I f'n hate the running in APF...for some reason I am in the minority. Glad to see someone else actually say it.
I think I have been pretty fair in my evaluations of all the games this year. I put in close to 50 games of APF, no one can say i didn't put in the time to have an opinion. We all know the people who are going to slam Madden and they sure as hell won't put in the time i did with APF. I don't care anymore if they can't get over their bias.
Having said that I need a much larger sample of games to form a final opinion. These are after 2 games. After 2 games of APF i thought it was heaven, after 30 games and rushing for 400 yards a game I thought it wasn't so good.

One of the only problems I had with APF on the field...the running game. I either bust loose for 300 yards with Natrone Means or get blown up every play. It has no consistency for me personally, and when I compare that to the unbelievable passing game, they just seem worlds apart. I played another season game last night with an all-legend offense (all 11 picks on O) and I'd still have a tough time getting the running game going with Gale Sayers with consistency, yet I'd torch the other team every drive with Marino.
I've only had time to pop Madden in for two games, but my initial impression is that I don't like it. Not even that I don't like it- more that I don't trust it under the hood. I spent a lot of time in the replay mode checking out how defenders respond, and it seems like they are consistently getting jumps on passes that they don't see thrown, whether in man or zone coverage. A nickel back running trail behind a streaking slot receiver will nevertheless peel off as soon as the ball is thrown and somehow get over to the hash in time to make a play. The defense is unquestionably tighter than it was in 07, but it feels like there is a lot of cheating going on to make it that way.
A few other quick notes:
-I'm finding the play speed very fast after being accustomed to NCAA and (especially) APF. It's not a problem, and I'm sure I'll adjust, but there's no question that the action happens fast.
-I loved the weapons concept, but I'm finding the screen a little messy at the moment. Again, I'm sure it's something I'll get accustomed to, but it's like the straw that breaks the camel's back in the pre-snap option department.
-The blocking is definitely more sophisticated than in year's past. I'm not one to run back twenty yards and chuck, and I know I saw people doing that on preview videos, so there are some problems with the DE/OT interactions, but if you want to stay put, a pocket does form, which is a good thing.
-The player control is certainly much better than in any EA sports game I've played on the 360. It's extremely responsive.
Picked it up at best buy at the midnight launch...plays alot like the college game in my eyes but it just seems better. I think it's the best madden in a long time. I didn't play last years madden at all so I had no expectations going in other than hoping it was as fun as NCAA and it's delivered on that and then some. I also love the radio announcer. It's funny that people think this feature is lame after having put up with the boring Summerall and Madden and then Michaels and Madden. I think the announcer brings some excitement to the game and he kind of went nuts when I kicked a field goal as time ran out to win my first game.
The game looks fantastic on the 360...freaking beautiful. I also saw the PS3 version being played and the colors didn't look as good...they looked faded. The Rams jersey looked more purpleish on the PS3 than blue but the gameplay looked good for those of you concerned about the 30fps.
The game is good and it's got the "just one more game feel to it" I didn't want to put it down last night when I got home.

You're not alone I like the radio announcer. Up until the radio announcer I always turned off Madden and Michaels.
There is a podcast on ESPN about video games (including Madden 08) with Bill Simmons and his gaming partner for the last 20 years. Some of it is just hilarious and easy to identify with - the link is on the front page of ESPN.
Oh yeah...and it's good that you have been very happy the last few years. At least you got it out of your system. It's about to change in Coral Gables. Time to go into a depression.

Ugh
Yeah, I'm surprised Sony didn't mandate that they don't show Madden 08 PS3 next to Madden 08 (or 07 for that matter) on the 360 next to it. It's sooo obvious that it was made for the 360 first.
The passing game is weak sauce. Certainly not up to APF. The touch of the ball is going to take some getting used to. The eyes in the back of the head have made their return which is stupid.
Oh QB accuracy is better than previous maddens. With Cutler, I'm throwing the ball all over the place.

I'm one of those sorry kids. But, no worries here. I picked it up as a rental during lunch. Plus, it doesn't sound like it's a slam dunk positive review for all the 360 gamers either. I think Madden is still one year away. Next year, I have faith the PS3 version will look and play a lot better.
Still, I'm looking forward to playing the shotty version this evening.
Madden and EA are like the Indians in "Major League".

way to make eat my words. I guess what I was trying to say was that I thought we would be graduating a few more since they were staying out of trouble, unlike the other schools in the state
