I mentioned this about 3 pages back. i own one of these and it works fine. Comes with 2 cables as well. So i guess you could charge two on here and 2 on your ps3 if you had 4.grtwhtsk wrote:How about this? http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=802569wco81 wrote:Six Axis charger.

Only about $12 in Japan. Maybe it will make it over to the US.

Posted this in OS since I was having trouble getting in here a couple of mins ago.
I was at Gamestop last night and they had a refurbished PS3 (60gb) for $499.99.
They offered a 30 day warranty. I asked if Sony would honor the 1yr warranty they give new systems but no one could answer this.
I asked them to open the packaging and the console was in excellent condition. The controller had some wear but it looked almost like new.
You guys think it's a good price for refurbished console?
I almost pulled the trigger but bailed out at the end.
Thing is, for some reason I can't get to pull the trigger on the 60gb for $600. It's like a mental block that won't allow me to buy a console for more than $500. I've been asking around stores if they have one of the 20gb versions lying around but no go.

It's kind've funny when you put it like that...Most people will spend $1k-$2,500 for a pc or laptop and think nothing of it but will have problems with the PS3's price. In reality, I do a lot more on my PS3 than I do on my home laptop (surf the net), which has 20 GB and cost me over $2000 5 or 6 years ago. I think $599 would be a lot to pay if we were talking about the Sega Genesis or any of the other systems that have come out in the past. But I really do feel like I'm getting my money's worth with the PS3...kind've even see it as a bargain really.
Damn!! How much do they charge for that??They offered a 30 yr warranty.
Seriously, if I was in a different place (not an early 360 adopter) I would seriously consider the PS3. But at this point -at almost 2 years in - I have too many peripherals and games to jump ship. However, I imagine that I will most likely end up doing the opposite this generation of what I did last gen - that is starting with a MS product and ending with a Sony product. But that will be in a few years after a few price drops and after my extended warranty (and my 360) do down for good.
Since the only thing I use online for is downloading demos and since I don't care about online gaming, the reliability of the PS3 is very appealing. As is the ability to play PS2 and PS1 games. Microsoft basically ignored sports games in their backward compatibility approach, and since I am a sports gamer, this sucked.

If you're buying with a credit card which would extend the warranty, typically double it, they may not cover refurb or used products.
Another consideration.
Well E3 and other game shows are coming up so there's opportunity for price cuts.
About the only reason to get it now is for Blu-Ray and other media playback and the likelihood that they will remove the PS2 chips for hardware backwards compatibility sooner or later.
Well I guess some people have taken the plunge because of The Show. NCAA is coming up soon too.

Strange,
Gamestop and EB both have the 20gb version in stock online.
I may jump on this.

I was up against the same price point fear, did the same justification exercise that Hobbes mentioned, and then caved for the 60 GB. In retrospect I'm very glad I did as I think I am already past the 20 GB mark. Don't forget that some games install a multi-GB cache, like MLB. Plus, for me, using the PS3 for a media center is plausible for the first time and consider the fact that while there aren't a lot of demos out there, the ones that are generally offer pretty good value. For example I wish I would have just stuck with the excellent demo of Motorstorm, as the full game really doesn't offer all that much more.

Agreed, especially if you are looking at the PS3 in the long term view of things....sportdan30 wrote:Javi,
If I was in your position, I'd go for the refurbished 60 gb. However, I'd make sure to call Sony to confirm they'll honor the 1 year warranty. Even if the Game Stop employees said yes, I'd still want reassurance.

Does anyone here actually have the 20gb version?
If so, do they feel like they run out of storage space quickly?

1. HD space obviously
2. Memory card readers
3. Most importantly for me personally is the lack of built-in wireless connectivity.....
To me, the first and third features are well worth the extra $100....
I don't think it supports VGA.
Some Blu-Ray movies might be supported at 1080p over component. Now that it has upscaling though, and upscaling DVD players only output in HD over DVI or HDMI, there may be a digital restriction there.
HDMI-to-DVI cables can be had just as cheaply as HDMI cables online. No conversion needed because the video portion is electrically the same. However, HDMI outputs audio whereas DVI doesn't carry audio.
So in that case, you can set the PS3 in the XMB to output audio through the normal multi-out and then use the composite connectors which comes with the PS3 to carry stereo audio. You have to buy optical cables if you want to use that option.

Just in case some people have forgotten, you can hook up almost any regular laptop hard drive(or even desktop with an adapter) to you PS3. You could get a 20gb and if you run out of room down the road you could upgrade to whatever size you see fit. You would just have to backup your old saves before installing the new drive. Can you do this on a USB flash drive?
Of course if wireless is important to you then get the 60gb model.

I had no idea that the PS3 was wireless. Now I know why this black brick cost so much.wco81 wrote:Yeah you need a wireless network.
So you would need a wireless router or access point.
Or you can see if you can get a signal from your neighbors.![]()
But if you go in the XMB, you can configure your network settings and choose between wired or wireless.
Anyway I have a home network and it found it no problems. Much easier than setting up another XP to find the network.
I'm impressed with all Sony packed into the machine. Too bad they don't seem to have a clue how to market this thing.
I think I'm going to buy games that I play offline for the PS3 and online games where DSP'ers play on the 360. Try to make the 360 last as long as I can.

The 1.8 firmware update has made the wireless capabilities of the PS3 very impressive. My PS3 now can stream any MP3/WMA, picture or video on my PC's hard drive...wirelessly. Plus I can access any of those files via the internet with my PSP from ANYWHERE there is an internet hot spot/connection. Very cool. Plus the Blu Ray player now upscales DVDs and PS1/2 games. Now if Sony would just come out with some games.

How do you get that all set up Diablo? I was able to get music to stream but movies would not show up. If it was a small file it would but if it was a full length movie I converted for the PSP it wouldn't. I'd love to be able to store movies on my PC in the basement and stream them to my PSP in my bedroom.

You need something on your PC end to get it to work. Do you have Media Connect installed? If it is installed and running it should detect your PS3. Then your computer just shows up under the various XMB bars.
One thing that had me stumped is even thought my PS3 connected it couldn't see any files. So i had to go into media Connect and make sure the folders i was sharing were allowing my PS3 to access them.
Having said all of that, media connect blows for streaming videos to the PS3. I don't know why it sucks on ther PS# but works flawlessly on the 360.
i actually sent wco a PM asking for some suggestions on this since he seems to know his stuff. Maybe instead of responding there he can do so here.

The DLNA software for Windows which I've heard of are WMP 11, Nero and TVersity.
I've not used them as I have my media on a Mac.
My understanding is that DLNA is a very unsettled standard so different implementations don't give you a consistent experience.
There are some hardware devices like Network Attached Storage (NAS) appliances which have DLNA server software built-in. So if you store your media on these things, it may be able to stream media to the PS3.

Yep, I am happy with my purchase. It's not an inexpensive machine. And I think the MS has a better design and seems to be better thought out.jLp vAkEr0 wrote:Well I just joined the PS3 club.
I played a couple of innings of MLB. Just pure baseball.
I'm downloading update 1.8.
I rented Casino Royale(Blue Ray of course) but I'll watch it later.
Yet, I can see the PS3 as being a strong machine. Too bad this generation will be a lot like the XBox/PS2 generation. Games will be made for the 360 and ported over. So it will look exactly the same.
Only think I don't like is the controller. I think MS's controller is fantastic.
This year, I think I'm going to get all my offline games for the PS3. Any game I want to take online I will get for the 360.
