Brianza? I love the place but I have a few issues with their placement of gravel traps, principally because according to the lines I take, the gravel is exactly where the track should be.

To clarify, so I don't get an online mismatch and totally screw up the prototype race - I need to download SCC 1.2 AND the 2003 addon, correcto?

Don:

I'm seeing rooms set up for PCC, Megane and Champ Car.

What am I missing here?

Thanks,
PK

Whatever it is, I'm missing it too. I'm sat merrily refreshing the server list and waiting to see what happens.

Sorry for all the confusion guys, especially since there was such a good turnout. The correct servers are up if anyone is still out there.

Seriously, I am really sorry. It looked liked we would have had 7-8 which would have made for great racing.

Can someone just verify that they can see these servers up?

No worries, Don. I didn't mean to clip your dick by setting up that alternate ETCC server. Thanks again for setting up those servers.

The ETCC's were fun. We should work those into a fairly regular rotation.

I was horrible again last night. I seem to be regressing with this game! Either I need to drive more than just Wednesday nights or just f*cking relax. A bit of both, I guess.

On a side note, should we just cut the schedule to two classes per week? By the time we got to Le Mans last night, I was bushed and went to bed. I know we had server issues that caused a delay, but I think we should book an hour per class when you factor in practice, races, spin-off races, etc.

Thanks again for racing, fellas. That was a nice turnout of seven or eight guys. Let's do it again next week!

Take care,
PK

I actually dislike the Champ cars a lot. I don't know why, I guess because it feels so much like a Formula 1 race to me. The cars are super-twitchy, super-sticky and just kind of "point and shoot". I ended up not having the Indianapolis track (must not have been linked) and got booted before the last race, though.

Two classes per week sounds good to me.

I think keeping it to two classes would be ideal, and we can run a couple tracks with each.

I realized how late it was after the Indy race so I went to bed. It was cool to get the win, somebody had to get PT's car across the finish line first! Who was that in the short chute sideways on the last lap? I missed them by a pigs pubic.

Grant:

That probably was me. I clipped the rumble strips in Turn 1 while running second to you on Lap 3, and I stuffed it into the inside wall, destroying my front wing.

I backed out of the game and into the lobby, thinking my car would be removed from the track. I guess it wasn't! Sorry about that.

Nice victory, man. Very smooth. You avoided the carnage and hairy racing in the pack, and man, it is HAIRY running Champ Cars on the Indy oval. Great fun.

Take care,
PK

Certainly was, PK. Smurfy and I came off turn one side by side on the final lap, and there was this blue and yellow car dead in front of us, right in the middle of the chute. Spiced things up a bit. I was hoping when Jimmy went off that the three of us might get a little train going and draft up to Grant to make it a four-way fight for the win, but I think we were a bit busy running three-wide for that...big fun.

I hate those ETCC cars, or at least the Skoda I was in. Hate hate hate them. Good racing, though, but as a driving experience, just...ick. A few of us got to Le Mans at the end, though I think only Don and I got to run any laps because Smurfy was having some kind of mismatch issue, and the prototypes were much more fun to drive. What a track mod, too - really well done.

Adam:

The Skoda is a pig. Try the Alfa, BMW or Seat. Can't believe you didn't race as Priaulx! :)

Your opinion about the ETCC cars raises an interesting point that we all need to consider for our Poker Nights: Driving vs. racing.

Yes, some of the cars are VERY fun to drive, but they don't create good racing. Higher-power cars like the Champ Cars and prototypes don't create the best races because of the varied skill levels of our group, whereas the ETCC and Meganes breed good racing because they're easier to drive.

I don't want us to have a lineup of Meganes, ETCC and Lupo Cup every week, as that will turn this into the Chimp Racing League. But we always need to strive for a balance between driving and racing with our mod choices.

With a reduction to two mods, we can choose a "racer's mod" such as Meganes, ETCC or Porsche Supercup and a "driver's mod" such as F1 1979, prototypes or Champ Cars to keep everyone happy.

Take care,
PK

I wanted to surprise...

My driving instructor had a Skoda (a Fabia, not the Octavia in the ETCC mod), so I thought I'd give it a shot. It's got understeer, then understeer, then a bit more understeer, then there's no road left.

I always found the Meganes quite enjoyable to drive as well as to race, not least because when I asked one to turn a corner it normally played along with me, but there's the risk of falling into routine and having it go stale if we keep on with them. I imagine with another car, maybe a Bee-Em because they're rear-wheel drive, I'd get along better with ETCC so I'll test that out.

There's a limit with cars like that, but it's more about ekeing out the last few tenths with those things - we're all good enough to reach a certain point with them that keeps the racing close and exciting. For a race night, that's better than something like Champcars - I love driving those things, but I don't remember the last time I had a proper race with someone on a track that wasn't Indy.

You had me covered all race in that thing, Terry. Every time I tried to go as quickly as you, I drove off the road. It didn't have enough front end for me to feel comfortable with it, though you and I have different tastes - the Champcars are just about my favourite mod to drive.

That's definitely what it boils down to. I don't know why, I like the heavy, sluggish type classes more than I do the twitchy little speed rockets. I guess it's less racy, but I don't really have as much fun flying around on the verge of spinning out every corner. It's weird, I can't explain it.

Sorry about DNF in 1st race, I'm still a rookie when it comes to starting style & race rules for all the diff. racing classes.

The Meganes are a great mix of driving and racing. They're not auto-pilot machines, as you need to stay on top of them, but they're stable enough that you can go side-by-side through a corner and not worry about taking someone out due to losing the car -- most of the time. :)

I think the Porsche Michelin Supercup and Euro F3's also are good mixes of racing and driving.

For pure racing, though, it's pretty tough to top the Intercontinental A Karts. Not the biggest handful to drive, but the dicing and slicing can be insane.

Take care,
PK

Formula Nippon is another alternative for a high-powered open-wheel car that's a bit more forgiving than a Champ Car but still requires attention to drive.

It was indeed fun having such a large group yesterday.

But the way some of you guys lapped those tracks I felt so unworthy.

This was my first time doing Champ Cars at Indy and I loved it.

As usual, a big thanks to Don and Paul for hosting last night.
