Season Nine Cup Semifinals Complete, Final Set

The Final of the DSP WE League Season Nine Cup has been set, as Macca's West Ham Utd. and Sully's Fiorentina emerged victorious from their Semifinal matchups. In the first Semifinal, Macca's Hammers made easy work of a game Monaco side with a 4-2 vicotory, and in the second, Sully's Fiorentina were able to stave off the potent attack of Inter Milan to win with a 2-1 score.

Best of luck to both Finalists, and damn, I wish I could observe this game online.

Fiorentina is home. The game should be up in the Cup area at SGN, as well.

Good luck!

The Hotspur traveled to Sampdoria for the League opener. The first 30 minutes saw each team create chances, but neither could break through, as the final passes left the attack stalled.

Tottenham finally broke the deadlock in the 38th minute as a Davids cross to Berbatov to the far post was headed in by the Sampdoria defender. 5 minutes later, Berbatov beat his defender inside and gave the Hotspur a 2-0 lead going into Half.

Dafoe put the game away on a lovely diving header in the 75th minute

Sampdoria pulled one back as a beautiful diving volley finish by Volpi beat Robinson but it was a little to late to stage a comeback.

Great game Zep!

Match Report

Aston Villa 3 Tottenham 4

SOG 17, 13
Tar 10, 10
FK 5, 5
Cor 1, 1,
Posses 47, 53

Bookings

Tottenham: Jenas, Stalteri (Yellow Cards)

Scoring:

Aston Villa

Angel 8', Baros 33', 47'

Tottenham

Berbatov 4', Defoe 10', 41', Keane 51

Aston Villa's season opener was spoiled by the firepower of Tottenham Hostpur. The visitors came roaring out of the starting blocks with a picture perfect set up for Dimitar Berbatov, who blasted home the opener in just the 5th minute. The home side responded quickly, with Juan Pablo Angel grabbing a Milan Baros pass, touching the ball past the defender and firing into the lower right corner for the equalizer. The tone of the match was set: high tempo and goals aplenty.

Just two minutes after Villa equalized, Tottenham again took the lead on a disputed goal. Defoe, grabbing the first of a brace on the day, beat the offside trap and in turn beat the Villa keeper. It was a very near thing, and supporters were muttering about the goal throughout the afternoon.

Chances continued to be cheap for both sides, but it took until the 33rd minute for Villa to draw level a second time. Milan Baros split two defenders and was free one-on-one with the Spurs keeper. Baros' initial effort was parried, but the Czech striker cleaned up his own mess and bundled home the equalizer.

Tottenham once again saw the even score as a red flag to step on the gas, and in the 41st minute Defoe took advantage to some terribly weak defending by Mellberg to grab his second. Given far too much time and space in the area, the England international blasted one into the far post side netting to re-establish the visitors' advantage.

Both sides certainly welcomed the halftime whistle after such a frenetic half of football, but neither side looked to back down. Just two minutes after the restart, Baros grabbed his second of the match. Slian Petrov chipped a deep cross and Baros' far post header beat a wrong-footed keeper. The match was now even at 3.

Showing again their ability to seemingly score at will, Spurs dialed up a lovely run of play which ended with Robbie Keane free on the Villa keeper. His shot was right at the keeper, but was strong enough to shrug off the attempted save and still find glory in the back of the net.

The Villains continued to attack relentlessly and had several very good chances for the equalizer. Several set-piece opportunities came up just short and the visitors were able to make their one goal advantage hold up.

Great game, Cloud. I don't think I can play any better with this team against Spurs, so I was disappointed. But you were able to turn it on with those forwards and I just had no answer. Good luck down the road.

PS You need to add Stalteri to your roster for the YC

Did I forget to post this result? I guess so:

UC Sampdoria 1 : 1 Bolton Wanderers FC

Sampdoria and Wanderers started their seasons with a game at the Italians' home, the Bernabéu, and ended up sharing the points thanks to a late equalizer from the visitors through Anelka.

The first half was nip and tuck, with plenty of chances but woeful finishing on both sides. Early in the second half, Smapdoria got on the board thanks to a goal from Ruben Olivera in minute 48. As the half wore on, Sampdoria began venturing forward less and less, and finally started bunkering in with committment with about 10 minutes to go. But in minute 87, Anelka came through for Bolton. He carved out some space at the top of the box and worked a one-two which allowed him to lose his marker. He received the return pass right inside the arc, took one touch, and blasted a clean finish past the sprawling keeper. It was a devastating goal for the home team, but surely lifted the spirits of the Bolton side as they look forward to the long season.

Sampdoria 1 : 1 Bolton

Shots 9 (6) : 15 (10)
Corners 3 : 4
Fouls 4 (2) : 3 (1)
Poss. 50 : 50

no bookings
no injuries

Good game, Naples. Ooooh I was frustrated to give that one up! It's going to be a loooooong season, methinks. Anyway, it was a tough, even, fun match, just as it should be in this league! Good luck, and I'll see you in the 2nd half.

well, in C. Athletico's first game in the Premiership, it ended up turning into a 1-1 draw, after Fernando Torrez's header in the 84th minute. Flachi scored for Zepp's UC Sampdoria's side, connecting in the 26th minute. C.Athletico turned the heat on with some chances in the first few opening minutes, before momentum swung the other way.. Both squads had excellent chances for more tallys (for Sampdoria's best chance was a shot that struck the post)..

good game Zeppo..

shots were 12(4) for Athletico, 9(3) for Sampdoria
no fouls or cards were recorded

only one corner, for Athletico
also only one offsides in the match

possession was in favor of UC, with a 53% to 47% margin.

'Twas M. Petrov who scored your goal, I believe, Isles.

   It is going to be a long season for Sampdoria. This is the second game I've given up the equalizer in the final 5 minutes. Of course, it could have been 2-0 Atletico after 10 minutes with all the chances and the one gift-wrapped turnover, but I got through that.

Good game, Isles, and good luck the rest of the way!

Match Report

Aston Villa 5 Sampdoria 0

SOG 15, 9
Tar 10, 6
CK 2, 0
FK 4, 3
Posses 50, 50

Bookings

Villa: Laursen (Yellow)
Sampdoria: Flachi (Yellow)

Scoring

Villa: Baros 12', 16', 40', 69' Angel 80'

Aston Villa capitalized on the torrid form of Milan Baros to grab their first win of Season 10. Baros was all over the pitch in a 5-0 victory over Sampdoria. He scored four consecutivce goals and was a man on a mission throughout. He opened the scoring with a clinical finish after making a nice run onto Angel's angled through ball. His second found him hammering home his own rebound after the Sampdoria keeper made a fine initial save. Djemba Djemba set up the third with a dazzling individual effort, sliding to dispossess an Italian defender, dribbling into the area and slotting back a low angled cross which Baros blasted into the goal from 8 yards.

Sampdoria had many more chances than the scoreline would indicate. Villa's keeper Sorensen had a fine day between the pipes making several athletic saves. In the 63rd minute Flachi had a wonderful chance with a poweful header only to see the ball ricochet off of the post. That play was representative of Sampdoria's luck on the day.

Good game, Zep. Baros was just out of his mind, and without any sort of positive arrow to boot. You easily could've grabbed one back in the first half but for Sorensen, and the woodwork...well...that's just some shitty luck. Sampdoria are going to be tough to do much with, but that scoreline was way too flattering to me.

Unbelievably demoralizing. This team selection process is screwed up, I call BS! :P At least when I get relegated, it will mean I won't have to deal with Macca!

Guys, a reminder that the deadline for the first half of Season Ten is this Sunday, May 27. I know we started a couple days late last week, but even so the progress has been lacking so far. Let's get some games going, gang! Extension for the first half will be automatic this time around, but we do need to see some activity soon or there may be some first half forfeits come the official, pre-extension full season deadline, two weeks from Sunday.

Sorry I haven't been around much. I was away this past weekend, and now I'm dealing with another dead 360. I'll put a call into MS tomorrow or Tuesday, but I imagine it's going to take a couple weeks to get it back.

Marseille vs Real Madrid

18 niang
30 niang
71 barnago
80 ronaldo

7(5) shots on target 12(3)
3 free kicks 3
1 corner kicks 1
3(2) fouls(offside) 3(1)
38 possession 62

Marseille made sure to capitalize on few goal opportunities as they took on Real Madrid. There were two great goals. Niang scored from a a tough angle as he went by couple defenders. But porbably the best one was by a volley shot from barnago that went to the top corner leaving casillas clueless by giving the french team 3-0 lead. Ronaldo scored the only goal from Madrid fans. Maybe this will get him a starting position next game.

Marseille undefeated from two games look forward to the next couple games to recap the first half of the season.
