Another Dead X360
Moderators: Bill_Abner, ScoopBrady

Well I had a couple of freeze ups in the dashboard tonight but was able to setup a couple of demos to download and then started up Rock Band and got a freeze up and now after restarting I am only getting the red ring of death. Looks like I'll be picking up an Elite this weekend and selling this one when it comes back from service.
An hour of playing CoD4 and after a deathmatch online I see a bunch of Matrix like letters flowing on my screen. Reboot the 360 and I see the rings of death. Turn the machine back in 15 minutes and the game loads again but I am too afraid to see the red rings again so I switch it off. Is my machine nearly done?

You can get your xbox fixed for no cost. I don't know how long it takes but I'm xbox-less right now. My other 360 is at the factory. My second just bit the dust. I'm going to keep it for now because its just a disc drive error. And if sensible soccer comes out, I can play that.10spro wrote:An hour of playing CoD4 and after a deathmatch online I see a bunch of Matrix like letters flowing on my screen. Good thing I don't have the urge to play Rock Band. Although I wanted to get in some time with CH.
But ya if you see red rings you are toast.

I cleared the cache on mine and seems to be running fine. I still have the coffin sitting there waiting for absolute death but so far so good. It just sucks because if it does decide to die i will out of the one year warranty in about a month. I'm sure i can always induce some red light so it covered for the 3 years, if it lives longer then expected.
Not it might be a problem with Halo. But if you have problems with 1 or 2 other games it could signal some issues with your dvd drive. That's how mine started, a few games would have issues but would eventually load. Then it got worse.Zlax45 wrote:All my games are working fine besides Halo 3...I put that game in and it doesn't load up and tells me to put in an Xbox 360 disc to play a game...Is my 360 getting close to bricking?

I am going to bring back Halo 3 tomorrow and get a new copy. I don't have any other issues with other games besides a few Dirty Disc errors with EA Sports games right when they come out but it eventually stops.JRod wrote:Not it might be a problem with Halo. I'm so resiliant I own 2sportdan30 wrote:Leebo33 wrote:After weeks of acting up #3 is now dead. R.I.P.You guys sure are resiliant!

I'm not upset now that the warranty is 3 years and they returned the money that I spent on repairs. However, it is pretty pitiful and if the next next gen systems are released at the same time it could factor in my decision as to which I buy first.

I used to think that, but the games I'm most interested in are on the "inferior" console (Unchartered, Ratchet and Clank, MLB, etc.)Danimal wrote:You have to be if you want to play the best games.sportdan30 wrote:Leebo33 wrote:After weeks of acting up #3 is now dead. But I hear ya. The 360 overall does have the better games.

Yes Rachet and Clank is awesome as is the Show, haven't opened my Uncharted. But for those 3 games there are at least 10 more for the 360 that I want to play too. Of course their is a slew of upcoming PS3 games in the future I must own as wellsportdan30 wrote:I used to think that, but the games I'm most interested in are on the "inferior" console (Unchartered, Ratchet and Clank, MLB, etc.)Danimal wrote:You have to be if you want to play the best games.sportdan30 wrote:You guys sure are resiliant!

As I said before I am a gamer not a console collector, that means I play the games I want regardless of the system. It also means it can get costly.

My response to your statement was the truth not a smarmy comment, I didn't want to miss out on Orange Box, Mass Effect, Bioshock etc. Luckily for me my 360 has held strong since the original replacement and my Elite has never had an issue. Of course i just put the jinx on that.

And I hope you didn't think I was being smart with my last comment. I truly do believe that overall, the 360 has more quality games. It just so happens within the past month or so, there are two worthy PS3 titles that are a blast to play, with hopefully more on the horizon.
While before as a PS3 owner I was justifying the system soley based on one game (MLB) and the blu-ray player, there are a couple very good exclusive titles now.
And as you can see from another thread, I fully recommended the 360 to Hrudey based on his wants and needs. It all depends on what appeals most to you.
Regarding the defective 360s, as long as you have Best Buy product replacement plan, it really isn't a big deal how many 360s go belly up. I just would be upset if I had to ship it back and wait for the repaired console. I do think we'll probably see fewer and fewer "dead 360" posts because MS finally seems to be getting a good handle on the newer units.

My 360 only lasted a month and a few weeks from the repair center. That's great.
It seems that MS has done something with the red rings. They don't show even though it's the same problem I had with my 1st and 2nd 360s. What gives?

I've read that all the newer 360 longer display the RRoD. Instead they now display a new sequence of lights. I guess this is Microsoft's way of getting out of the RRoD warranty.JRod wrote:My 360 only lasted a month and a few weeks from the repair center. That's great.

Even though you should still be covered JRod.
