Much like Zeppo with SR, I wll continue playing TF until the last 360 sputters out with the ring-of-death :)

It's just too much fun.
I'm sort of with Rob here but this is a game that I'm finding it tough to play with people who just seem to have no clue what they are doing. More than any other shooter you can really tear it up with 2-3 people working with each other but most times nobody either listens or cares about working as a team. When I get into a game with the DSP'ers it's a different story and the game rocks but randoms is just killing me.

Haven't had a chance yet. Too much FIFA and TF lately. It's on my to-do list right next to finishing BioShock :)

Let's be honest you aren't getting these done. You know you'll start then get an invite from someone on XBL and that's the end of that. :D

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the great impressions of this game...this thread plus the GOTY thread has inspired me to pick up this game over lunch. I don't really play many shooters, but Portal has got me really excited and I've always thought that if I did ever get into a hardcore shooter, it would be something like Half Life.

With this in mind, I'm not planning on getting into the multiplayer at all (unless there is still an active group of guys here who are still into it). I'm wondering then if the single player (besides Portal) is really special. I know it will be very good, but I really want an amazing first person experience. Would Bioshock be the better choice for that? I guess the issue for me is that besides Portal (which I could rent theoretically) and Multiplayer, is this still a AAA game?

My nephew and I play TF 2 and we love it.

It is the perfect mix of run and gun plus a good amount of team strategy.

I like how "bunny hopping" is limited and each class has its strengths and weaknesses.

Unfortunatley, he is on the East Coast until early January, so we wont be playing it on Live until he returns back home.

Personally, I think HL2 is an outstanding single-player experience. It may be three years old, but for me that doesn't matter; it's plenty good enough that it holds up very well. I haven't started Ep. 1 yet, which has pretty lackluster reviews, but Ep. 2 is supposed to be top notch.

Comparing it to Bioshock, I would say they are both very good at telling their story, but do so with very different styles. Bioshock is as good as it gets when it comes to atmosphere. HL2 has much better shooter mechanics, but Bioshock has all the fancy plasmids. I think they both would fit the bill as 'amazing first person experience,' and I couldn't really recommend one over the other, to be honest. I say, play them both! They're both worthwhile and different enough from each other, and really from everything else out there, that you don't want to miss out on either of them!

Thanks Zeppo...

I was considering just playing Ep. 2 and Portal - which would give me a good 12 hours or so of gaming. However, I'm sure the storyline would be much more powerful if I simply start from the beginning (HL2) - It sounds great, and I'm sure I can look past the somewhat dated visuals...from what it sounds like, the textures/lighting isn't so much important as is the overall style and organic feel of the environments.

Any chance that we can get a DSP Team Fortress game in the near future? The play dried up as soon as COD4 came out but I still think the game is a lot of fun.

I have it and would love to play online. My 360 was in the chop shop when this came out and I never got a chance to play online before it died out.

I'd probably be like playing a random because I have no clue as I've never played it. School me up so I can play this more regularly.

Guys...we don't need a bunch to make one game....just 4-6 of us to team up against some randoms would be cool.

The randoms have been fine in this game because it is hard to cheese, plus it is so arcade in nature to begin with.

Let's set up a game time.

Hey guys...

Just playing through Portal for the first time (one of my favourite gaming experiences ever!) and am really stuck at Chapter 18.

I said to myself last night that I would push on and figure it out on my own, but hours later and I still couldn't pin down what I was supposed to do. So I come to you for help - I'm not proud but I have to finish this game, as I know everyone raves about the ending/song, etc...lol

So you guys know the room? There are a bunch of turrets on platforms (I've shot them down). Now it seems like I have to press a button at the other end of the room, but how the heck do I get there? I'm thinking that I'm supposed to jump off the side and use momentum to shoot me straight into that "nook", but can't seem to pull it off. On the right track?

I understand if nobody remembers this quite clearly, but had to ask!

If I recall correctly, when you press a button it causes a piece of the wall to come out and angle slightly upwards. You need to put a portal on the piece when it is angled, then jump of a ledge into a portal on the floor. That way you will you have a ton of momentum and will be shot out of the angled piece like a human cannon in the circus, getting you to where you need to be.

Thanks! I guess my mistake was going into the room and letting that piece of the wall close behind me. No way of going back I don't think. Makes sense now...

No, I am pretty sure there is a switch to activate that piece in the big room. I think maybe it was on the far side of the room? Maybe there is another step needed if you haven't found that switch yet.

Yeah, I didn't think they would trap you like that. Just gotta remember to start playing at a decent hour so last night doesn't happen all over again.

Never would have thought of that...basically the best you can get in place of hiring a developer from Valve to visit my house.

I managed to seek advice from a fellow gamer at work - I think I still haven't flicked a switch (seems tricky to do) on the left side of the room.

Yeah, watching a video of what to do in a game can be so much easier than scanning thru a wall o' text at GameFAQs.

Recieved my copy of Orange Box (x360) from Amazon on friday.

The original HL is still my favorite game of all time, but I never got around playing HL 2 and the episodes.

Really enjoying HL 2 at the moment, such a great game.

Play Portal! Also Ep2 is way better than Ep1.
