Yeah, you're right about that - the jump from 8600 to the 8800 is huge. I said "only" just because the recommended specs say 512 MB.dbdynsty25 wrote:ONLY? I'm pretty sure the price of the 640 MB GeForce 8800 GTS card has dropped significantly in just the past two weeks. When I bought my PC from Cyberpower the 320 MB card was $303 and the 640 MB was $493 so I never considered getting the bigger version. But now the prices they have are $300 and $409.

Wow...that's one hellova markup. I got my 320 for $239 and my 640 for $359 about four months ago. I guess they have to build in the testing and installation though...so I suppose it's not as high as I think.Feanor wrote:I'm pretty sure the price of the 640 MB GeForce 8800 GTS card has dropped significantly in just the past two weeks. I saw one or two videos of NASCAR at gametrailers.com and the thing that gets me excited is that it will support 16 racers online. There are, I think, only two road courses, but with 16 cars online and then possibly filling more of the field with AI cars, if they are worthwhile at all, I may even be able to deal with the occasional oval race. 16 people online!
You RPG guys might like this Mass Effect video. Pretty impressive.

Team Fortress 2 has looked really fun to me from the first time I saw it, but with the lukewarm reception around here to ShadowRun, a very similar concept, I'd be a bit surprised to see it stick around here.Macca00 wrote:DEFINITELY! I'm also looking forward to the new BiA. The last one was a little less than I had hoped, but the MP in the original remains one of my favorites ever, even though I didn't play it very much at all. Having 2 on 2 with squads was mega fun and very different from any other game I've played; I have no idea what they are planning for this next one online, but I hope they get at least 3 on 3 going.
I pulled the trigger. $400 CDN for a used one with 2 controllers (one wired) and GRAW, Lost Planet, Gears of War, Ridge Racer 6 and Arcade unplugged. I'll be back on XBL now. I don't have Forza 2 yet but I will.James_E wrote:Coming into my radar is a repurchase of an XB360... debating diving back in...

Portal is the one in that box (as Dave O'Brien would say) that I am really, really looking forward to, besides the main feature of the HL2 episode, of course.

I haven't gamed in over three years. I'm excited to get back into it as I can get an Xbox 360 for free (as part of a comp. service at a poker site I've diligently played on for 3 years--the reason I haven't gamed).
I'm interested to try out APF 2k8 (as I've always been a more loyal VC guy than EA guy after playing NFL 2k3 and never really looking back) as well as trying out the new hockey games...from what I've tried to catch up on NHL 2007 from EA was actually good (shocking, because EA hockey used to suck).
Does the Xbox 360 have any baseball games or any niche games worth trying?
I'm thinking about getting three games.
APF 2k8 and then two I'm open for.
EDIT
Does Ratbag do any games any more? (racing games)
World of Outlaws: Sprint Cars for the PS2 (which I think came out in 2002 or 2003) was the best video game I've ever played next to the Winning Eleven Series (WE 6 is my all time favorite, though they are all good).
That game was so addicting, so realistic, and just an overall blast.
My PS2 broke so I can't play it any more, probably a small reason why I just dropped gaming.

A trio of NHL '07, MLB 2K7 and APF 2K7 would probably provide months of gaming fun. MLB was sort of a slider nightmare and I eventually gave up on it but I've heard that All-Star default settings became much more playable after they patched it. NHL '08 is just a month and a half away though.
As for niche titles, DiRT is pretty freakin' awesome.
Personally, I'm really excited for BioShock. But perhaps no one should take advice from the dude who's been playing History Channel: Civil War for the past couple days.

Actually, how good/bad is Civil War? It looks interesting and I hope it drops to 19.99 soon.Slumberland wrote:Personally, I'm really excited for BioShock. But perhaps no one should take advice from the dude who's been playing History Channel: Civil War for the past couple days.

Take care,

Civil War is kind of awful. The graphics are pedestrian, the soldier voices terrible, missions end all of a sudden with no real warning, it seems like you can take a hundred bullets and still finish the missions with full health (as long as you take cover to 'heal'), etc. It's like the fever dream version of Call of Duty. AND YET... I'm having fun with it. The way they set up the history behind each battle is well done, some of the settings are neat, and it's hysterical how long it takes to load some of the weapons... you've never seen anything like it. I'm just happy to be playing a Civil War game at all. Melee attacks are sort of fun, too. You can knock someone back and then shoot them point blank with a musket. Knives, pistols, even an old school sniper rifle. I don't regret the rental in the slightest. What other game lets you sneak up on old, white-haired men and shoot them in the back?

Hooked!
Mercury Meltdown
MLB Power Pros
Tiger Woods 08
All on the Wii.
My gaming habits are significantly changing. Most of the 'hardcore' games have little appeal to me, although I still like my games to have a lot of substance. I still use 2k5 for my football fix, and the Show for baseball, but I'm having a fun time with the Wii and games like Wii Sports, SSX, and Marble Madness. I have virtually no interest in Madden, even the Wii version.
