Just got Madden 07 (360) for a song. I figure I should be a year behind so I don't have to pay through the nose for a roster/mini-game update.

No, but you see the same teams and get to get a sense of the graphics using a pretty similar comparison. I didn't expect some huge jump in the visuals, but I agree with Danimal that 2008 looks a little smoother and had some nicer animations. The blur effect on the crowd doesn't look as overdone in 2008.

I also agree.

The slowdown was the part of last years Madden that had me prefering NCAA.

The blocking is very impressive. (As was the pass blocking on the Titans-Cowboys video.)

It looks like Madden really did a lot under the hood this season. It's a little depressing that they did all that work and are still going to have the terrible radio announcer, but there it is.

Here is a condensed version of the gameplay that was in the background during the IGN Ortiz interview:

Looks very good... possibly enough for me to get over the lack of playable camera angles...we'll see.

Yes it does...

I dont care about the camera angles so much if the one they give us works.

I obviously can't confirm this, but I read a preview somehwere which referenced multiple camera angles. I guess we will find out for sure after community day.

Those trailers are always encouraging, but I'm not sure how much of it is real gameplay.

I was also a little troubled by so many receivers trying to catch the ball one handed. I guess that's their gimmick for this year.

The thing that bothers me the most is the game could be the greatest football game of all time in terms of gameplay, but the God awful radio announcer has already killed my excitement for it. It just doesn't feel like a football game without a 2 man booth.

I feel the same way about the radio guy. In real life I prefer the NFL game to the college game but when the football games come out I always end up playing the college game more than Madden and a lot of it has to do with the presentation. At least if they are going to have a radio announcer they could at least have him sound like he is broadcasting on the fm dial or satellite radio instead of a crappy mono am station.

Looks like digital football on the ps3 this year will only be at 30 fps, while on the 360 all 3 games will be at 60 fps.

http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3160709
We have confirmed the Xbox 360 versions of Madden NFL 08 (August), All-Pro Football 2K8 (July), and NCAA Football 08 (July) will run at 60 frames per second, whereas the PS3 editions are locked at just 30fps. In the simplest of terms, this means that the 360 versions will run smoother and faster, and you'll have an easier time noticing subtle animations.

While we haven't had the opportunity to see the difference with EA's titles (the publisher hasn't sent us PS3 builds of either), All-Pro Football 2K8 definitely runs better on Xbox 360.

Yep, it's pretty clear that the 360 is going to be the lead console for this generation, just as the PS2 was the last time around, and games will be optimized for it first and then ported over to the PS3. As someone with no love for the Sony hype machine, I think it's a pretty funny development. That said, it's inexcusable for companies not to be able to deliver equivalent experiences on the two consoles.

Especially from a company like EA. You would think they were struggling to make a dime the way the bastards acted. The way the butchered some of the ports to the Xbox was pathetic.

Looks like Playstation ...Its your turn for the 'we dont give a f***... lazy ass treatment

That's why Microsoft was so hell bent getting out of the gate first. They knew most of the important devs would use the 360 as the platform to build multiplatform games. They were in Sony's shoes last time around with the Xbox because the PS2 launched first.

Still EA makes enough money, has enough talent to avoid this sort of thing.

Since it's not just EA Sports and the fact that VC is having the same issue, Maybe...... just MAYBE the problem lies in Sony's product? Maybe it's just too difficult to program for and it's taking longer for the developers to maximize its power.

I'm sure down the road this won't be an issue, but since EA's titles are not the only football games running at 30 FPS let's not hold them accountable and then give 2K Sports a free pass. That's just bunk IMO.

Im not giving 2k a free pass...They are also guilty of taking the easy way out but they are not the same as EA and should not be treated exactly the same. EA has the resources where this garbage should never happen

I also point to EA as they were very guilty of this last generation....
I remember UBI last gen making games like Splinter Cell for the XBOX first to maximize their OWN products quality and then porting back to the lesser system.
2k also made Their game for the XBOX first last generation.

Yep, it's not just EA and I agree, maybe the ps3 is a PITA to develop games on?

Sucks for ps3 owners, last year's NCAA football game was hard to control because of the framerate, imho.. while NHL 07 is manageable.

Seems like stuff like this is always the case though... great baseball on the ps3, football will be better on the 360. We can never have it all, it always pick and choose which system suits your gaming style.

I can't EA a free pass either based on the last generation as well. The Xbox was clearly the most power system of the three and yet most EA Sports games suffered from framerate and other issues that did not effect the PS2. ;)

That's why I can't give them a pass. Wrt 2K I do give them a free pass because they don't have the money or staff that EA has so they are limited in what they can do. I expect 2K to fix the problem where my impressions of EA is they don't care until either the masses complain or the competition forces them to do something about the problem.

You have to consider their priorites. With the ps3 being last in sales, I can see why they and 2k might not have had the time to get the game up to par this year on it.

Good point but that shouldn't be an excuse for EA because it would only prove they only care about the bottom line and not quality. They have the money and staff so this doesn't happen.

The PS3 has plenty of games already running at 60FPS including The Show.
