BONDS 756
Saw it on espn and was that the lamest and non energetic celebration or what? For this record, it flet very Unimportant and ordinary. I was thinking when Hank Aaron broke the record, it was like a big deal, even the Dodger players congradulated him, and it was such a huge deal.
but tonight, it was almost like oh just another HR. Maybe if Aaron and Selig were actually there, or even the NL President, it maybe would have felt more important.

I could care less about him hitting 756....The players are on PERFORMANCE ENHANCERS STILL!!! Bonds can still take HGH and will never fail a drug test because the MLB doesn't even do blood testing.
Bonds said after hitting 755 that the MLB players need to stick together and keep the fraternity quiet...This means he doesn't want to have people ratting him out.

I think to a lot of baseball fans, 756 is more than a number. It's an ideal, it's symbolic, and it embodies what a lot of us dreaming about as kids.
For me, Barry does not meet this ideal. He's selfish, and he's a cheater. You know what I take from 756? Him, standing on home plate, as his son waits to hug him. It never came. HE hugged Barry, as Barry pointed to the sky.
What a nice guy.

Yup, that right there IS BARRY.brendanrfoley wrote:I think to a lot of baseball fans, 756 is more than a number. It's an ideal, it's symbolic, and it embodies what a lot of us dreaming about as kids.

I don't have a problem with Barry the person on or off the field. Sure the guy's an A Hole and we all know it. There have always been selfish A Holes in baseball Ted Williams comes to mind.brendanrfoley wrote:I think to a lot of baseball fans, 756 is more than a number. My problem with Barry is I know for a fact he's on something not legal and it's not only Barry it's a lot of baseball including Pitchers hell there's a rumor that A-Rod is in the mix. IMO this whole HR record is a fraud and baseball deserves the blame for allowing it to happen along with the players union.
Barry can hit another 150 for all I care. IMO I will always see Hank Aaron as the HR king. In fact I remember watching on TV Hank Aaron hit his record breaking HR.
I paid no attention to the HR chase leading up to this mess. If Hank Aaron and Selig were not at the game tonight it more than shows how much credibility Bonds has in the baseball steroid era.

If you would've told me 20 years ago that I would be more excited by a little black guy scoring a goal for Glasgow Rangers in the play-in round of the UEFA Champions league than by a guy breaking Hammerin' Hank's record, I would've kicked you in the nads. Yet it is so.

The true significance of the home run is that less time will be spent talking about a player on a last place team and more time might be spent talking about the pennant races and the upcoming football season.
As an added plus, Erin Andrews gets to come home to her apartment in Atlanta. I may stop over to see if she needs a cup of sugar.

Are Giants fans just dellusional? He plays for the home team. I get that. But, do they truly believe he's done it legally? I'd have a very hard time cheering for him if I was a diehard Giants fan.
The only positive I can put on Barry breaking the record is that every time his name is brought up 10, 20, 30 years from now, there will always be an extra comment about how he cheated his way to the top. No one will ever give him the accolade he feels he truly deserves. Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron will still be talked about as the true homerun kings.
By the way, I didn't even catch Sportscenter this morning. I missed him cheating the record last night, and I don't feel one shred of envy about not seeing it.

It was a fitting celebration, because it's the most tainted record in baseball, or perhaps sports, history.Inuyasha wrote:Saw it on espn and was that the lamest and non energetic celebration or what? Baseball knows it. America knows it. Only the fawning idiots in San Francisco and Bonds don't know it.
I'm glad it's over. Now the sports world can focus its attention on something that really matters and stop putting the spotlight on the most celebrated cheat in baseball history.
The biggest baseball moment of the last two weeks was the induction into Cooperstown of two guys who played the game right and represented it with the utmost distinction, Cal Ripken Jr. and Tony Gwynn. It's not the ESPN-induced adulation of this piece of sh*t who soiled every accomplishment of the great Henry Aaron.
Aaron was pure class; Bonds is a drug-addled ass. Last night's "feat" is nothing to celebrate. Nothing at all.
Take care,
PK

It's funny, they showed him sitting in the dugout after the homer, they zoomed in to a side view of his head as he looked out to the field, and as the announcers were waxing on about the historical significance of this moment, all I could think was, "Is his visor that small or is the rest of his hat that big? That's got to be the biggest baseball hat I've ever seen. They must custom make those for him. They should make the visor a little bigger so the hat doesn't look so freakish."
I decided then it was time to go to bed.

You have to wonder though what the long term health of these guys will be (see Caminiti, Alzado, Matusak). He may not face any legal ramifications, but he could face much worse.johnvon314 wrote:My biggest fear is that Bonds will get off clean. So many people are covering for him. That's all I thought about watching the video. His kid is waiting there with open arms to hug him and he doesn't even look at him. His kid hugs him, he doesn't hug back, he points to the sky (when he should have pointed to his medicine chest) and then turns away from his kid like he's not even there and goes on to hug his teammates. WTF@$#%$#@!!!!Sudz wrote:not hugging his kid.
i hope bonds steps in f***in dog s*** today.
total prick.
and can this story just go away..please?

At least now the rest of the world can see what an ass he is.......remember Mark McGuire when he embraced his kid, picked him up, etc. That was a touching moment. I really feel bad for the kid. His friends must feel like his Dad doesn't give a sh*t about him.
Lets not forget Jose Canseco who admits using steroids in the 1980's. Over time I think the publics view of Jose will change for the better in that at least he exposed all of this. I know he was doing it for selfish reasons but even in during the McGuire, Sosa HR chase I had some suspicions because I grew up in a era where 40 HR's a year was a major feat for any BB player.icvu42 wrote:While I can't stand Bonds and feel nothing for the record, let's not forget the guys who also helped make this record useless... McGwire, Sosa, Brady Anderson, et al.
For the record, I don't like Hank Aaron either. The guy stiffed me when I was an 8 year old kid and asked him for an autograph.
Rck
Because of Jose the lie has been uncovered and I now hold baseball with the same esteem as I do the WWE.
