Ditto here. I'll play FOF 2k7 if Madden doesn't get some praises from some folks I trust. NCAA and APF will be fine as far as I'm concerned with console football gaming.AJColossal wrote:That was my modus operandi every year, but I think I have the strength this year to hold off, partly due to the quality of APF, and also because of what I've seen from previews that concern me.Slumberland wrote:I, for one, am excited to enact the yearly ritual of playing Madden for a week and then regretting my purchase. Tradition is comforting.
One of the developer diaries I saw show how the db AI is so "beefed up" this year, with the video showing dbs jumping around blindly like the Flying Barzinni Brothers, making one improbable interception after the other. Couple this with the interception fest that NCAA turned out to be, and we might be in for some issues.
This is a wait-and-see year for Madden for me, the first in I don't even know how long.

360/PS3 comparison videos. Haven't had time to check it out, but I think it's what we expected. The 360 version is more polished.

Well im not a huge football guy any more and have only played the demos of Ncaa and APF but from what i see and feel i dont see how anyone could enjoy Madden or Ncaa after APF , just the animations alone makes it that much better and the feel of it just... well its a great tandem.
I guess if you dont play APF for a while or havnt at all, Madden and Ncaa would be fine but going back to the demo of Ncaa after APF was eye opening and i liked Ncaa at first.
That video of madden above ps3/360 the way the running back just moved, eew. Gives me the same feeling.
Hey the licence tho.
I guess i should just buy APF . I wanted to get a Football title this year i guess i can hold off for some madden thoughts.

Once you play like 3 games, that wears off and you realize that APF should have been an Xbox Live Arcade game with a $10 price tag. Maybe not that extreme, but it's definitely a budget title at a full title's price. It's just shallow as hell.Jimmydeicide wrote:Well im not a huge football guy any more and have only played the demos of Ncaa and APF but from what i see and feel i dont see how anyone could enjoy Madden or Ncaa after APF , just the animations alone makes it that much better and the feel of it just... well its a great tandem.

Well, I'm one of the few guys who really enjoyed Madden 06 and 07 on the 360 despite the lack of modes. I liked it strictly based on the direction they were taking on the field compared to last gen versions. I'm very excited about 08 and think it will be very good. I know I'm in the minority around here about this but thought I would mention it because there's still a few of us here that really look forward to the release.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

Speaking of Madden videos, anyone still remember this one?

You think EA would like us to remember that commercial and the screen shots they released before then?
Or the boast that the game would look even better?
Now if they couldn't make those kinds of graphics run at 60 fps, it would be easier to cut them some slack.

I have both NCAA and APF...I have probably played APF about 40 games while 6 of NCAA. I just can't hack the EA animations and stuff.dbdynsty25 wrote:Once you play like 3 games, that wears off and you realize that APF should have been an Xbox Live Arcade game with a $10 price tag. My xbox live name is "The Zlax45"
I've felt the same way for a few years now. After playing a game with a realistic pocket, running game, etc., I've never been able to go back. Maybe this year's Madden game will surprise me (hope so), but I'll probably wait to rent or buy a used copy instead of shelling out the $60.Zlax45 wrote:I have both NCAA and APF...I have probably played APF about 40 games while 6 of NCAA. My favortie thing about this years release is I am getting it on the 14th and the next Day I am on vacation at GenCon. So I won't need to read the same posters spewing the same crap on here and at OS.
I'm kind of hoping I enjoy Madden this year, I enjoy NCAA except of the ludicrous INT problem in single player. So if they fixed that it should be decent enough.
I just want a game I can have fun with at this point. NCAA has to many INT and it's animations look horrid compared to 2K's game and APF is just boring due to inflated stats and a shallow single player experience.
If Madden fails to kepp my interest at least there is a slew of non sports games coming out in the next few months.

Wha? If I see it at the mom and pop on the way home I will not be able to resist. I just won't. If companies really want me to buy their games, just put out a fake release date and then let me stumble across it a few days early. Those first few days with an early copy of Crackdown were so frickin' sweet.
Could have been me. Just finished an exhibition loss to the Rams playing my Seahawks 31-28. Before I head out on a trip I had to unwrap it and have one game under my belt. Loved it. I had the possibility to win the game with two seconds to go but was intercepted. A complete overhaul of 07. Smooth as buttercake, no stuttering like last year's game, and I loved the running game especially using the stiff arm. Controls are very responsive and the animations are yet improved. Challenged two calls which were reversed on my favour and the gang tackling is done properly.Diablo25 wrote:Someone is playing it on my friends list.
Graphically the game just shines, beautiful textured grass and unlike last year's they don't change colors as often, if at all. The improved frame rate is the first thing you notice compared to 07, I just wished I had more time to play with it more. Audio wise, it's back to the annoying EA's radio team . Anyhow most of you will see the nice improvements, good luck getting the game.
10:
You in stage 1 of any EA Sports release. The game is the best football game ever.
It's just a matter of time before you hit stage 2: You'll start seeing some things that aren't quite right.

I only played one game v. the AI and the highly overrated cowboys, and one thing that really stands out is that you STILL CAN'T SEE HOW MANY TIME OUTS EITHER TEAM HAS, even your OWN TEAM! GRRRRR!
After one game and some practice time with the random play option, it seems like it's much more polished and is going to be a crapload of fun. Like NCAA, I didn't notice any mario running as yet, and maybe the O-line run AI is not quite as brain dead as it seems it is in NCAA as revealed when playing my HB legend guy.
But I've played way too little be able to make any serious judgments. Immediate impressions, though, are that I am very glad I have it rather than not.
Oh yeah, there doesn't seem to be a way to save and upload highlights, or maybe I am just missing it. Lame, if so. The default 'home' unis of the Redskins are dark, which is also exceedingly lame. The two classic uni options are really nice, though, so I'm hoping I can use them online. And I still don't know if you can do the 'live game' feature for season play. I sure hope so. That was the coolest thing in last year's game, I thought.
