Bite the bullet and turn on some aids if you're at 0/25 and still bounce around. Either that or you'll have to learn to have a much steadier thumb, there's no two ways to say it...sorry man.
It's very twitchy, and if you turn off aids and end up all over the track, turn on some steering help or stability.

Steering help slows you done too much leading to the AI cornholing you. Damn if you do damned if you don't.
The game just doesn't have the same control set-up as DiRT, Forza or F1.

I have been through all of the trials with the controller. You see enough from the game that you know it could be good if you get the settings right. But I never could, I tried many permutations of aids and setups, and could rarely find the sweet spot. I would have dumped the game had I not got the wheel. I play all other racing games with the controller, but it seems EA only allowed this game to be enjoyed by people with a wheel.

Thats what I was thinking. They must have developed the game using a wheel. I'm not going to get a wheel just for one racing game. If I can't find the right settings, then I'll get rid of this game and just wait for Madden in a few weeks.
I don't know why it slows you down but it does.JackB1 wrote:how would steering help slow you down?JRod wrote:Steering help slows you done too much leading to the AI cornholing you. Damn if you do damned if you don't.

Often, as with games like Grand Prix Legends and even F1 '06 on PS2 (it may well be the same with F1 Championship Edition on PS3 since they're essentially the same game), the aids are set up in such a way as to reward players as they progress and learn to drive the cars without aids. The aids are set up to be a crutch - something to guide you and show you the ropes, but not something that can be used to get around a track at full speed - the unfair advantage, and all that - and so something you'd need to chuck in order to go quickly. Having not played a full version of NASCAR '08, which is still a good month away from a PAL release, I'm not at all qualified to comment on whether that's what EA have done, but I wouldn't be at all surprised.JackB1 wrote:how would steering help slow you down?

Adam is right. It's a lot like using a manual transmission in a non-oval racing game. You will be faster than if you use an auto tranny because you'll have better torque pulling out of corners and use engine braking better.
Take care,

I'm pretty much done with this game. It could be so much better but the controls really suck. The only way this game is playable for me is with less than 20 cars on the track and collisions on. But what fun is that right?
Should have saved that $20 for madden but lesson learned. Too bad they never made Nascar 05 backwards compatible on X360. I know Nascar 06 is but I remember people said that game was a step back from 05.

It's a step back because of the Team Control crap but you don't have to use it if you don't want. It's a pretty good console racer when you look past a couple of things. I went ahead a bought it new for $8 on Amazon.Inuyasha wrote:I'm pretty much done with this game. It could be so much better but the controls really suck. I think I'll do that. I saw the game in the bargain bin at CC for about 9 bucks.
Only $5 dollars that's a great deal, much better than mine. I'm glad your enjoying it.Inuyasha wrote:Went to circuit city and they had the game brand new for $5. All their xbox games (not newly released) are $5!!
So far like 06 about 1000x better than 08. You're right that it's like 05 with the team control stuff.
I've hit a wall in the Poconos. I am trying to get the first badge which requires winning in the Poconos. I have spent quite a bit of time practicing the track trying to figure out how to pick up some speed. The best I can come up with qualifies me for the back of the pack even on easy. Even if I were to start up front, I am at least a second behind the front runners. I can run consistent times, and I have done some tuning to fix problems, specifically being loose on the turn exit. The AI seems to be able to brake late and accelerate early. I have tried many different techniques, but just can't seem to match the AI.
Any suggestions?

The frame rate in the 360 conversion of NASCAR 06 is a bit shaky in spots although still acceptable. I hope they improve it in a future update like was done with Forza.Rodster wrote:It's a step back because of the Team Control crap but you don't have to use it if you don't want. Well add me to the list. I swapped my copy of Nascar 08 for Madden 08. It wasn't so much the controller issues it was the dumbass AI that ticked me off. I would drive a nice line and the AI just had no idea I was even there so i'd find myself getting pushed off the track or getting rear ended. It got too frustrating.
Hopefully next year. In the meantime back to NR2003.
