Wednesday Night For PGR4

Wednesday Night For PGR4
Gang:
I'd love to get some PGR4 time in with the group, and tonight should be a good night. I know Terry wants to do the same as well.
10:30p edt is the time to get together and start racing. The first six who sign up in this thread will get the first invites, and those following will be alternates. It's not uncommon for folks to fail to show up even when they intend to, so it's very likely alternates will end up getting in the room.
Stupid thing only holds eight, so what ya gonna do? If there are enough who want in, we could easily do two smaller rooms, so keep that in mind.
Who's in?

If my copy arrives today I'd like a spot. I'm still waiting on the mail.
EDIT: Well the USPS f*cked me again!
Still no PGR4. You guys have fun racing tonight.
Gamefly really needs to start shipping to Alabama from the East Coast distribution center instead of L.A.

Not as much response as I had hoped. Looks like it would just be three of us. I will still be up for a bit of racing, trying out the party system and some team play, but I may get pulled away by something else after a little while.
Mix, has it been over a week since GF listed it on the website as 'shipped?' If so, you should probably report it as missing/ lost in the mail, and have them send you another copy. If two show up, no big deal, just send back the one that comes later, but this kind of delay is sounding a lot like it was lost. I've had a couple GF games in the past show up with the mailers ripped open, so I don't put it past some USPS employees to be getting some free games this way. Same thing has happened to me with Netlfix.
Just make sure to clear your queue before reporting it missing, as they will send the next available game on your list if the missing one is not immediately available.

Yeah, I've been that route before. About half of my games take over a week to get here but only one or two have actually never arrived. For some reason it takes forever for the games to arrive here in Huntsville from Gamefly L.A. But when I return them I either get the instant return from them being scanned or three days if getting the normal return. It's odd that it takes so much longer for them to get here than to get back.
I'm half tempted to take some trade-ins and just buy the thing tonight.

That was ridiculous fun. Reminded me of the old days of PGR2 races. Mixing up the bikes and rockets and minis and crap is insane, but riding a lap around the Ring on a Honda CBR600 was epic. I don't know why, but that damned Bulldog mode had me cracking up. It was the video game version of Smokey and the Bandit or Cannonball Run mixed with Dawn of the Dead or Halo's "Zombie" mode. Doing back and forths with Zeppo while he's on the freeway overpass and I'm beneath it (or vice versa) was funny as hell.
I really don't know why more people don't have the game. We had 5 and it still was incredibly fun. With 8 it could be ludicrous.
But nothing beats being on a bike, misjudging a corner, and planting your front wheel in a car's front fender...then sliding face first across the hood and hearing nothing but cackles from the other players, who saw nothing but sparks and flying feet.

Hearing and seeing you go tha-dunk right in front of me was the funniest thing I've ever seen online.TCrouch wrote:That was ridiculous fun. Reminded me of the old days of PGR2 races. Great time last night let's do it again soon.

I had a blast last night too! I'm definitely glad I went out and bought it. I started out driving pretty horrible last night but after I adjusted to the control differences between this and Forza I started to do a bit better. For some reason I've always had a problem with see-sawing when trying to regain control of cars in PGR. I guess I just need to not lose control in the first place.
Anyway, looking forward to next time.

If this is going to be a regular Poker Night game, I am going to have to pick this up! I can handle a driving model like in PGR...it's not as hardcore as Forza or Toca. Are the cars tuned or standard? How do the bikes handle? You can actually race bikes and cars on the same race?
Sounds like fun you guys.

All cars are non-tuned. There are no tuning options.JackB1 wrote:If this is going to be a regular Poker Night game, I am going to have to pick this up! You can race bikes and cars in the same race...I seemed to be the only one who really enjoys the bikes last night, though. They are definitely trickier than cars. You have to really brake to that "perfect" cornering speed and lock in your corner, and then accelerate slowly off. If you just go full throttle, the rear end will dance and look like it's about to high-side you (I haven't had that actually happen, though). If you go in too hot and have to brake, it's easy to recover from mid-corner, but you'll lose all top speed, and 80% of the bikes have a much worse top speed than cars...but the cornering usually makes up for it.
I took a Turbine TT Superbike against some car that Zeppo was driving on the smallest tri-oval imaginable...it had incredible speed (the rare exception to the slow-top-speed-bike theory), but wouldn't stop, and Zeppo actually beat out the bike on a track that demands good cornering by simply pushing it through corners and powersliding better...I couldn't do it with a bike; at least not that Turbine. There are some of the older bikes that resemble "speedway" bikes that I've actually pitched and slid through long sweepers.
A lap around the Ring with Zeppo chasing me down in a Ferrari or something was epic, too. He'd catch me on every straight and I'd pull away in the corners.
Bottom line; the game is insanely fun, but more people have a tough time getting past PGR3 and the "sameness" of the series, which I can see. It's evolutionary, not revolutionary, so I really enjoy it. They didn't break what worked and refined everything, making it the most accessibly fun racer on the 360.

Hope to see you guys online soon. I have to wait for my gamefly copy, so it might be 4,5 days.

I picked this one up yesterday and was tooling around with it while you guys were playing. I had literally just popped it in so I didn't feel comfortable enough with it to race competitively.
One thing I realized is that the game seems to take the best of PGR2 and melds it with the best of PGR3 (namely visuals) into one helluva package. I got rid of Forza for this one and I'm already glad I did.
Another thing I realized is that I suck with the racing wheel. Are there any settings for the wheel in this game? I didn't even check before grabbing the controller. If there are I would love some recommendations for the settings because I had a hard time keeping my car straight with the wheel but had no problem with the controller. As if the response rate on the steering wheel wasn't enough to oversteer the opposite direction. Any pointers?

I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.
