I'd take Jagr. Hell yes, I'd take Jagr. I don't think MacT would coddle him or take much sh*t from him.Sudz wrote:who is saying that?tjung0831 wrote:How would Jagr look playing in Edmonton? That seems to be the big rumor of the day...
pk? i bet pk HATES jagr.
probably thinks he is fat.
Why would the Rangers want to deal Jagr?

I don't think he'd be a good fit in Edmonton, for two reasons:
1. The Oilers have become a grinding, mucking team despite the fast ice in Edmonton. Not Jagr's style.
2. From what I've read, Jagr likes the bright lights of New York. Edmonton is about the furthest from that in the NHL.
That said, I'd welcome him to Rexall with open arms as long as he gives an honest effort. The Oil needs a legitimate offensive threat. Ales Hemsky isn't it.
Take care,
PK

The Blues have resigned free agent winger Lee Stempniak to a 3 year $7.5 mil deal. The contract breaks down as follows
1st year - $1.5mil
2nd year - $2.5mil
3rd year - $3.5mil
This is a great deal for the Blues...Stempniak could be the biggest bargain in the NHL as he should be hitting the 40 goal mark by year 2.
The Blues also traded for Bruins goalie Hannu Toivanen yesterday shipping out prospect Carl Soderberg.

Naaaw. G. Bettman wouldn't want that. He rather expand in the UK before he moves any team back to Canada.Sudz wrote:so....is nashville moving?
f*** KC.....they need to be in hamilton or another team in toronto.
Nice raise for OTT's keeper & tough guy R. Emery. Almost 10 million for a three year term.

What was wrong with the old one? This is just a slight "artiste" revision that is an excuse to sell more merchandise.

Kevin Lowe continues to try and ruin the NHL. Paul, are you ok paying Penner $4mil a year because I don't think the Ducks are going to match this one....i'm not sure they can. They seem to have guys coming up that can replace Penner.

Yes, I'm comfortable with paying Penner $4 million per season. He's one of the top young power forwards in the NHL, a good fit for the Oil. He scored 29 goals last season and is a pounder on the wall.tjung0831 wrote:Kevin Lowe continues to try and ruin the NHL. Please explain to me why Kevin Lowe is ruining the NHL. The Oilers are well under the cap and have stockpiled draft picks and young talent, so this is another way for them to do business, especially when Edmonton is a less-than-desirable location for unrestricted free agents. Losing three picks isn't a big blow.
It's Kevin Lowe's job to improve the hockey club within the NHL rules and the team's budget. This offer does all of that.
If Anaheim can pay often-injured, locker-room troublemaker Todd Bertuzzi $4 million per season, why can't the Oilers do the same for Penner? Roman Hamrlik hasn't scored more than 12 goals in a season in six years yet is getting $5 million per season from Montreal. The Kings are paying Visnovsky nearly $6 million per season -- Lubomir Visnovsky, for Christ's sake!
So what makes this deal so much more heinous?
Take care,
PK

yeah he's playing by legal rules but you don't think it's dirty pool? When he signed Vanek to that offer sheet he knew that Buffalo was matching regardless and he still did it. That was only to screw up the Sabres payroll. TSN mentioned after the Vanek situation about this being a dirty tactic that the league is going to have to look into and make some changes.pk500 wrote:Yes, I'm comfortable with paying Penner $4 million per season. Is D. Penner worth 4 million per? No. Does Lowe have the right to make such a five year deal? Absolutely. It's a business. Is he ruining the NHL? I wouldn't say that, there are many GM's ahead of him that's made more mistakes in the past. But EDM needs a forward badly, the whole world knows that since the departure of R. Smyth and in the calculations of Oilers' fans, they hope that a younger, bigger forward in Penner brings a better investment than the veteran Smyth.
Does the extra offer have anything to do with people not wanting to play in EDM? Perhaps. I can see B. Burke about to blow a fuse anytime...

I expect Burke to sit on this one for a week and make Lowe sweat it out.10spro wrote:Is D. Penner worth 4 million per? No. Does Lowe have the right to make such a five year deal? Absolutely. Considering Burke fleeced Lowe's pocket in the Pronger deal, this is payback. I shed no tears for Burke
Pronger for Lupul, Smid and some draft picks is one of the most lopsided deals in the last decade in the NHL.
Again, I feel zero sorrow for Burke or the Ducks. They won the Cup in June, didn't they?
Take care,

As 10s said, it's business. Any GM can do it since the rules allow it.tjung0831 wrote:yeah he's playing by legal rules but you don't think it's dirty pool? If the practice seems unethical, then it's up to the NHL to correct that, not Kevin Lowe.
Lowe was shut out from landing a top forward during the UFA frenzy of the first week of July. What is he supposed to do, sit back and say, "Well, fans, I didn't do my job, and I guess we're just going to suck this year."
Lowe not only is fighting for the Oilers' future, he's fighting to save his job. If he landed no free agents this summer, he would have been toast. He's under tremendous pressure from the Oilers' fans and area media to get the team back into the playoffs after the magical run in spring 2006.
Take care,
PK

Interesting that the Penner offer sheet could accelerate Niedermayer's decision to retire. The Ducks will need the dough to re-sign Penner:

The Kings are paying Visnovsky nearly $6 million per season -- Lubomir Visnovsky, for Christ's sake!
You obviously haven't seen the guy play much. He was 4th in goals among defensemen and tied for 8th in points, and that was in only 69 games. The guy gives it his all every shift. He's a smart player. He's more than just an offensive dman. And it's 5.65 mil a year.
Oh, and the reason why Lowe is an ass is because he's prematurely escalating salaries in the NHL without even benefiting from it. He struck out on his first offer and will likely strike out on this one. Ultimately he's just hurting the NHL. Whether the rules allow him to or not is irrelevant. He's still an idiot for making these offers. He's going to lose his job, it's just a matter of when, not if.

The guy has missed 75 games over the last five seasons, so a hell of a lot of good his talent will do when he's in the press box.LAking wrote:The Kings are paying Visnovsky nearly $6 million per season -- Lubomir Visnovsky, for Christ's sake!

Plus I don't understand Lombardi signing Preissing to be the Kings' PP point man at nearly $3 million per season. Isn't that Visnovsky's job?
Or is Lombardi signing Preissing as an injury fill-in for when his $6 Million Man inevitably gets hurt?
Please. Give me a f*cking break. The salary cap for the first season after the lockout was $39 million per team. Just two seasons later, and it's up to $50.3 million.LAking wrote:Oh, and the reason why Lowe is an ass is because he's prematurely escalating salaries in the NHL without even benefiting from it. You can thank Gary Bettman and the NHLPA for the rise in salaries, not Kevin Lowe.
Let's say Lombardi was shut out in the UFA market in key areas of need. Would you want him to sit back and do nothing? If the Kings were in the same position as the Oilers, would you feel a bit differently if Lombardi was tendering the offer sheets?
Of course you would.
