This game is basically 2K (Dreamcast Original) without the NFL License. 2K did not have Franchise mode, nor did the user have the ability to edit the players. I see the game as a tester for gameplay purposes just to get a response. If they add transition animations, decent player models, smarter a.i., coupled with their fantastic presentations, they'll have a leg up on Madden already, gameplay wise that is. Madden still hasn't got the challenge system that 2K implemented 3 years ago down pat!
This window for 2K to come back has been opened by Madden's uneven and boring presentation of what they call football.

That doesn't make sense at all. There's a chance it's going to be the best playing football game ever made. Now if they don't allow you to edit the rosters into the real NFL (or whatever) it makes it like Blitz without the fun?laurenskye wrote:If it's just a test why in the world would they not allow player, team, even stadium editing. That should be their test. To see if uploaded rosters and the like would work. Right now it looks like Blitz without the fun of Blitz. In otherwords, disaster.
If it's essentially a better 2k5 with much better secondary play and better AI I'll be playing it FAR longer than that shell of a football game "madden." Even if I'm playing with the Colorado Bumblebees.

Talk about the pot calling the kettle. You're basing this assumption on what exactly? A 4 page article which pretty much tells us what the game IS NOT going to have, instead of what it is.TheHiddenTrack wrote:That doesn't make sense at all. Before this article the 2K fans were ranting on how this game was going to be the best ever, have customization out the whazoo and be a genre defining title.
Now things don't look that pretty and you guys are still ok with it? The same folks who bashed Madden for not including all these features in next gen are ok with 2K not including them.
I don't know whether this game will be great, good or not worth a rental as they haven't told me anything but marketing slogans. I'd actually like to hear about some of these so called "bombs" that 2K is going to drop, but are keeping close to the vest so the competition doesn't steal them (casue we all know EA could steal and implement ideas in 4 months time geesh)

I could live with the editing restrictions if there was a franchise mode, because as you draft fictional players, the NFLPA license becomes less important. But to pay $60 (if that's what they charge) for:
-- No NFL teams
-- No NFL players
-- No NFL stadiums
-- No way to edit these three things
-- No franchise mode
...seems like a rip off to me. Maybe they will charge less, maybe they have other things cooking that will provide some added value, but right now I went from enthusiastic to thinking this will be 4th and Inches with better graphics.

My hunch is that this game will focus soley on online league play. Hence drafting your team from scratch and playing online etc.
But again no one really knows for sure. That exclusive from GI was a pretty crap article.

That game would fail miserably IMO. Have you tried the baseball MMO? Sounds great on paper, but doesn't translate well. Besides who would want to play Offensive LineScoopBrady wrote:I will overlook all of those things if they release a title that can play 11-on-11 online with 22 seperate Xboxes. IMO that's the type of progress they need to achieve to make this game matter.

Here's the full article. Honestly, after my initial disappointment, I'm excited again about 2K8. I think it's safe to say that the 2K5 engine had a tremendous amount of promise but also had some serious problems that detracted from the overall experience (DB AI, the inability to defend mobile QBs, etc). If VC is spending this time working exclusively on the game engine and the AI, then I'm willing to put up with the fictional teams and players. The bar for them is very high- VC needs to create the best playing football game ever, otherwise no one is going to play the game. That said, I don't think it's an unattainable goal.

All they had to do was generic football with an editor. Not even a logo editor just a player and name editor.
If the gameplay was great and had an editor that changed the Denver Mule-Haulers to the Broncos...that would have been enough. Oh and custimizable online league system.
2k Sports is the winner for dumbest design decision in a game yet. Previous winners, Konami for WE and EA Sports for NFL Headcoach and 2k Sports for its NBA and College Hoop menues.

I couldn't have asked for a better end to my day, first the Cards beat the Reds, and then I see 2k has finally spilled the beans on the legends in this game. Personally, I can't wait to get my hands on this one. I've always loved 2k football, and the fact that they've got guys like Barry Sanders, Barry Foster, Bubby Brister, Johnny U., Montana, Marino, Elway, Greg Lloyd, Lee Roy Selmon, Ray Guy, Warren Moon, Earl Campbell, OJ Simpson, Chuck Noll, and about 230 other Legends in there really has me pumped to put together a team and play. Great direction for this series, IMO...just wish Jack Lambert was going to be in the game...hopefully next year!

The Legends thing does sound cool but... Lacking the NFLPA license all that will matter is the the game play..ie DBs that know what planet they are from.
Madden hasnt really sat on the license...well they haven been pretty cheap on the xtras and doing the usuall EA bullshit but saying that....
Madden 2007, contrary to all the negative I heard, I thought played a very very good game of football.
Dont get Me wrong I am VERY happy to see this gaming is making its way to my 360. I missed buying 3 football games a year.

If they deliver next generation animations/graphics/presentation and improve upon an already great football engine (sounds like they've been concentrating on the right improvements under the hood, and they've certainly had plenty of time to do it), and also manage to give us something like 1080p or 60 fps or 7.1 sound, then I'd gladly pay $100 for the game. I'd probably be glad to buy you one, too.Leebo33 wrote:$60

If people are sick enough of Madden and/or want that old 2K gameplay and they are hoping Take2 goes after the NFL and NFLPA licenses eventually, then it might make sense to buy the game, as a way of financing continued development of an alternative.GTHobbes wrote:If they deliver next generation animations/graphics/presentation and improve upon an already great football engine (sounds like they've been concentrating on the right improvements under the hood, and they've certainly had plenty of time to do it), and also manage to give us something like 1080p or 60 fps or 7.1 sound, then I'd gladly pay $100 for the game. But if they just upgraded their old engine, that would not be very interesting, no matter how one preferred the old 2K games.
Then they'd be pulling the same thing EA did.
If they used Natural Motion as some speculated after Rockstar licensed it, then they'd be more deserving of funding.
I wasn't that into the legends concept, but this collection is so funky that I'm kind of feeling it. I love the fact that they have guys like Neil O' Donnell, Al Del Greco, Andre Ware and Solomon Wilcots mixed in with Johnny Unitas, Joe Montana, Jerry Rice and Walter Payton. The range is just hysterical. Plus there are some of my old favorite players like Steve Bartkowski, Freeman McNeil and Archie Manning. Trippy.
According to the little bit of information released about this game today, it sounds like the rumors from a couple of weeks ago were false and that full customization is in. I know it's just wishful thinking on my part, but it would be great to see this game outsell the numbers the old 2k series used to put up. If they deliver on gameplay and graphics/presentation, there could be a buzz about the game that could rival Tecmo Bowl, IMO.
