OT -Guitar Hero:Better quality guitar for 360, GH 2 or GH 3?

Post by webdanzer »

I'm looking to snag an extra guitar for Rock Band, and I was curious to hear any DSP opinions on whether one Guitar Hero guitar version was superior over the other...functionality, durability, etc.

I played GH 1 and 2 on my ps2 and I never 'upgraded' to the 360 version because I thought it was a large investment for minimal new material, so I already HAVE gh2. All things being equal with the guitars, I'd probably go for GH3.

However, if the GH2 guitar is better, I have no problems getting that package either as there are some new songs for the 360 version as well as the DLC, and I thought that GH3 while still fun, was not as fun as GH2.

So basically, I'll be making a purchasing decision totally on the quality of the respective guitars.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

I don't have it, but Spooky's assessment matches the consensus by far.

If this holiday season hadn't already been one gigantic kick in the wallet, I'd be looking to score GHIII as well.

I've never had any problems with my GH2 guitar but I know I'm in the minority. Though I have heard that the GH3 guitar sucks as well so I think it might be hit or miss with either. Either way screw you for being able to play Rockband now while I have to wait until Christmas. :D

Thanks, guys. Since I thought I would be sticking with the series on the ps2 for the considerable future, I hadn't really paid attention to the discussions on 360 guitar quality, and I wasn't aware that there seems to be at least some consensus that GH3's is better.

Scoop, it will be well worth the wait!

Web, I think I'll be sticking with my wireless guitar for now, I haven't had much time lately to play the game so I am thinking of selling the GH 2 guitar if you're interested.

I think the GH II guitar for the 360 only sucks if you played the PS2 guitar. I never had any problems with it. But the GH III guitar is the way to go if only for the wireless part.

I like my GH2-360 Explorer and have not had ANY problems with it, A bonus is that it works plugged into my PC for GH3/PC. I was going to sell it until I found that out. I have tried the GH3 Les Paul at several kiosks and it feels smaller, but it plays a little easier, that is the buttons are slightly easier to press. Not a bif difference IMO. I feel like the Explorer is a pretty solid plastic axe.

Don't get me wrong...it's not like the GH2 Explorer controller doesn't work. It serves its purpose but I personally had many issues with it (not technical, just ergonomic).

For one, The neck is WAY too thin and narrow for me. The buttons are too small. The body is awkward. The placement of the guide button is horrendous.

I had GH2 on PS2 and then got it for 360 and was never able to finish the career on Expert for the 360 with the Explorer controller which I did without too much trouble on the PS2 and I completely blame the controller.

To put on bow on this in time for Christmas...

I ended up picking up GH3 with the wireless Les Paul, so now I have my full band in time for Christmas, and Nanny will be able to lay down a funky groove.

Thanks everyone for your advice and recommendations, and 10s, your offer. I'm good to go.

I tyrying to decide if I should pickup GHII bundle now or wait until I can find a GHIII bundle. I can see myself playing both versions of the game but wonder if I should wait so I can get the GHIII guitar. Any advice?
