The Mitchell Report

Post by Sully »

Two names on the list have been confirmed by ESPN this morning, and they are Roger Clemens and Andy Pettitte.

I deleted the rumored "leaked" list I posted since there's some sites questioning its validity. Mitchell's PC is at 2pm EST today.

Heh...no Braves at the time.

Pujols is by far the most disappointing on the list.

If it holds true, it's definitely the biggest surprise. We'll find out soon enough.

This report will have zero impact on the game other than affecting future Hall of Fame balloting. The game and its fans will shrug it off within weeks.

By January, this report will be forgotten, and all people will care about is circling the date in February when pitchers and catchers report to spring training.

The entire Mitchell Report is just a Pontius Pilate-style hand washing of this inconvenient drug affair by Bud Selig, who turned a blind eye in the 90s and let the drug problem mushroom.

It's much ado about something, a something that means nothing to people in baseball and its fans.

Take care,
PK

If Sully's posted list holds as true, a major theme there is guys who have had recurring injury problems or have just plain broken down. No surprise that, I guess.

The only outcome out of this report will be the HOF eligibility. At this point people are interested in seeing more who's in that list that what the Sport will do to turn things around. Somewhere out there, Dick Pound is having a laugh.

Yep. 'Roids ravage connective tissue because that tissue is accustomed to supporting muscle mass of a certain size. When that muscle mass mushrooms, the connective tissue doesn't adapt quickly enough and breaks down.

No surprise that three of the highest-profile admitted 'roid users -- Canseco, Giambi and Caminiti -- suffered numerous connective tissue injuries.

I dunno, I tend to think any of the accomplishments by anyone on the list will forever be tainted regardless of the evidence provided or action taken - at least they will never be viewed the same by fans. At a minimum life will become a living hell for them when they travel, a la Bonds. That's not exactly "nothing."

True, DB.

WNBC is reporting some of the names that will show up in the Mitchell Report:

Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte, Jeff Bagwell, Barry Bonds, Johnny Damon, Juan Gonzalez, Eric Gagne, Nomar Garciaparra, Jason Giambi, Mark Prior, Albert Pujols, John Rocker, Pudge Rodriguez, Sammy Sosa, Gary Sheffield, Miguel Tejada, Jason Varitek and Kerry Wood.

Kerry Wood? How can that be? He has suffered no connective tissue problems in his arm since he broke into the majors? He's the modern-day Nolan Ryan, a real iron man!

Take care,
PK

Do you really think these guys give three sh*ts what the fans think of them? They betrayed the integrity of the game and the trust of the fans the moment the first needle pricked their ass with the juice.

Their annual salaries still will have eight digits -- that's all they care about. So yes, it's "nothing" in the grand scheme of things.

This will not be a fun offseason. Players will be breaking out every excuse in the book; labor agreement violations, civil rights violations, bias, racism, it was prescribed, I thought it was flaxseed oil, it's a side effect from my hair loss treatment, somebody must've spiked my kool-aid....

Clemens? Gagne? Bagwell? Pudge? Sosa? Knock me over with a feather.

Some are a little more surprising, like Damon or Prior.

I doubt it. Like Kevin Kernan just said on ESPN, Jose Guillen received a 15 game suspension for using a banned substance, and a couple days later receives a $36 million dollar contract from the Royals.

MLB doesn't care.

What is sad to me is that this news will drop the feel-good stories about Mike Vick and Bobby Petrino from the front pages.

The biggest impact this report will have on the game is to highlight A-Rod's unbelievable accomplishments if he's not on the list.

It seems many of A-Rod's peers the last 10 years have produced big numbers while on the juice. If A-Rod put up his incredible numbers with just his God-given ability and hard work, that makes his performance even more remarkable.

But who knows? Maybe he will end up on the list. We'll see at 2 p.m.

Take care,

Pettitte surprises me. It's not like he's an overpowering physical specimen.

Call me cynical PK, but if A-Rod's name is on the list, A-Rod's name will not be on the list, if you know what I mean.

Baseball needs him as the 'clean hope' to erase Bond's tainted record from the books.

I'm not apologizing for MLB, but you have to be a moron if you don't think the NFL and NBA doesn't have this same exact problem!
