Terrific program on the media's role in the run up to Iraq.

"Here's how it works: the president makes decisions. He's the Decider. The press secretary announces those decisions, and you people of the press type those decisions down. Make, announce, type. Just put 'em through a spell check and go home. Get to know your family again. Make love to your wife. Write that novel you got kicking around in your head. You know, the one about the intrepid Washington reporter with the courage to stand up to the administration. You know - fiction!"

It's rather sad commentary when the fake news shows are better at reflecting reality than the real news shows.Leebo33 wrote:"Here's how it works: the president makes decisions. He's the Decider. Bill Moyers is actually having Jon Stewart on his PBC program this week talking about that very thing.dougb wrote:It's rather sad commentary when the fake news shows are better at reflecting reality than the real news shows.Leebo33 wrote:"Here's how it works: the president makes decisions. Did anyone catch the PBS special, "America at a Crossroads"? I watched about 8 out of 12 or so. It was brilliant journalism. It ranged from having Richard Pearl for an entire hour about the reasons for war, to a Canadian muslim journalist, to the history of a middle east conflict, to the soldiers "in their own words" type of show. It was brave television that the mainstream media will not touch.
Plus it makes you admire what Edward R. Murrow did in the 1950 in taking on McCarthy. Instead we have this...tonight on the Nightly News Campbell Brown had a blurb in how the movie companies are fighting piracy. In the very beggining she mentioned how Universal was the parrent company. Gee makes you wonder how newsworthy it was and if NBC would done a story on this threat to western society if it wasn't for their connection to universal.

I think it's on tonight on your local PBS station.
