Saturday Night Speedway Anyone???
I just picked this game up on my way home from work. I'm kinda surprised to see that there has been no mention of it here at all. Not even by PK!!
I will get back with some impressions after a put a little time into it this evening.

I've been waiting for it to come out. I heard it was pushed back till the 15th. When I picked up MVP that's what they told me. Guess I'm going to have to stop by the store later today. Let me know how it is if you get a chance. I'm eagerly anticipating it. PK isn't because he doesn't have a PS2 anymore.
I've got the PC demo, which is actually the full version of the game, sans the license to activate it fully after the 1 hour demo trial is over. It runs pretty slick, but I'm not sure how I feel about the handling of the cars. Something doesn't feel quite right, and I've yet to succeed in making any adjustments to the setup that helps. I'm waiting to see if anyone comes up with some setups that are manageable before my demo period expires. Right now I'm pretty frustrated with it.

Here is a brief review on what I have discovered so far. Didn't get to put as much time into as I had hoped because I spent all evening at a carnival with the wife and little one.
1) Pretty much a rehash of WoO(same tracks with a couple extra fantasy
tracks tossed in).
2) Three car classes definetely handle differently(Late models are
awesome.....you can really tell the effects the independant suspension
has on dry slick tracks. They can out handle the Outlaw sprints on
that track condition and you can run pretty much any line you desire.
The midgets get rear wheel hop like mad on rough surfaces.....very
cool).
3) Sound is a bit lacking. Doesn't seem to be as good as WoO.
4) Graphics pretty much on par with WoO(track and surroundings may be
a little bit cleaner).
5) Control and car/driving physics same as WoO.
6) The sprint class cars are midgets which have a high and low gear as do
the late models. Stocks(Camaros) have a 4 speed trans. All classes
have the option of using an automatic trans.
7) There is an option for turning off multi-player catch-up/rubberband
effect. Also a setting for how intense you want the controller
viberation.
In short, if you liked WoO, go pick this one up. Career looks to be pretty
deep from the instruction manual. Didn't get to mess with setups or multi-player, but I will tomorrow. I will post more tomorrow on these topics. Anything else you want me to check out and comment on, let me know.

I grabbed it on PC. It feels a lot like Dirt Track Racing 2 in the WoO engine (which I don't mind). Online had nobody in it yet...ran across a few guys late last night as I was running some online midget tests.
Definitely another fun one in my library, simply because I love the Ratbag games. It's "more of the same", but feels just fresh enough to make another run through career mode.
The midget engine sounds are a hoot!

I actually ran an online "race team" for a while with DTRSC...a little over a year. I'm big into the Ratbag games, if the online code is up to snuff.
Crappy connections tend to freak their code out, but that was years ago...and some people were still on 56k. With most of us on cable for XBL nowadays, it remains to be seen what it's like...it was pretty solid last night.

The way we used to do it was to have a session that was nothing but qualifying.
1 or 2 guys run laps (at about half-lap intervals so they don't hold each other up), and the others take turns. Then we'd divide the field up into Heats 1 and 2. Top X finishers from each heat make the A main, and then the B main from the rest gets run, with the final spots being filled from the top finishers in the B.
It worked pretty well, but you need a chatroom or something to coordinate it. This was a weekly series that we ran...not back to back to back racing on a night or something. We'd prepare and set our cars up that week, then run the track on one night like a regular weekly series.
