Interested to try some games on SS tonight.

Also, let me add one more issue to my previous list:
-Puck physics! Puck physics are pretty good above the goal line, but once you start talking about the boards and posts it gets pretty terrible. Every game you see several shots that hit the back boards or crossbar then go up in the air for 2-5 seconds before returning to earth. Pretty ridiculous. The fact that you hit the crossbar/posts in this game so often just exacerbates the problem.

That was my first impression when I jumped to SS.

I'll have to try Superstar as well. Thanks for the suggestion.

Despite it's own flaws, I have been feeling lately that I get better games from the AI on 2k8. (On Pro, tweaked sliders) But I haven't tried Superstar on 08 yet, so I'm looking forward to it!

Can't wait to try this SS theory out as well. Being a "console cat" AND a
"PC pup" I was considering ditching console hockey for just the PC variety, since this year's NHL08 on the PC is so good and doesn't have the difficulty issues of the console world.

For those having trouble scoring, up the shooting sliders (accuracy & power) and you will score more.

To those who have talked about SS sliders. Do you really have Interceptions at 0? I don't want to knock it til i try it, but it's easy enough at times to move the puck around on 5 or 6. Just curious.

I figured that wabash (and thanks 10s), just wanted to be sure. I've finally found very good sliders on AS but from the sounds of it i'll have to try SS now.

As a guy who's played the game of hockey for 35 years and coached it for the last 8, this is the one game that i spend a lot of time tweaking so i'm looking forward to trying them.

yes ..overall next gen console sports are garbage (some close to great but not) and that was hard to say but where is my 360 started its freezing episodes, i have stuck with NHL 08 PC, i can't find one real thing that bothers me so much i have to quit.

Good point, Kicko. That's my opinion on NHL 08, too. I've never played the next-gen console versions for comparison, but NHL 08 on the PC does a lot of things right, and none of the flaws is glaring enough to really piss me off.

NHL 08 on the PC, much like Madden 08 and Rugby 08, isn't perfect. But like those other two games, it has an excellent blend of realism and playability, with seeming emphasis on gameplay over gloss.

The 08 versions of NHL, Madden and Rugby also have surprisingly low system requirements for a 2007 release, so they'll run on older or weaker hardware than many think. I only have a 128 MB Mobility Radeon X1400 on a 2.16 GhZ Centrino Duo with 2 GB RAM, and I can run all three games maxed out with no problem.

Take care,
PK

Would the PC versions be less tolearable if they were purchased for $30 or $40?

Oh, the minister of software morality strikes again. Very cute. Sorry, my moral compass needle isn't moving despite your proselytizing.

To answer your question, no. All three are very good games, worth the money.

As a guy who's played the gam
Rally...can you share your sliders? I have been using QBert's over at OS and they make the actual gameplay more balanced, but they don't make it easier for me to score, which is my biggest issue. This game screaming for a damn goalie slider!!! I might resort to just playing my games under the "Play Now" mode, which lets you adjust goalie/player slider.

Also, the lack of goal variety is troubling. It seems like 95% of the goals come from between the faceoff circles and the AI scores more that 3/4's of them on 1 timer feeds across the slot.

I score a ton of goals on rebounds.

Mizzou and Sudz,

I'm curious because i wanted to like Pro, but how are you getting past the passive d-coverage in the opposition's zone? Did you find a fix or are you just "dealing" with it.

Jack,

I'll be happy to, but the problem is that the one-timers are in there on AS regardless of sliders. That's my biggest issue with AS right now.
In terms of scoring, let's face it, a majority of goals in hockey are scored from between the dots anyway, but i actually had to up shot accuracy to 4 or 5 in order to start putting pucks in the net and having competitive games. Since moving it to 5 i won a game 8-4 and lost games 4-3 and 5-4. I will post them either tonight or tomorrow anyway just so you can take a peek.

Interesting. In my 60 or so games, I don't think I have scored a single goal off a rebound. :?

One thing though when playing SS, the CPU still tends to one time their goals, but they also miss a lot.

Please post em anyway. Just use a "template" from one of the above
slider posts and change to your numbers.

I found difficult to be too.. I dunno, frantic. I have the game speed at 0, but I still found the CPU whipping the puck around on passing plays in nanoseconds.

And I found I was getting MORE shots on Difficult then on Medium.......

Maybe I'll try it again tho.
