August revision: Will check out Madden 08 and NHL 08 for the PC.

First, must see if my rig can handle the specs. Then I need to see what features are ported from the console version to the PC with NHL.

If either of those criteria fail, I'll return to Rugby 08, Madden 07, MVP 07 (modded MVP 2005) and a slew of great racing sims on the PC.

Take care,
PK

Madden 08, FIFA 08, NHL 08 and maybe Tiger 08.

PK I have the same laptop as yours a Thinkpad T60. Mine has the ATi X1300 graphics card. If you have it in your Thinkpad it should handle all those games with no problems. It's just a matter of what graphics features you may need to lower a bit.

Far out, man. Good to know. So far, this Thinkpad T60 has handled everything I've thrown at it with barely a hiccup, even though most of the games I play aren't that graphically intensive.

Thanks!

Yeah the T60 is a pretty sweet laptop and very durable. It's a good thing you like it cause you'll be keeping it for some time. The last IBM laptop I owned lasted 8 years.

The new Thinkpads after the T60's don't seem to be built as well as the older model which we both have.

I'll keep it until May 2010, when I get a new one from work. We get new laptops every three years. I got the new machine, the T60, in May, as I had a T41 from work for three years.

:)

Due to travel, I didn't realize that GTA IV had been pushed back to 2nd qtr 08. That's actually good news to me. Scratch it off the list for now and replace it with GH 3.

I am actually really looking forward to Two Worlds. Supposedly (according to Terry) the PC version after patch 1.4 is amazing. Sorta a better version of Oblivion.

I am also excited about Two Worlds. I LOVED Oblivion and the chance to play through another open ended world is very appealing to me. I am also excited about Bioshock. Since I have both NCAA and All Pro Football, I am probably going to skip past Madden and wait until I exhaust the fun out of the other football games before jumping into that one.

I am currently finishing up The Darkness - which I have enjoyed. I am also having fun with Earth Defense Force 2017 - which is just a mindless fun game that makes me feel like I am inside a bad Japanese monster movie.

The big fall game season is not even geared up yet and I have more games to play than time to play them. It is a good time to be a gamer!

Has anyone gotten Two Worlds (360) and/or found a review?

Two Worlds is coming from Gamefly for me... though the no reviews and framerate complaints I've read give me bad feelings.

I am also waiting for GF to send it. It was not clear to me if it was framerate issues or online lag issues. Also, there seems to be a consensus that the voice acting is not very good. But I will give it a shot.

So, I recently made a list of all the games I want this fall, and it's completely out of control:
  • MoH:A? 9/4
    NHL08 9/11
    Blazing Angels 2? 9/18
    halo3 9/25
    PGR4? 10/2
    HL2? 10/9
    FIFA08? 10/9
    Conan?
    Mass Effect 11/1
    CoD4
    Assassin's Creed 11/13
    BinA:HH? 11/13
    Haze? 11/19
The question marks are ones I will be gamflying, most likely. MoH I am getting purely for single player, and am GFing it, but I'm sure I'll be up for trying out some MP if others have it also.

Blazing Angels I am GFing mostly for MP, both adversarial and co-op missions, which I really, really enjoyed in the first one. If no one else gets it, I can let that one pass, I think. But I really like co-op missions in a flight game, and the demo seemed to indicate they've put together nicely balanced arcade-style gameplay and well structured missions.

Halo3 is a no-brainer for me. Co-op campaign? Duh!

PGR4 is going to be tough to resist, so I have that on the GF list. If I could convince myself to avoid it, I will, but really, there's no hope of that.

HL2 is also going to be very tough to resist, and I am curious about TF2 (though at this point it seems like it will feel a lot like a watered-down Shadow Run with a 'too cute' cartoony style). I am very excited about Portal. I think I can live with GFing this one.

FIFA is actually on the GF list, can you believe it, because it may allow multi-console MP online. The chance to play 2 v. 2 online is easily enough for me to lift my FIFA embargo. As much as I dislike FIFA's gameplay in comparison to the competition, 2 on 2 is still worth the price of admission.

Conan is a mystery but could be a major sleeper hit. I may skip it.

Mass Effect is another no-brainer, but I admit I am concerned with the 3rd person shooter template for combat.

CoD4 is beginning to enter the no-brainer category.

Assassin's Creed has nearly become a no-brainer, but I've already got too many no-brainers! There is a ton of stuff about that game that looks extremely impressive.

Brothers in Arms: HH is one that I think will get lost in the shuffle. I really loved the MP in the first one, but almost no one else here ever tried it, and those few who did rarely grasped the 'you don't have to do all the shooting, you have a squad' concept. It was however uniquely fun and really good online. I am not hopeful, however, that there will be enough interest around here for me to get much time in online with it. The second one was pretty much dead on arrival around here.

Haze could be really good, but is seriously in danger of being crowded out. Sega Rally is another one that I am leaving off the list. The two technical videos on the marketplace are changing my mind, however. I mean that terrain deformation stuff is crazy cool and totally unique. Maybe another GF for that one? Eesh. I'm going to need the 7 game account!

And then the hoops games are not even on my list at all, even though I will be seriously tempted by 2K's college game. And then, Live looks like maybe they could be pulling off an NHL-type or MVP baseball-type of turnaround. That's the last thing I need! Please, let all the hoops games suck this year!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

Well, absolute, top of the heap for me is COD4:MW. If I have only enough money for one game this fall, it will be this one.

Other than that...

Halo 3: 4 player story co-op only for me here.

MoH:A (Zepp, I've heard that the MP is pretty darn cool)gf

BinA:HH

Assassin's Creed

And heck, I don't know. COD4 has me so tied in knots right now, I can't think of the others... :)

I hear you, Zeppo. I'm going to have to rob a bank to afford all the games I want:

Halo 3
Project Gotham 4
Half Life 2 (never finished the PC version because my PC had trouble running it)
Guitar Hero III
Tomb Raider Anniversary (mostly for the wife)
Mass Effect
CoD 4
Rock Band (199.99 for the special edition! )

That's about $600 worth of games, and I've left off some things like NBA 2k/Live, College Hoops, and Sega Rally that I would normally consider buying. There's probably no way I'll get all of these games, so I'll have to make some Solomon-like decisions on the gaming budget this fall.

It's killing me, as my funds are very, very limited at this point. The only games which I can guarantee I'll be buying on release are Halo 3, COD4 and FIFA, which looks incredible in the gameplay videos coming out of Leipzig. I'm going to GF all the other sports releases, and I'll probably keep NHL 08. I'm going to try to stick with NBA2K7 for my hoops, as it's unlikely that either new release will actually improve on what was for all intents a nearly perfect basketball game.

My list looks like this:

Almost definitely;
NHL 08 - 9.11
Guitar Hero 3 - 10.28
COD 4 - 11.5
PES 2008 - December?

On the fence;
Halo 3 - 9.25
PGR4 - 10.2
FIFA 08 - 10.9
HL2 - 10.9
Ace Combat 6 - 10.23
Rock Band - 11.20

Probably pass;
Medal of Honor - 9.4
NHL 2k8 - 9.10
Blazing Angels - 9.18
Tomb Raider - 10.23
Simpsons 10.30

It's really an embarrassment of riches on 360 this fall.

Update, all for PC:

PES 2008
More rFactor mods
NHL 08 (What the hell: I'll try it, despite minimal hopes)
FIFA 08 (What the hell: I'll try it, despite minimal hopes)

I just grabbed Mafia and Age of Empires III but put it on my external hard drive for the winter months like a squirrel putting away a chipmunk. Mafia is a really cool game -- much better than the Xbox version because it's deeper and has much better controls -- but I have too much going on with Madden 08, Rugby 08, PES 6, SWAT 4, Full Spectrum Warrior Ten Hammers, rFactor, NR 2003 and Richard Burns Rally.

Too many games, too little time.

Take care,
PK

Jimmy:

Yeah, that's the one. It's like GTA but set in the 1920s and 1930s.

I didn't know you can set up the wheel for driving. I'll try that -- cool!

Thanks,
PK
