According to this (longish) thread, all 360 SKUs with a manufacture date of July 2007 onward (or, just going by the outside of the box, a lot # of 0728 or higher) will have the 65nm "Falcon" chipsets and additional heat sink, hopefully eliminating the RROD for good.
It doesn't sound like these consoles are in stores quite yet, but some posters who recently sent in their 360s for repair are are reporting that they're being sent newly manufactured 360s from Microsoft.
Like all such threads, take it with a grain of salt... sounds pretty legit, though.

Excellent news. I'm assuming you can see the manufacture date on the outside of the box?cootdog wrote:According to this (longish) thread, all 360 SKUs with a manufacture date of July 2007 onward (or, just going by the outside of the box, a lot # of 0728 or higher) will have the 65nm "Falcon" chipsets and additional heat sink, hopefully eliminating the RROD for good.

The lot # is printed on the outside of the box -- you would have to open the box to see the manufacture date on the unit itself.
Meanwhile, now the rumor mill is churning that the new Premium and Core SKUs will have HDMI as well:

If all these rumors prove to be true, then it sounds like the "soft launch" of new 360 hardware is already underway. The price cut rumor already came to fruition, so HDMI + 65nm + heat sink doesn't sound so far-fetched anymore.

Well as my repair entered the pipeline yesterday, I can only hope that this rumor is true, but I won't keep my hopes up...cootdog wrote:It doesn't sound like these consoles are in stores quite yet, but some posters who recently sent in their 360s for repair are are reporting that they're being sent newly manufactured 360s from Microsoft.
The xbox live dashboard update today made my fans run faster. No doubt about it. I had just got my 360 back from repair (an electrician with a BGA reflow machine- no way was I dealing with support for a 4th time) and when I downloaded the update there was a forced restart and my fans are a lot louder. But the unit runs cooler, so I will take the tradeoff.

Not to start a conspiracy theory - but MS is never totally truthful about these little dashboard updates. How many times have they said that the update was little more than a minor fix to something and it turned out to be more of an anti-piracy update? Not that I am complaining - MS has every right to introduce things in their software to prevent hackers from pirating, but I think the point is valid.
I could be wrong, but I would swear on a Bible that my fans are louder and push out more heat.
I also find it interesting that this update required a forced reboot of the dashboard - not something I would have expected from an update that added support for a peripheral.

It does seem that the newer 360's will be equipped with HDMI starting next month.
