My wife got us tickets for the Dogs and Vols tomorrow afternoon. It will be my first SEC game and at the largest stadium in the country to boot. I have always wanted to see a game in Knoxville, and having it be a division-rivalry matchup makes it even better. We will be sitting in the Georgia seats, but my wife claims she will be neutral (we are FSU fans). I will be pulling for Georgia because I like Richt and also because I want to hear the Vols play Rocky Top as few times as possible.
My Lord! I don't watch nearly as much college football as I used to, but if that Wisconsin team was a Top 10 team the sport is in a sorry state. No defense whatsoever.
I'm not diminshing the win, mind you. That's the biggest Illini win in a long, long time.
It seems that with Illinois hoops on the decline Zook may be doing his part to carry the load and maintain the see-saw success that has marked Illinois sports for the last several decades.

The sport is fine...the way the polls overrate certain teams year in and year out isnt....Wisconsin didnt deserve to be in the top 40 let alone top 10....its a joke year in and year out.
There shouldnt be any polls taken until at least the 4th week of the season....these f***in things decide the national champion .
I am not surprised by Zook's success. I think that he was still learning to be a head coach when he was at Florida. Plus, the man can recruit like nobody else. I have always thought that the Illini should be a good program. They have a large fan base, are close to one of the biggest cities in the country and are in a very good conference.
I had a good time at the Vols-Dogs game, but it was not the game I expected. Georgia was flat in the first half and dug a hole too big to overcome. Honestly, I think that part of it is youth on their part - especially on the O-line.

Yeah great win for the Illini today over #5 Wisconsin to go with another big win last week over Penn St. These 2 wins should propel the Illini to a bowl game. they should at least crack the top 20 this week.
Wow, they are playing well on both sides of the ball tonight baby!!!!!
Let's not get too excited. They started 5-0 last year too and we see what that got them.
I'm worried about them not showing up against Oklahoma, and then after that they could stumble against Texas Tech, Colorado, and A&M. Hell, even KU at the end of the regular season might be a tough one with how easily they rolled through their first 4 cupcake games.
Last night was awesome, everything clicked for us, but I'm tempering my expectations until I see how they keep up against a real national powerhouse like the Sooners next week on the road.

Not until the polls aren't influenced by the score of the game and not just the W or L.
Also, the history between these two teams may have had something to do with it.

Here's the actual quote from SU head coach Greg Robinson after they LOST to West Va 55-14...
"But we're going to be good. I liked what I saw today and we have something to build on. You guys might think I'm nuts but I could see some fight. I could see come confidence starting to develop."

This guy doesn't have a clue!!!!

This program is being run into the ground so deeply by AD Daryl Gross and coach Robinson that you might see the SU logo embossed on the Earth's mantle or outer core.
It really is pathetic. And the sad thing is that Gross' So Cal-bred vanity will prevent him from firing Robinson after this season. It's all about image with Mr. Bojangles.
Problem is, unlike L.A., image doesn't mean sh*t to Central New Yorkers. Honesty and results do, and Gross and Robinson have neither.
At least USC had victories to accompany the gloss ...
Take care,

I know Oklahoma is a great team, but we had a chance and threw it away.
If Pig Brown holds onto that INT in the endzone in the 4th, that takes the TD away from them, preserves the lead and recaptures the momentum. I think that that was big turning point in the game (not the deflection INT returned for a TD that put OU up big late).

It's ironic, but if this season continues with its unpredictability, it will illustrate more than ever why Division I football needs a playoff.
There's a very good chance that South Florida or BC could sneak into a BCS title game against Ohio State, and that's a sham.
The Big East isn't as good this year as predicted, as it has a few very good teams but no truly great teams. Rutgers and Louisville both were overrated, and I don't think W. Va. is as good as advertised.
The ACC is not a good football conference this season. Other than Virginia Tech and maybe Virginia, what does the ACC have other than BC? Not much.
Meanwhile, excellent teams like Oklahoma, LSU and Kentucky might get left out of the big enchilada because of one bad week. That's a joke.
I'm sorry, but I've seen USF and BC play. If you put LSU against either on a neutral field 10 times, I think LSU wins seven or eight games. Same with Oklahoma.
Yet there's a very good chance neither the Tigers nor the Sooners will be in the BCS title game.
Or consider the horror of this farce: Ohio State loses in the Big 10, and unbeaten BC and USF play for the national title.
Take care,
