Almost picked up a Les Paul Standard w/ cherry burst finish this weekend to go with my 15yr old Strat (USA), but the price tag was a bit rich so soon after Christmas.

Once I told the wife that I had backed down on the Les Paul idea, the $169 for Rock Band yesterday was no biggy... then of course she went and bought some new furniture that afternoon when I called at lunch excited about my Rock Band find at Target.

Women. Could have bought both if she stayed away from that damn Lane furniture store. :x

Every time I buy a Mad Catz product I regret it. Will be interesting to see how this stuff turns out.

Same here, I don't have any confidence in Mad Catz peripherals.

I'm really impressed with the microphone actually. I mean, it's a real microphone. I tried using the headset instead, while playing guitar, and it didn't sound nearly as good coming through the speakers (I turn down the song's vocals all the way so I hear just me).
I wonder if you can use a real microphone (which I already have) with some type of adapter? What is the end of the game's microphone like?

My wife just gave me a complaint at lunch...

"Now I have drums on 3 out of 4 floors of my house! When does it end?"

Electronic drums: 2nd floor
Rockband : main floor
Acoustic kit: basement

Just need to find a kit to stick in her 3rd floor craft loft and I'll be happy on every floor. I'm considering sticking a practice pad with snare stand, sticks, music stand with books, and drum throne up there just to see her reaction.

Brando70 wrote: I can't quite tell if my red pad on my drums is faulty. At times the rolls seem fine and other times it seems like it doesn't keep up. Not sure if it's technique or the controller. It seems like if I do a lighter snare roll, it keeps up, but if I do a fast roll at a harder pace, it doesn't. Has anyone tried taping?
I can 'game' mine a little bit like that too, Brando, by doing rolls extremely lightly or rolling by hitting opposite ends of the pad...but such things are difficult to do in the middle of a tough sequence in-song.

I honestly think that the build quality of these drum sets is not up to the precision demanded by expert level songs. I think Spooky came to the same conclusion, seeing as he is really only looking for a swap when the issue is addressed...

For now, I think I'm going to try the 'penny mod' rather than the tape one, simply for aesthetic reasons.

Yeah, but the tape mod looks so rock and roll :D It's like you're playing Garage Band.

I need to test it out some more, but I think the red pad is a little less sensitive. How does EA determine whether you are under warranty? Have they even been checking purchase dates or just offering exchanges?

It was easier than returning something to Walmart, seriously. And I did it at midnight or whenever that was last night.

All they asked for was your name, phone#, and address..

Then, which piece of equipment was having the issue, then what issue it was having (all of the common one's listed).

The next screen gave me the option of the standard or express return. I chose express (putting a hold on my CC so that they could 2 day air a new guitar, rather than ship mine back and wait for the replacement).

The last page was a confirmation that I printed, showing the RMA number and UPS tracking number. No need to print it though, as a copy was already in the Gmail account I used to register before the printer was done.

I went back to the Rock Band support site this morning and there was a PM there showing the same info, with the RMA and UPS numbers.

Guess I need to figure out if my red drum is bad. I'll probably wait on that though, until they figure out a fix. The strum bar thing has obviously been solved, but I'm hearing about multiple RMA's for the red drum.

That might mean RMA'ing it in a month (I doubt I'll be playing drums well enough in that time to notice the fills not working on the red pad), or buying the stand alone kit at Walmart and stuff my 1 month old kit in the box for a return a week later. Either way, MS is getting the drum kit back at their expense if mine is bad (probably less expense if I DOA it @ Walmart since they don't have to ship it twice).

I haven't really noticed a problem with any of my instruments (acquired for the PS3 on launch day), but obviously the guitar strum bar is 'soft'.

Should I return the guitar just to get the new version? What's everyone's feeling on this exchange, is it something we should all do because the original instruments will fail at some point?

I've heard horror stories using the Express replacement method, I know several people who are on the verge of getting charged by EA because they say their instruments weren't returned, even though they have tracking information showing EA received them.

I'll be interested to hear how some of your stories work out, because my red drum is not working right and I am sure the guitar will go soon.

I chickened out on the express method fearing something like that.

My defective guitar is on the way there. Im hoping I dont have to deal the "we never got it" crap.

Yeah, I read those stories as well but figured that Citibank would cover me as I would just reject the charge if they put it on there and I can show the UPS tracking number as "delivered" with the return package they include with the new guitar.

BTW guys, I was at Sam's Club today and they have the Xbox 360 version for $149 too!!!!

So, I saved myself $20 + tax and picked it up (again) and returned that sealed box to Target today.

Wow, the self adhesive foam and felt mod made a HUGE difference.

I used black felt and cut the circles to 6.5" instead of 7", so you can see the colored rings. It looks very nice and almost completely deadens the sound when playing at normal volume.

My wife and I were playing again tonight, just finishing up now, and while she played the drums I couldn't even hear her banging on it. Mission accomplished.

I bought everything at Michael's, including the $15 circle cutter which made cutting and installation all of 10 minutes max. I might take the cutter back, but my wife says she can use it to cut pictures.

Pictures later, must goto bed. Watching my wife play drums to "...and Justice For All" got me all fired up.

So I'm over a friends house to watch a movie. Ends at 1100. We start playing Rockband with a full group.

I got home at 3. 8O

What an awesome game!

My new guitar should be here today, and I'll get the old one out to them on Monday. I'll be sure to keep an eye on the return situation.

Good to hear. I'm lazy, I ordered the pre made ones for like $22. They should be here soon. I have avoided playing the game on several occasions because I didn't want to bother my neighbor upstairs. Now I won't have to worry.

The guy selling those is just using two layers of foam, without the felt on top of it. I used foam on the bottom, and felt on the top. I think it works alot better this way as it protects the foam from damage and gives it a nice professional look.

I told my wife that she could get a nice eBay business going before MadCatz or one of these companies comes up with something pre-fabricated.

Cutting the circles in the foam and felt was effortless after I played around with the size circles I wanted for both (using printer paper as a test).

I made the felt a little larger than the foam so that it was easier to line them up when sticking together (you only get one shot at that).

Yeah, I'm surprised there isn't any of those mods available commercially yet. Your wife should really do that.
