Rugby has 150 page rule book... 8O

Watching the match, I wish every single sport would adopt the style of the refs in rugby. That ref was strangely polite yet took no s*** from the players. At one point in the match, a player was saying something, the ref responded said thank you, and the play just shut up.

I wish in football/soccer that any yelling to the ref was met with a red card. And the ref could yellow card all the damn bickering and whining you see in a match. Could you imagine if Rugby refs were in football.

Same goes for the NFL. I can't stand how there's a penalty on the play and there's players mauling the ref.

Maybe hockey is one of a few sports where you don't see players whine on every single call.

I also like how the ref is mic'd.

All good points, John.

Players b*tch in hockey. But when the refs retreat to that semi-circle along the boards near center ice, only the captain or assistant captain for each team on the ice at the time are allowed in that semi-circle to talk with the ref.

So you don't see the ridiculous surround-the-ref tactics after an infraction is called that tarnish so many Premiership games.

Take care,

Yeah, the way footballers surround the ref is disgusting. John Terry grabbed for the ref's red card not so long ago and got no punishment whatsoever.

Nice to see the Aussies showing their usual class and asking for rule changes after their loss in the semi final - wonder if they would have bothered if they had won.
Syd Millar is not an Aussie, he's Irish, and he's the guy with the power and the will to change the laws. The Aussies lost in the quarter-final, and these law changes were proposed a long time ago. So you've got everything wrong.

Don't think so - you can find John O'Neill's bleatings this week anywhere on the net, though I will admit that they got knocked out in the quarters. Since I didn't mention the head of the IRB at all, I'm not sure where you get your ideas from.

As for the rule changes, I think that if you read through them carefully enough, you will see that they are attempting to move the emphasis away from defensive play and large scale rucking and mauling towards a more expansive game...all they need to do is to dump rucking and mauling altogether, get rid of the flankers and you are almost in RL territory.

Either that or rugby sevens, which is entertaining for about, ooo, ten minutes or so.

The tournaments don't - and given that they use a full size pitch, it's probably as well for the players that it isn't 40 mins each way :D
