I got that deal a few days ago, and I've already finished HL2:Episode 1 and The Lost Coast, and I played TF2 for an hour this morning.

You know, I've been on the fence about buying this one, but the closer the date gets, the more likely I am to break down and buy. I mean, how can you beat 3 games for the price of one? And three games that look incredibly fun?!?!

The original Team Fortress was probably my favorite all-time online shooter; used to love taking a sniper rifle and waiting for heads to peak out of the fortress across the way.
When/if this ever makes it out for the PS3, I'm all over it. (PS, I know it's due out for the PS3 in December; just sick of it.)

In fact, since it includes Half Life 2 + the Expansion Packs it's like FOUR games in one;tealboy03 wrote:You know, I've been on the fence about buying this one, but the closer the date gets, the more likely I am to break down and buy. HL2
HL2 Ep 1 & 2
Portal
TF2
Hell if it just included HL2 and the extra episodes I'd still buy it! Half Life 2 is still the most fun single-player FPS I've ever played (and hands down still better than Halo 3 in single player IMO).

360 here. You just can't beat XBL as far as I'm concerned:) Relaxing on my couch with a mic in my ear, controller in hand and a HD TV beats frantically hunching over my keyboard and mouse staring at my 15' laptop monitor any day. Portals looks a bit lame though so I'm mainly getting it for the TF2 multiplayer stuff and a bit of single player.maddoc1979 wrote:The Orange Box is also $38 for PC this week at Circuit City for those interested. Are you all mainly going PC on this or 360? I have a feeling that fewer people I know will buy it on PC, but for as quick a game as TF2 seems to be, PC has got to be the way to go. I'm in for PC.

I am purchasing this game(s) as soon as it becomes available to me (hoping for some mom n' pop/ chinatown early action). I know RobV will be getting it as well for the TF2. I'm looking forward to the entire package, especially portal which looks to be right up my alley. Of course, the single player games I will enjoy a lot, having never completed HL2 on the Xbox and never touched Ep. 1 at all.
And then there's TF2 which I can only hope has at least as functional a party system as SR. If not, it still might be workable, but I don't know.

An excellent primer on the character classes in TF2. Link stolen from Bill Harris' blog. But with his bum finger, what's he going to do about it

Just plunked down the dough for a preorder. Wasn't gonna do it, but HL2 was a ton of fun on the original Xbox, and I'm looking forward to playing it again, as it was meant to be, graphically.
Plus those other games look to be a fun time as well...

Let me say this, I got the game and TF2 is awesome...tons of fun. I have no problem saying it is WAY more fun than Halo 3. Slick graphics and cool gameplay. Teamwork is key and the objectives are very fun. There is Attack and Defend, CTF and Capture Points (so far) and they are intense. The class system is sweet. I played for about 2 hours as a soldier and its bad ass. RPG'ing someone is gratifying
If you hit someone they are literally blown to pieces
Engineers and their turrets are back...and they come in handy. Spys are a b*tch, Heavy Weapons Guys are a b*tch to bring down, Pyros are pricks. It is pure, unadulterated fun. I played 4 maps...all fun. My favorite from TFC - Well is in the game and its still my favorite. You have red and blue bases on opposite ends of the map and a big warehouse like structure in the middle...very cool for some intense battles when trying to gain capture points. Use of turrets by the engineers is crucial once you have established a capture point. Seeing those guys hammering away with their wrenches brough back some serious TFC memories
2 Forts, Granery and one other (can't remember the name) are the other maps I played. Initially finding your way around the maps is a bit difficult but after a round or two you will feel comfortable. If any of you guys are on the bubble I HIGHLY recommend it. I haven't even messed with Portal or the other SP games. 5 Games in 1...its a tremendous bargain. TF2 has DSP written all over it.

Diablo, does the game have any kind of party system, like Halo2 & 3 and ShadowRun? A game like this seems to me really needs one. SR would have been much less useful to me without it, considering the great dislike of the game among many around here. With the party system, those of us who loved it had the ability to really enjoy it.
I'm not sure. I just jumped into the only game available...and it was, I believe, an EA dev team game (not many people have the game). I do remember seeing some options for custom and ranked games but thats it. Again, I wasn't really looking so there might be a party-type thing. I do know this, the group I was with was able to stick together and go from map to map, etc. The game kinda took me by storm so I was flustered after a few minutesZeppo wrote:Diablo, does the game have any kind of party system, like Halo2 & 3 and ShadowRun? The stats the game throws at you are pretty cool...and well done. After each game you get to see the typical stats...kills, deaths, etc. There are also class specific stats...# of kills as a soldier, # of kills as a sniper, your best class, amount of damage you have inflicted with each class, etc. TF2 has a cinematic feel to it. After you are killed, the camera zooms in on your assassin in a screen shot type format. Also, if a capture point game is not completely won by the end of the game it goes to sudden death where there are no respawns. You hear "sudden death!" and all of your teammates start in the main room of your base and begin yelling ala Braveheart

There are, like, 3 games in the history of videogames who use the system you speak of...why, exactly is that a MAJOR bummer? A minor inconvenience, to be sure, but a major bummer? I'm not seeing it...
