The Wii was made for golf games, and last year's Tiger was good, but not spectacular. Did 08 for the Wii get any major improvements, or is the only real game in town found on the PS3?

Thanks,
The Wii version looked good from what I saw. I did not have enough time at TW Community Day to play the way the schedule was so tight, but those that did play it said that the swing was much improved.

Rod,

I have both versions, but I will be exchanging the PS3 version since I had to return my PS3 earlier this week because my graphics card took a crap and I need a graphics card more than I need a PS3 at this time.

I cannot tell you how cool it is to mis-hit a shot and have the 360 controller give your rumble feedback that intensifies the more you have mis-hit the shot...even on putts. For that reason alone, the 360 version is better than the PS3. I did not get a chance to see the PS3 version, but I was assured that the two are virtually identical in every respect, even framerates. I don't think the 360 version is 60 fps all the time as I do see some mild stuttering in very intense (lush vegetation and trees) camera angles. But, that is the only place I have seen even a hint of any kind of framerate issues.

The PC version is a major disappointment to me and the PC community. I am hoping that the TW PC Producer will listen to the concerns of the community (and I can guarantee you they ARE reading the forums at EA, OS, XBox.com, etc...). This Tiburon development team is committed to turning the TW franchise around (save for the 08 PC in its current state)...
Yeah first things first the PC version is really bad. One thing EA needs to address and maybe you can bring it up the next time you talk to them. Please tell them we are in 2007 and most PC users have monitors that display high resloution. So why does EA still use 800x600 res for their splash and menu screens? It makes no sense that every one of their sports titles still does this.

Wrt the console version both you and BigberthaEA over at OS has convinced me to buy the 360 version. And who says rumble doesn't matter and that it was last gen, oh yeah it was Sony. ;)

Thanks for the impressions Divot, keep 'em coming and maybe we can hookup on XBL and play some matches. :D

Agreed.

I am BB EA over there. Have not figured out how to change my username there as it goes way back to when OS first started.

I had to switch to the easy difficulty level for a few of the challenges.

That's easy, drop any of the mods like Extremegamer, Rockytop1, Holic a PM and they'll change it for you or they'll give you the info to do it yourself. :D Someone recently changed his username so I know it can be done.

Drop me a friends request so we can play sometime this week. :)

My biggest complaint about the TW series has been how easy it was on the console. These impressions have me very interested. I have like $50 on an EB card so I may pull the trigger. The game face sounds pretty cool and you do not need the Xbox Live vision cam to do it. You can just use a digital camera, edit it at EA and then upload it. Nice.

I like the "confidence" feature. It seems when you are on a roll it's easier to make shots but on the flip side if you start screwing up it's much harder to work your way out of it. I was -3 going into the back 9 at Sawgrass and that's when my game fell apart. I wound up +3 for the match. Good stuff.

Keep in mind I have the PC version and will be picking up the 360 version as well probably tomorrow if the store I went to isn't sold out already.

TJ39 wrote:Bought the 360 version tonight at Target. Graphics are outstanding. MUCH better than 07. The trees, golfers, water etc. are exceptionally well done. I love the 3 click method of hitting. Also, the game is much more difficult this year. Im playing on the balanced difficulty level and it's a real challenge. there appears to be a lot more items in the pro shop as well.
Thanks for the heads up. This is the first time I've ever gotten a game before the street date. Hopefully Target will let NHL 08 out early, then I'll truly be in heaven.

Yeah, the confidence feature as in real life is a bonus. Sounds like an overall improvement over TW07 from your post Divot. Now, I still have both systems, so my question is do both 360 & PS3 runs smoothly at 30fps or more? What are the main differences if any that you are aware of it?

I cannot answer your question because I honestly don't know the answer, especially the 30 or 60 fps debate. All I can say is TW08 on 360 runs in 1080p and it is outstanding in rendering quality. The addition of rumble with the 360 version for mis-hits is also a nice feature over the PS3. I also believe the 360 version will likely be the better choice for online play because of XBox Live....

Are they considering any other online modes, like multiplayer/multiconsole?

They are still the only PGA-licensed game right?

Four users, four consoles online maximum.

Still the only PGA licensed game.

Worth getting over 07? Is it that drastic of a difference?

My friend loaned me his 360 copy of TW07 and I couldn't get into it at all. I like the confidence meter. I've seen it make a difference already. :)

Don't take my word for it...rent it and see for yourself. To me it is a night and day difference....or go to the XBox 360 TW08 forums and see what others are saying about the game who managed to score an early copy.....

No offense to anyone but I am very skeptical. We seem to have this same EXACT thread every year. The game has gotten harder, the courses are better, etc...

It is usually Divotmaker too that says the game is so much better. Nothing against him either....I need some more opinions on this.

A poster at OS says the tournaments are still screwed up with rubber-band logic. He shot 100 the first round with the leader at -8, and the next round everyone was shooting 100 or worse. How exactly does this happen once, not to mention two years in a row?

Don't believe me, fine. However, I am far from the only person that is mentioning how much improved this game is.

Like I keep saying, rent the game if you can't bring yourself to believe myself or the others who have the game....
