OT:My son has the biggest fight of his young career Saturday

Post by Jackdog »

This tournament is an advancing round to qualify for the 2008 Olympics. Some of the best boxers in the midwest will be lacing up the gloves and throwin’ leather all night long.

My son Dominic is fighting for a chance to earn a spot on the Jr Olympic Boxing Team as well as the Michigan State Title in his class. He is fighting a kid that is 15. Dom is 12. Dom has come along so fast in the sport it's scary. I am about to puke. My stomach is flipping inside out and he is as cool as a cucumber.

Wish him well boys. I will post pictures and any articles .

Best of luck to Dom, Jack-diggity. I want to see him in a PPV fight from the MGM Grand some day and say, "I knew The Dominator when he was a little sprout ..."

Post pics, please!

Take care,

Jack,

Please tell Dom that I am pulling for him in his fight this weekend. I can be like PK and say "I knew him way back when".. when he's a champ too.

good luck bro. But , wow, they're letting kids under 18 into casino's these days? I guess nothing stands in the way of these casino owners when it comes to money.

Thanks man. Thank all of you for your cyber support. The fights tonight were great.

I will post pics Sunday morning. We want to watch Hatton win.

PS. The gaming rooms are nowhere near the auditorium where the fights are taking place. If your not over 18 you are not allowed into the gaming area.

Bad news. The kid Dom was supposed to fight tonight didn't make weight this morning at the weigh-in. He was 6 lbs over. If he would have been 2lbs over we would have wavied it and the fight would go on. 6lbs is a bit much considering the kid is 3 years older and stands 5'8 and Dom 5'4. We figured by fight time he would have a 10 to 15 lb advantage. He has a longer reach as well. Dom would have had to fight him on the inside and the weight would have made that a daunting task.

Dom is going to fight in the Silver Gloves in a two weeks. He will get another crack at this kid in Detroit at the end of next month for the state title and a spot on the Jr Olympic Team. He cannot earn a spot on the team because of a weight disqualification. The young man he is fighting for that spot has two more chance to make weight then another fighter will be allowed to move into his spot.

The spot on the team has to be earned in the ring. Dom told a local reporter this morning that was great. He said he was glad the spot wasn't given to him,he wants to earn it. He wished the kid luck on making weight. He said he looks forward to fighting in Detroit and he hopes to win the title for his team and Traverse City. That made me smile. He's a very good kid.

Thanks again for all the support. I think we will put a DSP patch on his trunks.

I will post pics of his next fight.

He missed cutting weight by 6 pounds? Did he even try? Sounds like he's trying to dodge getting his ass kicked by Dom.

You know what's funny Todd? This kid has been up here since Thursday. His coach knew what he had to do. They had unlimited access to our gym and we didn't see them there once. I really believe once they got up here and saw the support my son gets from this town, they bailed on the weight loss and decided to take it back to his hometown of Detroit.

Little do they know, that's our hometown as well. Dom loves fighting there.
We had well over 100 family members at his last fight in Motown. This will work out better for my family. We have had so much snow up here a lot of them didn't come up for this fight. This is going to work out just fine.

Thanks again for all the DSP support!!!!!!!!!!!!
