btmmayor wrote:Did you do that on hardened difficulty PK? I just don't see how there is a way to get past that level playing straight up on anything higher than the normal difficulty level. Like Slumber I made the mistake of putting the game on hardened. Anything above normal difficulty really amplifies the flaws in this game. On hardened the ferris wheel and barn stages are just an amazingly frustrating experience. I also wish there was a way to change the difficulty level on the fly.
Nope, normal. I hoped maybe the same techniques used on Normal might work on Difficult.

Take care,

Yeah, I do get that feeling sometimes, but going in I knew it was going to be a highly scripted Disney ride of a war game... but it's still transcendent in parts. I do feel my enthusiasm waning though. As clans have flourished and more and more people top out their rank, online has graduated from mere meat grinder to full-on Upton Sinclair slaughterhouse nightmare.

I'm just not having that problem enough to warrant worry. Every once in awhile, we get into a game that is hopeless from the outset, but it's only happened a couple of times.

And COD has always been scripted...doesn't mean it isn't fun. You can't get that 'balls to the wall' feel with an open ended game. I mean, movies are scripted, and I can watch quite a few of 'em many times over...

I'm now up to the Ferris Wheel stage on Veteran and I'm ready to call it quits. I'm really glad I played the game through on Normal first because I really enjoyed it - the set pieces in this game are fantastic and the atmosphere is great. Unfortunately, the infinite respawn is just ruining the fun for me, I can take an ass whooping (the game up till this point on Veteran has been just that) but this is ridiculous.

The TV-station on Charlie Don't Surf is a perfect example of what I mentioned before - the first 10 times (probably more) I tried it on Veteran I stayed behind cover, took great precautions to pop up and stategically take out the bad guys and they just kept coming, and coming and coming. I'd be fighting for 10 minutes and they just kept coming. How did I pass the level? I ran to the opposite end of the news room and then suddenly they stopped respawning - took about 2 minutes to finish. Ditto for the Second Horseman level (when you go from house to house in the village) - you can stand at a distance, call in the chopper and pick off guys with the Dragunov till the cows come how and the bad guys keep respawning inside each house. It's only when you run up to it do they stop appearing.

I totally agree! And I knew that going in. It's just that in this case, the projector's stuck and I can't advance the film. It's good to know I can restart the mission on Normal, I'll probably do that... just want to see the story through to the end. I picked Hardened since in COD2 it was sort of the sweet spot for difficulty.

Yeah, I'm glad I played the campaign on normal, too. It's the respawn factor that makes me think that even though I enjoyed COD4's single player more than Halo 3, that Halo's is ultimately better designed (and certainly has more staying power). COD4 does a great job of simulating the feel of combat, but it ultimately doesn't reward you for using appropriate tactics, whereas in Halo, the battles are smaller, but the tactical payoff is much greater (at least until the Flood show up).

Finally got past the ferris wheel on Hardened by hiding out behind an apartment building until the copter showed up, then carrying what's-his-face around the ferris wheel for some added cover. Really hoped I was closer to the end, though. Ended up dropping it back in the mail today. Just too many bullets, unclear objectives (do you want me to kill everyone or hoof it somewhere in order to trigger the checkpoint?) and Condoleeza Rice quotes for me right now, and the fun all but disappeared. Great game and all, but Mario Galaxy is more my speed right now and that's... okay.

I agreed that the infinite (or so it seems) spawns is annoying on Hardened/Vet, but it forces me to be more cautious and find another way through the chaos. For example, in that TV room level, instead of going straight when you enter the room toward those 3 connected small rooms, I make a right immediately and run toward one of the 2 dead-end rooms and then slowly make my way toward the egress point. Worked out much better that way.

The last level, Ultimatum, is hell though on Vet. You basically have to be a telepath (i.e. play the level a bunch of times) to know the exact location of the enemy and then inch your aim pixel by pixel and shoot before they do.

That's why I care more about the experience than the difficulty, or the length. I just want to enjoy myself. And I did, very much so. I will play this again at some point in the future, but I may very well not bump up the difficulty.

I was thinking the exact same thing last night. I had such a good time with this game in single player on the PC and want to do it again in a few months, after I finish my Oilers' season in NHL 08, play Kane & Lynch (cool game) and Company of Heroes (another cool game).

Take care,
PK

I think this game has set a new standard for interactive storytelling. It's not groundbreaking as a game, but the combination of the intense action, immersive atmosphere, and a creative storyline that pulls no punches has me hooked.

Finished the game on Hardened last night. I think it's a great interactive movie, like the first two CoD movies. The story is thrilling and the action is intense. The endless respawns were annoying, I will admit, but that was the only thing about the game I didn't like.

I got through the Ferris Wheel by doing what I call the chickenshit cheat. I think I could have beaten it if I used my C4 and Claymores better, but I didn't figure that out until I reached the checkpoint after the first wave hits. I didn't feel like starting the level over so I used a tip I read at GameFAQs. That was the only part I got uber-frustrated with, because I felt the level of challenge was just too damn high and unrealistic.

Overall, it's definitely a terrific game and one of the best on the 360.

Which was/is? Please share cause I gave up on veteran and would like to go back to finish it without wanting to chuck the controller.

OI, OI! Don't post it here, please, for those who want to try and slog it out (and I don't blame you if you don't). Please do it through PM's or check GameFAQ's.

Thanks,
PK

Are you guys talking about the All Ghillied Up level? I'm on that right now and I can't pass it to save my life. Cool level but god damn is it a son of a b*tch. I'd appreciate any pm's that will get me past that level.
