Dreadful goalkeeping from Marseille's Carrasso and asinine refereeing saw Marseille fall 4-2 away to West Ham in a nail-biter. While Lee Bowyer should be praised for his man-of-the-match performance with 2 goals and an assist, most of the crowd leaving the Bernabeu will only remember the negatives.
Marseille opened the scoring in the 8th minute when Niang ran onto a deft Cisse through pass and slotted cooly home past Robert Green for his 9th goal of the season. Marseille were in command and should have doubled their lead in the 25th minute had it not been for a refereeing blunder. Cisse's close range shot was bobbled by Green and the ball clearly trickled past the line before a West Ham defender cleared it. Amazingly the ref waved play on, much to the protests of Marseille and the amazement (and relief) of the West Ham players.
Within 10 minutes Marseille were down 2-1 with Ashton finishing from a Tevez reverse pass, and then poor keeping by Carrasso saw a Tevez volley trickle through his legs. Niang scored his 10th from a corner in the dying seconds of the half to send the teams in level at the break.
The second half started off slowly but a bursting run from Bowyer in the 62nd minute changed all of that as he received a pass from Benayoun, held off two defenders and ripped a 20 yard rocket into the top corner.
Minutes later Marseille were down to ten men as the last defender brought down Bowyer on a breakaway. Despite being down a man, Marseille were potent on the counterattack with Ribery, Cisse and Niang causing the West Ham defense all sorts of problems.
However, another moment of madness, this time from Carrosso saw West Ham wrap up the points. Reo-Coker sent in a speculative shot that Carosso decided to theatrically dive to save and in the process of getting up, with no pressure around him, he stepped out of bounds.
From the resulting corner, Mullins found Bowyer who headed home at the near-post with aplomb.
Great game Met, too bad about the blind ref!! Perhaps you should ask lsdean if he wants to trade Lehman for your goalie

Guys:
A reminder that the original deadline for the completion of Season Ten is this Sunday, June 10.
However, I will be out of town through the weekend and will be returning home early Tuesday AM, so I am going to add a week to the season.
This means the new, official deadline will be next Sunday, June 17. We should all be able to complete our games by then. Any games not completed by the end of that day will be decided by forfeit so that we can move on to the team selection process for Season Eleven.
Speaking of which, who thinks they will be interested in continuing into Season Eleven?

In other news, West Ham United won promotion to the DSP Premier League with a 4-1 win over Real Madrid.
Victorious manager, Macca said after the match; "After FOUR gruelling seasons we've finally made it to the top tier....if the league doesn't get enough teams for at least two divisions next season I'm going to be pissed....and cry."

Well, Cloud is gone and out of internet while he moves, Sully is without a 360 and has been for some time I think, so that just leaves me, Rob (with the baby), Naples, and NYIsles who I think has given up the ghost on the game as a whole. But yeah, Div I is not helping with keeping up the momentum of this league. Maybe 10 seasons is all we have in us? I know I still enjoy the game and want to continue, but it's hard to tell if we can keep this going.
UC Sampdoria 1 : 0 Aston Villa FC
In a real snoozer of a game, Sampdoria avenged their 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Villa with a narrow 1-0 win at home against the English side. Bonazzoli, the star #9 for Sampdoria, finally scored his first goal of the season in the first win of the season for the Italians. Neither team played well after a long break from online play, and despite facing 7 shots on goal while only earning 2 themselves, Sampdoria escaped with the full share of the points thanks to the classy finish from the striker that completed a move created from the pressure of Ruben Olivera and a final pass from Flachi into the box.
