with New England and how San Diego matches up, and there's no comparison.bkrich83 wrote:If the Colts can't beat a depleted SD team at home, how are they a better matchup for the Pats on the road. It's not quite as bad as, say, the 1985 Patriots knocking off the one team who could have hung with the Bears- the Chargers have a lot more talent. But it's along those lines.
