The #2 reason why I still own a PS3.

I loved this line:

"Crowd Interaction – With the power of the PS3, the MLB franchise is set introduce subtle elements of baseball that, quite simply, couldn’t be done on another platform."

I'm pretty sure you mean another platform besides the PC and 360. But hey I understand the shill.

Atmosphere is one of the best parts of the Show can't wait to get this one.

"Specifically, from a graphical standpoint, our primary focus this year was to incorporate a dramatic improvement to our environment lighting, player lighting, and textures in general. The MLB franchise is already considered by most as the most authentic baseball simulation available, but this year, we are aiming for an even more lifelike representation and with the addition of depth of field, improved environment lighting, new cloth techniques and enhanced facial textures, we are approaching photo realism. When comparing MLB 07 THE SHOW to MLB 08 THE SHOW, you will be extremely impressed with the overall graphical improvements. We’re very proud of our achievements in this area (check out the screens embedded in this post)."

Suffice to say, day one purchase. Heck, I might even go as far to take a half day's vacation when this game releases. I am that excited about this release!

Danimal,

I'm pretty sure the 360 or a PC would be able to do the following, but I'm betting on The Show doing it better and more realistically.

"Gamers will see a vast array of new ambient elements including: fans coming, going and reaching for foul balls, vendors, 7th inning stretch, the wave, standing ovations, dynamic crown actions like hanging K’s, and much, much more. These new subtleties make MLB 08 THE SHOW truly feel like a day at the ballpark."

Wow. Just don't screw up the core gameplay in the midst of all this new stuff!

Exactly. I'd like to see them eliminate the game time decisions though.

Also, is it too much to ask for in-game saves?

I did think of one negative while we await this anticipated title. The Cards are going to stink next season! Ahh well, the game will be that much more of a challenge.

If you are referring to "The Show" versus another title, I am inclined to agree with you. If you are referring to a PS3 doing it better and more realistically than a PC/360, I am not inclined to agree with you....

lol...I'm with ya there, Dan. Looks like it's gonna be a loong season for the Redbirds, unfortunately. Hopefully my created player will be enough to make them competitive! :D

Very promising indeed. Just add the damn in-game save (hey they have it for the PSP) and spring time couldn't be farther.

Killer feature for me would be something like Team Online mode.

Online leagues is cool but I thought online on MLB 07 was busted anyways.

A developer on the MLB2k8 said both PS3 and X360 versions will run at 60 fps.

The only hope for the 360 owners out this is if Ben Brinkman can turn around MLB 2k8.

I'm not debating that the Show has the best atmosphere of any sports game I know it does, I just found the typical PR / Shill Sony crap to be funny.

I'm feelin you JRod. MLB 2K7 is/was a substantial turn around in terms of quality on the 360 so I'm hoping that 2K8 continues the trend. The issue I have with the show is that gameplay wise its a great game but they really need to update the graphics (which it sounds like they are doing next year) for the PS3. All of those features look spectacular although there aren't too many brand spanking new things in there. Crowd reaction could be great if they really are reacting to things like foul balls, or cheering at the appropriate times. Individual umpire personalities is cool but nothing new, let's see some individual umpire animations! If depth of field and lighting improvements allow the player to be able to see the ball a bit better maybe people will stop whining about you throwing them balls. Hey, if you're gonna swing at everything I throw then I'm now throwing them over the plate!

Can't wait to play all the baseball titles next year:)

There's no doubt in my mind that the visuals will be different in 08.

They have DEFINITELY ramped up the visuals this year. Glad my neighbor has a ps3. :)

I'm looking forward to MLB 2k8 as well. Seeing MLB 2k8 at 60fps will really enhance the game as I've heard The Show was buttery smooth last year.

Any word if they will be using player models that aren't all the same height? It's a nitpick, I know, but watching Richie Sexson look eye-to-eye with Yuniesky Betancourt in post game celebrations got kind of old :)

Otherwise, the screens look good, and all the new features sound promising.

2K8 running @ 60fps will make an immediate difference in terms of the gameplay. That along with eliminating the fielding momentum will definitely enhance the enjoyment of the game. There are a couple other nit picking issues I have with the game, but I can see 2K8 making huge strides.

Based upon that link, I'd have to say that SCEA San Diego are giving the BoSox a lot of love so far, but that A-Rod shot looks very little like him. And WTF is up with the number on the front of the pinstripes  Comments, among the links above, confirm that the number was in a test build and already corrected, but you won't endear Yankee fans with a pic like that

Seriously though, now that I have a PS3, it's nice to have options in MLB games. I, too, am interested in whether 2K8 can continue to improve but I'll give the early nod to 08.

I would certainly hope that 2008 looks a lot better than 2007, since 2007 wasn't much more than a high-rez PS2 game.
