I see them incorporating some sort of "legends" mode into Madden '09, offering more money to the retired players than Take-Two can. I figure T2 only signed likeness rights for 2K8 and not beyond, right?
It's time for Take-Two to stop trying to appease the NFL to get that license and just let the community step up. Create APF with a WE-like editor and let the community do the rest. Even have a logo editor. Let us create any legend, any team, any player. Until Take-two realizes this, they are going to be destined to getting screwed by Madden.

You honestly think Take 2 is in ANY financial position to do anything you mention above? The NFL is only interested in revenues and profits from it's licensing agreements just as the PGA TOUR, NASCAR, etc. The NFL is especially protective of its licensing, so unless Take 2 could present an indisputable case, I don't see it happening.JRod wrote:It's time for Take-Two to step trying to appease the NFL to get that license and just let the community step up. The last time I looked, Take 2 was in horrible financial shape and I just don't see them mounting any sort of effort unless they have outside backing to do so.
What does TT's financial position have to do with packaging a deep editor in their next football game?DivotMaker wrote:You honestly think Take 2 is in ANY financial position to do anything you mention above? They only signed them for this game, not additional years if you believe the mod at OS who got an early look at the game with 2K.Slumberland wrote:EA's take:

I know I am in the minority here, but I don't think 2K had any intentions of doing another game after this unless it was a surprise hit that sold a lot of copies. They won;t come out and say that and kill potential sales, but that's the feeling I get.

Take Two as a whole may not be in bad shape, but their sports division has been doing terrible. Companies fold portions of their business that bleed money...especially when they aren't giant companies like Sony or Microsoft.spooky157 wrote:You're talking about TT folding? I guess I never considered that to be possible...not with GTA IV coming out. They might not be at the level of EA or THQ but if we (Atari) can still be in business, I assume TT would be fine.

I was responding mainly to the comment that Take 2 should appease the NFL to get the NFL licensing or remove EA's exclusive license. I don't think they are in any position to do any such thing. If I am not mistaken, didn't they just have a complete overhaul of their board of directors due to the company struggling financially? It is common knowledge on the 'net that Take 2 is struggling financially and they are in no position to take on EA or have the resources to convince the NFL to drop the exclusive license for their football game. I may be wrong, but if Take 2 doesn't turn themselves around financially, they won't be in any position to bid for the next NFL license agreement....spooky157 wrote:What does TT's financial position have to do with packaging a deep editor in their next football game?DivotMaker wrote:You honestly think Take 2 is in ANY financial position to do anything you mention above? Sad but true. How I long for MS to buy the 2K sports line.DivotMaker wrote:I was responding mainly to the comment that Take 2 should appease the NFL to get the NFL licensing or remove EA's exclusive license. In light of TT / 2K / Rockstar you guys might want to read the above. It's interesting but cry me a river about working late.

Oh, I totally agree with that. No way on Earth can Take 2 wrestle the NFL exclusive license from EA.DivotMaker wrote:I was responding mainly to the comment that Take 2 should appease the NFL to get the NFL licensing or remove EA's exclusive license. But if Take 2 can legally include an editor as powerful as the one in WE or maybe even Forza, then I think they should. Take 2 will never even sniff that NFL license again, I would think.
Yep, I think the season mode even has a little character to it. CPU teams do have a different flavor. The LA Legends are crazy good with Elway, Lott, Singletary, Rice amoung others.MizzouRah wrote:REALLY glad I bought this game. Yeah it lacks a franchise mode, but damn is it fun to play!
The attribute system just works and while its not perfect you get a sense of the different styles of legends. Who would have thought a ratings system without numbers works? (I'm sure numbers are there we just can't see them. )

Appreciate the invite, been working many long hours plus my gold account expired a month ago. We're going on vacation next week, so I don't plan on activating my account until mid-August.Danimal wrote:We need one more for the tourney I set up.MizzouRah wrote:REALLY glad I bought this game. Maybe the next one if you do another one?
The stadiums even seem huge to me, which is great. There are so many ways 2k can expand this game. I really hope they are working on 2k9 right now.JRod wrote:Yep, I think the season mode even has a little character to it. CPU teams do have a different flavor. Glad to hear you're getting some enjoyment out of this title, Todd....MizzouRah wrote:REALLY glad I bought this game. Yeah it lacks a franchise mode, but damn is it fun to play!
Dan, believe it or not, I'm really looking forward to getting a few games in with you when I get back from vacation. It's a long football season, my friend...hopefully we can get some games in with either this or Madden. I respect your football knowledge, even if to this point we've had different preferences in video football games.
Count me in as loving this game as well.
Seems like the nice solid of engine of 2k5 with some nice tweaks here and there.
Little things I love:
-How the coaches on the sidelines try to slow down opposing players as they run out of bounds towards their guys.
-The custom camera. I have it set a little off centered and it looks amazing. Gives you a better sense of depth.
Everyone here has captured the experience pretty well I think...

I don't know if we have a different preference, I have played about 35 - 40 games of APF, only about a dozen of NCAA.GTHobbes wrote:Dan, believe it or not, I'm really looking forward to getting a few games in with you when I get back from vacation. I just don't think it's anywhere near as perfect as some make it out to be. I find i can enjoy both games for what they offer. I do love that there is an actual coach mode in APF, I like playing the game like this sometimes.

Never thought I would get much out of this game, but I really like what they've done with this title and without an NFL license.GTHobbes wrote:Glad to hear you're getting some enjoyment out of this title, Todd....MizzouRah wrote:REALLY glad I bought this game. It's sad what this licensing has done to our love of sports video games. I would love to see a 2k NFL football game and on the flip side, a next gen MVP baseball game.
