Is there a special way to lock on to targets with missles or am I missing something?
Guess you didn't play the last couple iterations. They are BORING...just the same old same old. It doesn't deviate much from the demo at all.
You lock on by changing your target (press Y) and then get into missile range. It'll turn red when you lockon. If you can't lock on, you'll need to switch to guns.

I haven't played Ace Combat in a LONG time, thanks.
As you might expect, I'm interested in it for the MP options, not so much the single player. Not only will there be adversarial modes of some kind, but there is also supposed to be some co-op stuff in there. I really enjoyed some of the missions in Blazing Angels when we did them co-op, so I can only hope this one will have something as good as that or better. Of course the new Blazing Angles might be more my flavor even if it is less realistic. At least they're up front about that and jumping in with both feet.

I agree with DB on this. The gameplay itself borders on tedious in this series to me. But, like him, I'm probably spoiled by the PC sims.
I guess I'll have to dissent. I've loved this series for a long time, and this one is no exception. It gives me what I'm looking for-combat in the skies in those beasts-without making me wrestle with what I don't (PC sim heaviness).
In short, I want my flight combat to be Top Gun, not real life. So for that, there's not a better series on the consoles...
I'm enjoying the Ace Combat demo for the same reason Teal is, but it'd be a little more interesting if the enemy planes were capable of firing a shot that doesn't miss me.
Is the Stuntman:Ignition demo up on the US Marketplace? It's been on the UK one for nearly a week, apparently, but I only got hold of it last night. It's a lot of fun without being anywhere near as annoying as the original could be. The handling is easy to get to grips with, graphically it's not stunning but it's pretty enough with no evident slowdown, and the one time I got lost mid-level was down to my own incompetence rather than the game. I'm pretty certain I'll be picking this one up on release.
By the way, has anyone else tried Outrun 2: Coast2Coast on a 360 since the back-compat update came out? I've waited an age for them to make it back-compat and when they do, the road ahead doesn't bloody draw in properly. Its predecessor Outrun 2 runs perfectly, though.

I'm with you Teal. The Ace Combat series was one of the main reasons I kept a PS2 around. I never found it boring and I thought the missions and storyline were fairly interesting and kept me going. Also, you can up the difficulty if it is too easy for you.

Yes, it's pretty cool. It is definitely a rental for me though because it seems that it can get pretty tedious as well. Interesting design though...
I enjoyed the PS2 version quite a bit, and thought it was underrated, though I can understand why the 'keep doing the same thing until you get it right' gameplay is not for everyone. Looks like a next gen upgrade to basically the same thing.
Man, I wonder how much more product would move if MS allowed some games to be priced at $40 or so. There have been a LOT of games lately that have seemed better suited for a lower price at retail launch. This, to me, is probably another one.
Enjoyed those games of Carcassonne last night. I am seriously addicted to that game. Probably going to get smoked in the DSP NCAA league as I spend too much time play Carc. when I should be practicing NCAA!

Send me an invite to play any time!
Al
Yeah, I'm hooked too.
I'm usually good for 4-5 games a night. I play it often when I'm on the stationary bike, as it makes the time fly by. In fact, most of the time when I'm playing it lately I'm on the bike.
If you don't mind playing without a headset (because I'm not going to pant in any ears around here )you can shoot me an invite any time you see me on.
There's a Moto GP '07 demo up on the UK Marketplace - not sure if you lot have it but the demo contains 2 laps of Laguna Seca with Nicky Hayden so it's a pretty safe bet that it'll turn up. The AI are set to dumb so it's difficult to learn anything too much about the racing, but it feels an awful lot like playing last year's version from what time I've had with it so far.
One thing that's bugging me with it is that the demo is in widescreen, and my television isn't. My eyes aren't the greatest either, so there are some things on the HUD that I can barely read.

I'm guessing I might be able to get Zeppo and Scoop to give up a night of Shadowrun to try this out.

Holy cow! It finally arrived! Wasn't this stuff supposed to show up in, like, February? I'll definitely check it out, no doubt. New co-op challenges? I'm there! You know I still love that game. I wonder if Secret base is the same as one of the add-on maps from SC:CT. It was pretty small and was not my favorite, but hey, new maps are new maps.

As did I, although the hammer toss has proven to be an immovable object in my effort to get through all events.
Watching dudes online, it seems there is a 'sweet spot' to the throw it right before it starts spinning really fast. Do it too early, it doesn't go far enough, too late & it's a guessing game. That said I still suck at it for the most part (I did make to the high jump once!)
