Thoughts on jumping back to the 360

Well, I haven't played 2K7 since the update, but I can't imagine it being remotely close to how well The Show plays on the PS3. It played exceptionally well. To this date, it's my favorite sports game to ever grace a console, with College Hoops and the NBA 2K series a close second.

As a former owner of a PS3, that's the one and only game that I miss. However, there is a very promising article from April that the 2K developers say the game is making serious strides in the gameplay department. Brinkman said that the fielding stinks in the current game, and he couldn't be more right. If they can tighten up the hitting and fielding, and make the game run as smooth as The Show, then they just might have something to compare.

All that said and done, I just couldn't shake my desire for Live, a better controller, and more quality and quanity games the 360 offers. I also enjoy the arcade games more on the 360 as well. The ability to play free trials of arcade games is a huge plus IMO.

If you go the 360 route, then you owe it to yourself to purchase it through Best Buy like I did. For $59, you have absolute peace of mind for two years. If there's anything wrong with the console, you can replace it in the store rather than waiting for possibly weeks to get your console back from MS.

BC isn't a major plus for me. The $399 40GB PS3 is very appealing. For that price, you get built in wireless and a nice blu-ray player. The system is rock solid, quiet (but not super quiet as those have stated), and has free online. If you like the PSP interface, then you'll be quite comfortable with the PS3 interface. Their online is pretty cut and dry. They have a number of downloads now to demo, however demos take a long freakin' time to download. It borders on ridiculous very often. The majority of online players do not have a headset, so most often you will not have the luxury of interacting with your opponent. Xbox Live just feels well...alive. PSN just doesn't have that same feeling to it.

I don't think you can go wrong with either purchase. Having owned both, they both have their pluses and minuses. Just weigh the pros and cons before you make your decision. Good luck!

Thanks for the input. I saw here and on OS that you recently made the switch. It's good to hear thoughts from someone who loves the Show and still made the switch.

Weighing the pros and cons is making my head spin

PS3 Pros:
The Show (For me, this is what keeps the PS3 in the running)
Reliable hardware
full BC (as long as yuo don't go with the 40gb model)

PS3 Negatives:
No MotoGP or PGR
Price

360 Pros:
MotoGP, PGR
Better controller
Live

360 Negatives:
Hardware reliability issues (Maybe solved, if I can be sure to find a new model)
2K is the only option for baseball

You're not going to have an HDTV, you might consider waiting.

The Jasper revision of X360 is suppose to be out next August, which will have the cooler GPU, which is what generates most of the heat in the X360.

PS3 may have hardware revision as well. Also 2008 is supposedly when some of the games which were big on the PS2 are due, like MGS and FF.

There's likely more hardware revisions as well.

Sigh...one less here with the PS3.

I still prefer it by a large margin over the 360. My only problem is EA's horrible ports and the popularity of the other system for anything you want to play online.

The two will happily coexist for me at least until my latest 360 dies, which could be any day (I keep getting DDEs with FIFA).

And Matt, don't forget about F1 on PS3 - that should satisfy a lot of your driving sim cravings.

He said he won't be getting an HDTV until next year.

FIFA is suppose to be 60 FPS on the PS3.

Don't know about Live though.

Live is 60fps on the PS3. All EA sports games going forward are 60fps.

Most of the heat? No, pretty much 50/50. MS has addressed the CPU heat and has improved the cooling hardware for the newer models. I will agree that the best solution will be when BOTH CPU and GPU are .65 or .45 nm, but until then, the reports on the most recent 360's is vastly improved....

Here’s something that Xbox 360 buyers will want to know. Both Falcon and its predecessor Zephyr (used in the Xbox 360 Elite) have different thermal solutions than the original Xbox 360. You’ve seen the heat sinks in the cut-out photos posted elsewhere. The Microsoft engineers believe those heat sinks will be sufficient as a solution for keeping Xbox 360s from overheating. From their point of view, you don’t have to wait until Jasper to get a reliable machine.

From a neutral point of view, I would guess that Jasper would be more reliable than Falcon on heat issues, and Falcon will be more reliable than its predecessors. The Falcon board has the same old 90-nm graphics chip on it. And many have pointed out that the big heat problem in the Xbox 360 is due to the graphics chip. The Falcon board will likely give off less heat. But the real serious heat saver looks like it will come with Jasper.
