My needs are different than most around here probably, but after 2 months I'd give the PS3 a solid A or maybe even an A+. I do very little online gaming, so I really don't have the same complaint that others do. The games (The Show and MotorSport) and downloads (GT HD) that I do have and play are awesome, the blu-ray player is awesome (I've already bought close to 10 movies), game load times are good to great (The Show's load times are VERY short), the PSP connectivity rocks, the media sharing (once I figure out how to use it) will be great, and the frequent firmware updates will surely keep me happy for the next couple of years. I find myself using the PS3 on a daily basis while the 360, on the other hand, has been sitting like a brick in my entertainment system for the past 2 months. I wonder if Microsoft is going to feel any pressure to come out with its next, next gen system sooner than it would have liked.

Question.

My HDTV doesn't support 1080p. Tops at 1080i.

What happens when a game written in 1080p is played in a tv like mine?

Does the PS3 downscale to 1080i, 720p or 480p?

Since like 90% of the HDTVs in households are 1080i, 720p, then you can probably assume that the PS3 will scale them down.

I think the console that is played the most is all about the games.

Would I get a PS3 for Forza probably not. But I'll play it on the 360. Now would I get a PS3 if WE11 is what we've all been asking for? Yes I would.

For all the 360 has done wrong, it still has the games. There's no GOW, GRAW, Oblivion (not just a 360 port), among others. Now I could see DSP migrate over to the PS3 if these types of games were on the PS3. But since the landsape is barren what's the point. Some of you get a PS3 for "The Show" but I don't think that's enough for some to justify spending 600 plus 60 for the console.

But if I had the money I would have a Ps3 along with "the show" and F1.

You'd select 1080i as the output on the PS3. Your TV wouldn't accept 1080p signals.

Can't recall though if there are 1080p games coming out. Maybe Lair.

Oh you can download Tekken Resurrection for $20. That is suppose to be 1080p. Also Ridge Racer is 1080p and maybe Virtua Tennis. I think there are playable demos of both on the Playstation Store. So is the GT HD demo. So you can see how those look on your TV.

I *never* thought I'd say this, but the PS3 has a real good chance of "winning" this console round with *me* as long as it doesn't break. The Show and F1 are friggin' awesome as is Blu-ray. I'm not a total graphics whore, but I think F1 and GTHD blow the pants off of Forza 2 graphically. It's scary how good these PS3 games are going to look. If Sony can develop even a half-decent online service then the PS3 has a good chance of being my favorite console, hell my favorite electronic device, ever. The games *will* come.

I love the concept of the PSP/PS3 connectivity, although there isn't much I'd use it for right now.

If you are going to blow over $600 for a toy (luckily I had some stock options sitting around waiting to be exercised...LOL) then you better love it. Right now, I love it!

Sony just needs to keep the ports of 360 games coming; achieving "me too" status with the 360 for a few more months. Then HOME and a price cut will hit that will send the PS3 surging over the 360.

As an owner of all 3 systems, I'm fairly comfortable saying that while the 360 currently has the games and the online advantage, the PS3 is a dramatically better piece of hardware. Blu-Ray, built in Wi-Fi and media card readers, Bluetooth, Quiet operation, reliably and sexy...The PS3 is what it was promised to be. It feels like a piece of high-end gear anyone would be happy to have in thier entertainment center, while casting the 360 as a 'toy'.

I'm very happy with my purchase and the online system is growing on me (as I discover more), so that I have figured out how to have an XBox Live like experience in terms of seeing when friends are online and getting into a game.

I'm getting closer and closer to selling off my 360.

I came across this thread a couple of weeks ago when I was researching the PS3. I finally decided to pick one up last Friday. After a couple of days with the system, I am pretty happy. There are a few things I do not like - having to keep the system on to charge the controller - and I have no idea how to get my iTunes library on the system (or even if it can play the default format).

I have started posting some impressions and early thoughts about the system. These may not be useful for those of you with a PS3, but they may be helpful if you are trying to decide if a PS3 is right for you.

So far I have been very impressed with Formula One Championship Edition. I think this one is going to work for "Sunday drivers" (just saw that thread) that happen to like F1 cars, as well as simulation fans. I started messing around with the Sixaxis controls last night - very responsive. In fact, I do not think this is something Sony just "threw" into the controller. I could be wrong, but it just seems to be done too well to be an after thought.

In case you are not interested in going to the site, here is part of my F1 post:

"I then changed some of the options; I adjusted some of the driver aids, I turned on damage, enabled fuel and tire use consumption, setting up Scott Speed for an eight lap Indy race. I rallied from back of the pack to a solid fifth place before my disastrous pit stop half way through the race. My stop took a slow 18 seconds; I had some wing damage, and I did not quickly respond to the pit sequence (you are presented with a series of buttons to press). I left pit lane in 15th place, but I managed to pull off a seventh place finish after some, shall we say, overly aggressive driving. The end result was a lot of fun."

I am looking forward to seeing how some of my PS2 and PSX games look with the new up scale options (yes, I still play some old games). Last night I setup some memory cards, and did a transfer via the PS3 memory card transfer thing-a-ma-bob. I played GT4 for a few mins; honestly could not tell a big improvement in graphics, but I am not really have an eye for that sort of thing.

I am really looking forward to seeing what EA does with Madden, NCAA Football, NASCAR, and even FIFA. At $60 a pop, I think I am going to have to scale back on purchases, but all of these could be worth picking up.

Sorry to ramble so much, but my PS3 has started me down this road again.

The new PS3 and PSP updates are pretty damn nice. The DVD/PS2/PS1 upscaling is great but connecting my PSP via the internet from anywhere is pretty damn cool. I can access all my music, pics and video files on my network (not just the PS3) from any hot spot. Very cool. If anyone is a huge traveler with their job these updates are simply put - money.

Jcalvert, you can plug your SixAxis to a PC with a USB port.

Another thing which will probably work is to use an iPod charger which has a USB port, then plug it into the wall.

As for iTunes, you can stream your library to it with a DNLA server.

I have a LaCie NAS which has a DLNA server. I copied my iTunes library to it and then turned on the "media server" and my PS3 found the NAS device.

DLNA implementations aren't consistent however. The LaCie won't index photos at the same time as the music files because they're in different directories. Also, a lot of DLNA servers will transcode some codecs before streaming the file to another device.

In this case, MP3s in my iTunes library worked fine. However, the AAC files I had (I ripped CDs to AAC), showed up as "unsupported data."

But then I found a trial DLNA server called EyeConnect for the Mac. With that, the same AAC files played okay on the PS3 but it transcoded them to PCM first. My understanding is there are DLNA servers which will stream the raw bits. That should work better as the PS3 does support AAC decoding.

On the Windows side, people are using WMP11, Nero and something called TVersity. If you Google around, people are posting detailed experiences with streaming from their computer.

Great ideas. When I have a little more time, I will have to search around to see what I can did up on media streaming.

First they need to keep up period to maintain status quo. RSV still isn't out, GRAW2 got pushed back again and I won't be surprised if it's canceled. Most ports aren't even hitting anywhere near the same time frame.

HOME is going to blow, have you tried it? I have it's going to suck for anyone who wants to get into games quickly. They are never going to be able to deliver what they are promising out of the gate, this is Sony promise the moon deliver some cheese.

As for a price cut, when they do one they won't cut it more the $50 - $100 which still makes it the most expensive system out there.
I'm very happy with my purchase and the online system is growing on me (as I discover more), so that I have figured out how to have an XBox Live like experience in terms of seeing when friends are online and getting into a game.
EDIT: I'm changing this to avoid a flame war. Lets just say if you don't own a PS3 yet, I would take some of the things being said in this thread with a grain of salt.

$20 and worth it to me. I know you can plug into your PC. But I like all my stuff in the same room and my PC isn't.

I just got a ps3, and have found the demos online, but I do not see the GT HD demo there for download. Was it on a disk that you guys got or online?

Thanks.

It's there, but I had the same trouble. Try the list of "top downloads" down in the bottom right.

I downloaded it last night - took about three hours. It is listed in the demo, games, and top 10 section.

For the PS3? I thought this game doesn't come out until December.

No it's the PS2 version, but for $30 you're getting a steal IMO. GFreat game if you like the series. For $30 I got the collectors version because they were out of the normal version.

I didn't know they were remaking it for the PS3.

IPOD work around

#1: Plug you Ipod into your PS3.

#2: Go to the music section and scroll down to USB Device (Ipod)

#3: Press triangle then click display all.

#4: Click Ipod Central then wait a second until you see music.

#5: Press Music then you will see F00 proceeding by F01 and onward.

#6: Now click F00 and you will see a list of songs.

#7: Now scroll over the song you wish to download and click triange.

#8: Now a menu will come up. Press copy.

#9: Now your song will download to your PS3. This should take less then 3 seconds.

#10: Now press circle and proceed to do the same for the rest of the songs you wish to download.

#11: When done click circle until you are back at the main music section.

#12: Disconnect your Ipod and you will see all of the song listed by albums.

The only thing that sucks about doing it this way is that you can only download one song at a time which can take a while if you have 500 songs like me. I bet sony did this on purpose so that you wouldnt take up your whole hard drive if you have a 30 gb Video like me. You can speed it up by downloading the whole folder or multiple songs from the same folder.

For example: While scrolling over F00 or any other folder press triangle then click copy and it should download everything in that folder or (my favorite) while scrolled over a song in the folder press triangle and then press up. You should see (copy multiple). Click it and select the songs you wish to download from that folder then click (OK). You should be good to go.

If you want to download your videos all you have to do if follow these same directions. Even direction #'s 4 and 5. (you have to click music) wierd I know. When you go into the folder and select the video watch it to make sure you know which video it is first. With mine the names were all messed up.

If you wish you can sort everything by artist. To do this you must scroll over one of the albums (any one) then click triangle and press up. You should be scrolled over (Group Content) if you are then press right and click which option you choose to search your music under. Press X and you should be good to go. The same should be good for videos. Except it should say (sort by) instead.

If you wish to edit the information that the song/video has posted then scroll over the song you wish to edit then click triangle then scroll down till you see (information). Click it and scroll down each item and press X to edit that information.

Everything I have shown you here today is based on my setup. I have a 30gb Ipod video, a PS3 60gb, and a USB connector cord.

This is all of the info I have found so far. I will update it with more info as I find it or you can help out and post what you have found.

I hope this is very valuble to everyone who has read it. I know it is long but it is definetly worth it.

Those of you who are buying BR movies, have you found a good website for deals?

I checked www.dvdplanet.com and the prices aren't that bad.

Do you guys know about any other?

Well i traded in Resistance because i wanted to try some PS2 games i never played as i owned a PS2 long before they came out. In the three for two used sale at Gamestop i was able to grab God of War (the first one), Ace Combat 5 and Socom 3 for $12 out of pocket. After some online research these seemed to be three of the better PS2 games. Any thoughts on any of them from those that have played them? Just curious as to whether i made good choices as i have a week to trade them in for three others.

I'm not a FF fan so that wasn't really a consideration. I would have liked to have grabbed a sports title but nothing really jumped out except MVP 07, but with The Show i didn't think another baseball game would get any play. Thanks for any thoughts.

FYI, Block Buster is supposed to started stocking Blu-Ray movies shortly for rental. Also, Hollywood is going to start stocking both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD as well. Hopefully, it'll be sooner than later.
