Way to launch the first salvo, Timmy! Keep it up, KU and Mizzou fans. Drop the gloves and go!

Take care,

I was looking at the KU schedule earlier.. WOW.. It looks like a bunch of teams Georgia Southern or Wofford would play... Then I looked it up and I think only 18 teams out of 119 have played an easier schedule.

Pk, trust me there is a great hatred between the two schools and its fan bases. Just as an example, check out tigerboard.com sometime. If the guys who post on there aren't the biggest bunch of ignorant ASSH*LES in the country, I don't know who is.

Mizzou fans, tell me there is a more intelligent Tiger message board than that crap?

Cards/Cubs is one of the best rivalries in all of sports, and there isn't a big hatred there like you have with Yanks/Sox.

I don't agree that it's not a good rivalry if you don't hate the other team and their fans.

However, as Dan mentioned, the KU/MU rivalry is not really that friendly (like Cards/Cubs)... there just isn't hate here between the fanbases and I think there's more mutual respect at DSP.

bdunn - yes, KU's schedule has been full of cupcakes, but if they actually beat Mizzou and then Oklahoma, they'll be well deserving of their #2 ranking at that point. Right now, they're a paper #2 and haven't really earned it (other than putting up huge offensive numbers against mostly weak teams), but they'll have to earn their way into the BCS championship.

Mrs. Brando is a Mizzou alum and I went to graduate school there, and there is definitely a very heated rivalry. However, it has usually played out on the hardwood since both football programs have been so terrible over the years. I'm sure we'll see pretty amazing atmosphere between the two fan bases at this week's game. The scoreboard is probably going to look like a pinball machine as I don't think either team's defense can stop the other's offense. KU has a better running game but I think Mizzou pulls it out thanks to Daniel, Maclin, and Rucker having big games.

The most exciting college football season ever will lead to one of the biggest jokes of a national championship game...while the calls for a playoff grow even louder.

No way would I have predicted LSU to lose to Arkansas, especially at home but damn, they've been playing teams close all year. Of all the teams vying for the NC, they were the least deserving in my opinion.

And now they are out!

Now, that's a ridiculous statement. Least deserving because they play in the toughest conference in the country? And before I hear any of the elitist, head-in-the-sand commentary about it, there were at last check 10-count 'em-10 SEC schools in bowl bids right now. Darren McFadden is a Heisman front runner, Jones is every bit as good as he is, the SEC is always tough and unpredictable, and Arkansas' win wasn't a fluke...

...but neither was LSU's ranking.

Now I'll give it to an individual team from other conferences (USC, OSU, etc.), but (and here's the money shot..getting the kevlar vest and flame retardent suit on right now) they don't have nearly the conference difficulty that the SEC does. Ranked, unranked...all that s*** doesn't matter, has never mattered, because rankings are more about opinion than they are about talent and ability.

The SEC is it's own worst enemy; it's too good for its' own good. And the BCS system is incalculably and irretrievably broken. Without a playoff, no team is allowed a bad day, except in those cases where the team that gets the silver spoon put in its' mouth (preseason #1 ranking) happens to win out, struggle or no struggle, style or no style.

I'm no LSU fan, but to count them as the least deserving of NC status is patently absurd.

LSU least deserving? By what measure?

Look at the Sagarin strength of schedule ratings of LSU, Kansas, W. Va. and Missouri, the top four in the BCS:

LSU -- 73.63 (#27)
Kansas -- 64.03 (#101)
W. Va. -- 72.18 (#42)
Missouri -- 71.45 (#47)

LSU has the toughest schedule of the top four. Kansas has the easiest, by a mile. The two Big 12 teams have the softest schedules among the top four.

And if you don't believe in Sagarin's ratings, then don't look at the ratings at Sportsline or TeamRankings.com. They flatter Kansas even less.

Take care,
PK

The SEC is friggin overated...again! Like every year.

Heck, Alabama lost to Louisiana Monroe a week after almost beating LSU.

They are above average teams that hide behind each other...and when it comes to beating someone good from another conference, (and no the Big Ten doesn't count)...they can't do it.

Weak weak weak weak weak.

Most people want a playoff system, but it is what it is.

The MU-KU game is going to stress me out... but I'm glad we are in this position.

Thank you Arkansas!

True, but that will change by tomorrow when both of them play each other and have a top 5 BCS team in their schedule.... and then the winner's strength of schedule will get even better when they play in the Big 12 championship game.

Ignorant. Tell me about Ohio State-Florida. Tell me about Alabama-Miami circa 1992. Tell me about overrated when Oklahoma has their testicles handed to them a couple of years ago because they had no business in the NC game.

You put these teams in a playoff system, and I damn near guarantee you that you'll talk out of the other side of your mouth on any given year. I defy any team in the association to play the SEC slate during the year and run the table. It can't be done most years, and in the event an SEC team manages to do so, it will take on all comers. Every damn year I have to hear this pathetic crap from some 'holier than thou' armchair analyst, be it here or on CBS, as if the SEC never does anything but 'fool' the BCS by 'hiding behind each other', whatever the hell that means. At the least, we need a system akin to MLB where teams from different conferences, especially the 'powerhouses', must play each other as a matter of course.

Then all this silly armchair talk will cease, especially all this BS about the SEC. I think it's more envy than anything.

Ummm, a team can play 4 cupcakes and then go 2-6 in conference and wind up in a bowl.

For feck sakes, my Memphis Tigers are going bowling after losing to Ole Miss, MTSU, and Arkansas STate.

Tell me who the SEC has played outside of conference that has been worth a damn this year?....Tennessee loses to Cal...South Florida beats Auburn....A mediocre Florida State beats Alabama.

The only so called feather was a win against an overated Virginia Tech team....that's it...nada.....zilch.

Their out of conference schedule sucks beyond comparison.

Envy....yes I agree about that...it is criminal in my mind that instuitutions like the SEC get all the money while my alma mater...SDSU(yeah I know they have sucked for 8+ years) struggles financially enough to field a team because the Mountain West isn't deemed good enough to be in the BCS...which is complete and utter garbage.

Oh well..the debate will go on...but almost everyone in the media will continue to kiss the SEC's ass.

Exactly.

The notion that the SEC is so far superior to every conference was true at one time, but that's no longer the case. I think they are the deepest conference, but the difference between them and the rest of the pack is pretty small this year.

4 or 5 years ago, Teal you'd have a case, but things have changed.

We'll never know until the day comes when it can be settled on the field, where it deserves to be. Until then, we'll keep the current political system in play, which is all it is, anyway. Polls and opinions, polls and opinions...it's one great big f***in' joke...

Envy of what? USC has been kicking SEC teams upside down for the better part of a decade, including your squad.
