MLB Power Pros

Post by Leadfoot5 »

Am I the only one looking forward to this game this week? Everything that I have read from people who have played the Japanese version of the game has been positive. Surprisingly, even with the cartoonish graphics, the stats tracking and sim aspect of the game is supposedly pretty strong...

I'm actually pretty excited about this too, though I wish it was coming out for the 360. I rarely play the ps2 now, and I still don't trust when developers tweak their 'standard' controls to account for the Wii controller, as that can actually be a detriment to the game.

I haven't heard anything in the way of impressions of the us versions, though.

I've played some of the earlier Japanese releases, and it is quite good. Gameplay is very much like Pro Yakyu Spirits, and it (at least in the past) has played a pretty solid, sim-like game of baseball.

I'm interested in this game although somewhat disappointed that it's just a ps2 game ported to the Wii.

I wish they would put the Pro Yakyu out on PC, but I know that Asia is more console players.

Good Thread over at neogaf:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=189059

I'm *very* interested. Cursor batting, YAY! :)

This could KILL it among the typical American crowd, though:

'- Inaccurate player stats and batting lineups:
This is a biggie with this game being released in the US. In last year's game, it looked like Konami simply looked at the end of season stats for each player and assigned stats accordingly without looking at career performance or season context, so injured players like Thome were given a C for power because of their low HR total. As a result, this affected batting lineups as the CPU tries to setup an optimal batting order with these skewed player stats. They might have been able to get away with this last year with their Japan-only release, but this isn't going to fly at all in the US.'

Well I scored a copy(PS2) at Best Buy and while maybe Tjunging it, I have to say, this game is the %hit.

The presentation is off the charts....and it is not a kiddy game by any means.

I cannot wait to get deeper into it but I have not been this excited about a game for years and it just pisses me off we have waited this long for this kind of game here in the states.

Do yourselves all a favor and pick it up.

One example, I saw more presentation on a HR at Minute Maid Park in 10 seconds then I have seen in years in any baseball game. The ball actually bounces around and the train celebration was off the charts.

cathers catching foul tips, batters fouling balls off their shin, fielding erros on hot smashes....balls curving down the line...all in only 10 minutes...all I have to say is WOW!!!!!!!!!!

Can't wait for more.

I had no clue about this game, but now I'm intrigued. I'll wait til some more reviews come in, but this sounds like it could be a winner.

I'd very much be interested in how the game works with the Wii controllers, and if it feels natural playing a 'traditional' style baseball game with the nunchuck and remote.

i just picked up a copy too... wow! guys, don't let the cartoony look of the players throw you.. I have to say I have been very impressed with the game so far (only got about 2 in)... drawing walks, and got very sim like results in two games (Glavine lost a 6-2 game, Pedro won 2-0).. no lineup issues so far in season mode too (I think someone at OS said due to ratings lineups may be skewed)..

How about that game presentation eh Isles?

The HR's are a blast and the play highlites at the end of the games are sweet.

Heck, just the "general batting practice" option was awesome. I stayed up way to late last night just with that alone.

I wish it was summer right now so I actually had time to play it.

My only nitpick so far is it was easy to K the CPU on the expert setting for the first 6 innings....then they racked me.

Me too. I know I'm going to pick this up, but not sure if I should go the safe route (PS2) or the with the Wii version....

My dilemma exactly. The Wii version would be more convenient for me, but I'll grab it for the ps2 if it is better control-wise.

Is it true you can play the Wii version with a gamecube controller? If so, I think I'd be fairly comfortable with the Wavebird. I used that for Home Run Kings...

Yeah, in my poking around the other forums, it sounds like the Wavebird or any GC controller will work fine. Now, on the other hand, the Wii version is not 16:9 nor does it support Progressive Scan... I'm seriously leaning towards running the PS2 version on my PS3 that is collecting dust as reports are that it looks really good...

ps2 works fine on ps3.... that's what I am doing

i also noticed, (FINALLY!!) that they have the fact that if you play in a retractable roof stadium, that it DOES NOT RAIN when the roof is closed

Thank you!

also - i love the fact that when you go to select a stadium, they have a diagram of a seating chart which looks like the real thing (even have the right color seats for Shea!)

An especially important detail for Shea because you see so many of them, their color unobstructed by occupants...

badum-CHING!

Isn't he great folks! Webdanzer everyone!!! Don't forget about our clam special tonight and tip your wait staff....

So I picked up the PS2 version at lunch. The manual reminds me a lot of the old Nintendo manuals. Lots of information and very colorful. Here are some interesting tidbits:

- Please note that this manual will not be reissued, so make sure to keep it in a safe place. (Dunno why I find that funny)

- In season and league mode, any game tied after 20 innings will be replayed.

- The highest number of runs that will be counted is 99. (Royals rule?)

- The manual provides an introduction to each team. There are a few interesting remarks, but it's mostly 4th grade level material. "Florida Marlins. Established in 1993. Named after the fish which is found in nearby waters."

- Classic and Expert Pitching. Expert Pitching requires you to press the X button again as the pitcher reaches his release point to give the pitch more control.

- There is a "special" extra innings setting that can be used. From the specified inning on until the game is over, each half inning will begin with one out and the bases loaded.

- For the player "Form" icons, Red is good form, and Green is injured. Er...

- Success mode starts you off as a college freshman playing in the "Sunny League". Besides baseball skills, you can also build up secondary skills such as "Ladies Man", "Money Man", and "Bookworm".

- Luck also plays a role in Success mode every day. Each day you have a horoscope of sorts that gives you one of the following kinds of luck. Charmed, Great, Good, Bad, or Cursed.

- For Season mode there are options for a "Dream Draft" and two expansion teams.

- They have support for a One Game Playoff, like what happened this year with the Padres and Rockies.

- You can create a custom league for 1-6 people made-up of 2-6 teams. This looks cool for me and the kids.

Can't wait to get home and try this out...
