I am really enjoying the game as well. I am playing on all star (12 minute qtrs) with a few slider tweaks. I upped fouls to 80 except reach in, I think it is at 60, turned down blocks to 30, and turned off clutch factor. I may turn down some shooting slides as I am seeing 50+ fg percentages regularly. I am seeing close games and blow outs for both sides.

I might get this game in the weekend.
Seeing the C's play Pre-season hoops has me NBA ready.

Here are the Isomotion moves:
Basic Moves
Basic Crossover
Nothing fancy. No trigger required, just flick the stick to your off-hand to quickly shift the ball to your other hand. Effective for separation if you opponent is overplaying the ball-side.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In and Out
This modifier can be applied to any crossover including the hesitation crossover and the stutter crossover. Instead of switching the ball to your offhand, the player fakes the motion and keeps the ball in his original hand. This is done executing a crossover and flicking the stick back towards the original hand before the dribble. No trigger needed.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step Back
Get used to this move because this is what you will be using the majority of the time for spot up shooting off the dribble. To execute, simply flick the stick opposite the direction you are moving. Again no trigger. This is most effective when you realize that the drive isn't there.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Size Up
Tapping the left trigger while standing in place will activate a size up move. This can be chained into a drive or crossover. Tapping the right trigger while standing will also activate a stutter size up move, which can also be chained. Effective to draw the defender closer before you explode.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stutter
To do a stutter, you simply tap the right trigger. From there you chain to a stutter crossover (tap right trigger, then hold, and move the stick towards your dribble hand) or a stutter drive (tap right trigger) then flip the stick towards offhand for a stutter cross. Great move to create separation after you have set up the defender with your basic crossover and drive.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step Out/Side Step Drive
You have to be moving to execute this move. Simply tap left trigger while moving, and your player will attempt to step out and go around his man. Use this move when your defender is too close to recover.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spin
Another move you will find yourself using often. To execute the spin, rotate the stick to toward your offhand. This may take some practice to perfect in full stride. This also does not require the use of a trigger. Great way to blow by a crowding defender or get separation for a spot up.
Advanced Moves
Behind the back
Behind the back crossover. Executed just like the spin except you'll need to hold down the right trigger. Effective when your drive takes you too far wide as your opponent's momentum will be going in the opposite direction.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Half Spin
The complement to the spin move. You do this the same way you do the step back move, except you need to hold the right trigger. If you have setup your opponent properly, he should over compensate when he sees the spin starting
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Double Crossover
Executed the same way you do the in and out except again you will be holding the right trigger. If the crossover is your move of choice, use this move to occasionally catch your opponent overplaying your first move.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hop Step/Spinning Hop Step
Not as effective as last year's version but should help you create space in close quarters or slide past a double team. To initiate the move just tap the Y or triangle button. To do the spinning variety, press the Y or triangle button while holding down the right trigger. To do a step back hop, simply press triangle or Y while on the perimeter.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hesitation Crossover
Similar to last year's version but it is much easier to execute. Simply hold both triggers while flicking the stick in the direction of your offhand. Like the basic stutter, this is a great move to create separation after you have set up the defender with your basic moves.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Protect Ball
This is done by holding both the left and right triggers and holding the stick back. You can immediately chain this into a drive by flicking left or right, and releasing both triggers at the same time. Again, this is effective to draw an overzealous defender in or draw a foul on defenders that like to reach.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jab Step
Compliments the drive. The Jab step is done by flicking the stick opposite the direction of your pivot foot. Like the protect ball, you can immediately chain this into a drive by flicking left or right, and releasing both triggers at the same time. This can be used for spot-up shooting or as a hesitation drive.

I am digging it. After a year in which I was underwhelmed by nearly every sports game I played, it's nice to play one that makes me want to keep playing. I wish the controls were a bit tighter, but I'm getting used to them. I think the CPU offensive AI is especially excellent, as they work the ball around and yet will take an open 3 if you leave someone unguarded. The atmosphere is good and I haven't even turned off Marv and Kenny yet, which is saying something since I almost always hate the sports commentary tracks.

Yeah, I read about your issues with Garnett over at OS. That's too bad, and unfortunately one of those things you can't ignore once you notice it. I'm playing with the Bulls, who lack a real post scoring threat, so I haven't run into those issues.
I can't rave enough about the offensive AI. I've played 2k almost every year, and it seemed like they tended to fall into the pattern of scoring mostly from the 2 and 3 spots. 2k7 was a little better, but still the offensive AI was kind of predictable. So far I'm finding that at all. I played the Nets last night, and Kidd ran the offense really well. Carter drove on me when he had lanes, Jefferson would take open threes, and Kidd took a realistic amount of shots. It's been like that with most of the teams I've played. I haven't had this much fun with a hoops title since Inside Drive.

Why is it that year after year, 2k's games seem to be unfinished. Surely all of this can't be blamed on the cycle. They just seem they can't put a finish on games without some bugs.

Even when calling for the double-team? Garnett is a load one-on-one, but is it still broken with a guard dropping down to dig the ball out?
Just curious...

Agreed on all points. This is a 90% *brilliant* basketball game. Just brilliant. The other 10% is annoying the crap out if me and you are right --once you see the exploit, it sure is hard not to go to that well when you need to.Brando70 wrote:Yeah, I read about your issues with Garnett over at OS. I will do whatever it takes to fix this, be it limit KG's shots, whatever. I
I'm the kind of person that if I REALLY love a game, I will do whatever I need to in order to enjoy it whether it's player editing, etc. I remember playing with House Rules to make NCAA 04 fun against the AI. It worked. I may have to do that here, too. Otherwise Garnett is going to have Wilt-like numbers. (His ratings are so insanely high too. They made Garnett Wilt Chamberlain with 17 foot range. He's 100% BS).
I really dislike the players are rated in most games. I hate seeing the "99" score out of 100. I just don't see any player ever being THAT good. Even Jordan. MJ had off nights, too.
Anyway, Jrod, yes I absolutely believe that is the case.
I see it as two different design philosophies:
EA takes baby steps most years, adding smallish feature sets to the established base. This is less risky, sorta boring, and (usually) results in a cleaner game. Sometimes it takes a game to another lvl, like NHL 08 when the base was in place in 07, it just needed tweaked. But look at Madden, Tiger Woods, NCAA..they all fit that pattern IMO.
2K tends to try to do more within the same cycle, creates more features, adds a lot of new stuff and not just back of the box features but real gameplay adjustments...but in doing that they suffer from High Heat Baseball 2000-itis. The games tend to have some pretty significant bugs or design flaws. This is not a cut and dried thing, but that's been my take over the past several years.

If the AI would DO that, it would help.K_Mosley wrote:Bill_Abner wrote:I'd be loving it too if the CPU could stop Garnett from scoring 50 a night. Post defense is really, really, bad in this game.

It doesn't. At least not enough.
If you have the game, I uploaded two Reelmaker vids

Great info and links to YouTube videos in this OS thread.
It has helped me a lot on offense. I use icon passing all the
time now and it has made a huge difference, especially on
fast breaks.

The consensus seems to be that CH offers more precise control (less animation heavy) and NBA2K is better graphically. Both seem to be solid games. Since my college team is weak this year (FL) I am having fun playing NBA2K8 as the Hawks this year.Zlax45 wrote:I am debating whether to pick this up or CH 2k8....Tough decision!!JackB1 wrote:tried my local Target today, but all gone
