What? You mean that big a$$ head and the gigantic arms that he developed in his post-adolescent years was due to steroid use?

Like Bonds' attorney, I'm curious to see what new evidence the government has. Bonds told the grand jury he took what is now known to be illegal steroids, but claimed that at the time he didn't know what they were and just took what he was told to. Obviously it seems a ludicrous statement, but I wonder how the government is going to prove Bonds knew what he was taking, as so far all the other people involved are protecting Bonds.

A federal judge ordered Greg Anderson to be released from prison. The timing of that is interesting. Perhaps the feds convinced him to spill the beans. Guess Barry wasn't going to take care of him after all. ....Allegedly

Wonder if Bonds will get a plea bargain if he gives up other players?

Just like in the Vick case, these indictments dont come down unless the feds have a solid case against you with overwhelming evidence.

In any event, Bond's career is probably over. Wonder if they will erase the HR record from the books? Is that even possible?

Highly unlikely. Technically, people can test pos & still set records, win awards, titles, etc.. This is like one big bad failed drug test w/ prison time (if any). Expect a plea, 6 months in "jail" & then a long suspension that forces bonds into retirement.

It is a sad day for baseball. Baseball is turning into legal briefs, pee tests, bidding wars, & controversy.

The bad thing for baseball is Bonds is not the only one currently using roids. Some are even alleging that A-Rod might be a cheater as well. Steroids have been around a long time maybe as far back as the 70's which makes me wonder about Mr. October who started out as a skinny kid and bulked up later in his career with the Yankees.

The only thing that came out of this indictment is that for once Bonds has finally been publicly called a cheater.

Interesting that the government did not have a problem when tobacco company executives appeared before a committee of the House of Representatives and testified under oath that they did not believe that nicotine is addictive. The statute of limitation ran out on them.

It will be interesting to see if Bonds is convicted and serves more time than say, Scooter Libby.

I guess I am a little cynical about the whole thing.

It would also be interesting to know what Bud Selig knew and when he knew it.

Who is REALLY surprised by this? Surely not anyone that doesn't live on some fantasy planet. I hope that motherFr never swings another bat. I really hate Bonds, always have!

This is so bad for baseball though, I mean he broke a record that is one of the most cherished sports records. It all makes me sick when I think about it!

Who thinks Bonds will serve any prison time? I would be very surprised, but a four year investigation wasn't done for just sh*ts and grins.

If he is convicted, he will almost certainly serve some time. It may be only a few months. (As a white collar criminal defense lawyer, I have dealt with a number of federal perjury/obstruction trials.)

I wonder what evidence they found? It must be substantial or they would not have let his trainer out of prison.

Maybe the trainer finally broke down and implicated Bonds in return for his freedom? The timing between his release and Bonds' indictment seems more than coincidental.

What does it say about baseball when its all-time hits leader and all-time home run leader both had/will have lengthy absences from the Hall of Fame, perhaps both never gaining enshrinement?

Baseball is not in a good position right now but I truly believe that Bonds and anyone else that gets mentioned in the Mitchell Report will be the low point and they will need to do some major PR work over the next few years to get it back to being anything close to America's Pastime.

As far as Rose and Bonds not getting into the HOF, I think they are two very different situations and we don't know yet that Bonds won't be in the HOF. I surely hope not. Rose may have bet on baseball, but was never found guilty of betting against the Reds. He was never found to be on roids and he didn't have some special eye surgery to make him see the ball better.

Bonds on the other hand, I truly think would have been a HOF'er without the roids. I am not a fan of Bonds at all, but he was a heck of a ball player. His records, if there is proof he was using during the record seasons, should be wiped off. If they can't prove when Barry started using, then they can't wipe records but can ban him. Of course, I doubt that even with proof they will have the balls to clear the records anyway, but when you look at an Olympic Gold Medalist, like Marion Jones who got caught for taking roids, they took away her records and medals I believe. Why not Bonds?

If someone knows for sure about Marion Jones having her records taken away, let me know please. I thought I had heard that but not I am quesitoning it. Maybe it was just the medals.

Not a chance. The NFL has been America's pastime -- and passion -- since the last baseball strike, in 1994, if not for longer. No amount of PR ever will change that.

To me it says baseball's a cockroach of a sport... all the scandals, the "work" stoppages, the unbalanced payrolls, World Series games going on until past 1 a.m., and not even this latest nuclear meltdown of having its all-time homerun king turning out to be fraud can kill it.

Baseball's been shooting itself in the foot since 1919. It'll be fine. All that stupid crap that makes you shake your head and wonder, "What the hell?" is almost part of it's lore, if you ask me.

Besides, only 136 days until Opening Day! :D

That's funny, 1994 is when the Tribe started their streak of 455 straight sellouts. I guess the strike's full effect didn't quite reach here.

I'm starting to worry, with the Tribe getting hot again, that it might make it hard to get tickets again. So if baseball's not America's passion anymore and this Bonds thing or the Mitchell report turns off a few baseball fans around here, that's not an entirely bad thing. It'll make it easier for me to get tickets.

No coincidence that was the same year The Jake opened, no? Also didn't hurt that The Tribe made it to the World Series in 1995 and 1997, and that they have been a consistent playoff team since the strike.

Nothing breeds fans like a winning team in a gorgeous downtown ballpark.

Although it breaks my heart to say this, but Football has been america's pastime since 94. I think it's somewhat died down since it's heyday in the early 90s, but it's still above baseball. Also, it's baseball's fault for this to happen. They still do not make an effort to reach out to young fans and attract them to the game. Just go to your playgrounds, you'll see kids playing football and basketball even in summertime. You only see baseball being played by little leaguers.
