NR 2003: I've officially lost my mind

Post by pk500 »

Fellow NR 2003 enthusiasts:

Since I discovered the wonders of NASCAR Racing 2003 Season a few months back, I've enthusiastically searched for and downloaded mods, tracks and vehicle paint jobs for this amazing game.

I knew that my downloaded mods, cars and vehicles were piling up, but I had no idea about the depth of my sickness until I did a little inventory over lunch today:

Mods -- 7 (Aero88, Craftsman Trucks, Busch Grand National, Grand National 1970, Whelen Modifieds, Saturday Night Stock Car, Trans Am)

Tracks (including originals) -- 148 (Superspeedways, speedways, short tracks, road courses, street circuits, dirt tracks)

Vehicles (including originals) -- 907 (Aero88, 56; CTS, 107; Cup, 349; GN70, 96; GNS, 70; TA, 96; SNSC, 77; WM, 56)

I need mental help. Anyone else get this carried away with this sim at this time or when it was released?

I sure as hell hope not. :)

Take care,
PK

LOL, I had over 200 tracks for Grand Prix Legends and over 80 for GTR at one time. I'm more of a track ho than a car ho however.

If you're sick, you're in the same ward with the rest of us!

There was not that many mod tracks when the game originally came out, so I did not have much at all in that aspect, but I have a couple of CDs burned around here somewhere that at the time had about 5000 cars on them. On the hard drive itself I had about 7-8000 as well.

There were so many custom cars, that when I found a new one I just downloaded it so I ended out having very few generic opponents when I raced.

Since the resurrection, I have downloaded all the mods, and a good chunk of tracks, even found the old track that was just down the road from where I grew up at. It was a trip cause they had the entire track mapped out damn near exact.

Holy sh*t! I'm a rank amateur, a damn plebe! :)

I'm REALLY digging the Saturday Night Stock Car and Whelen Modified mods on some true Saturday night bullrings of 4/10ths of a mile or less. Bowman-Gray is a trip -- a quarter-mile with big-radius turns. You're on each straight for about two seconds per lap!

Then again, I could download the late, great Langhorne -- no straights, just a giant circle. Nah, I'm dizzy enough when I race. :)

Take care,
PK

Join the club. I have an elaborate Excel spreadsheet that I use to keep track of all my NR2003, GPL, GTR, GTL, RBR, and rFactor updates.

I can't believe there is something out there that I don't know about, but give me the links to the Whelen Modifieds, Saturday Night Stock Car mods!

PS - When are we racing again? In the last 2 weeks I have bought a house and sold ours so I need a little racing time.

Don:

Saturday Night Stock Car mod:

http://dakotasimracing.com/mods.html

The Whelen Modified mod was listed here, but it's been removed in the last week, probably because the team is preparing another beta version for release:

Hopefully a new one will be posted soon.

As for our races, my zeal is unabated. But as I explained to JackB1 yesterday on the phone, the Stanley Cup Playoffs are my night-time priority now. If a game is on, chances are I'm going to watch it. And there are games on every night through April, and I leave May 8 for Indy for the month.

So I really don't want to be the guy who calls an NR 2003 Poker Night and then doesn't show up because there's a great hockey game that went to OT or something.

Anyone else should feel free to call an NR 2003 Poker Night, as I'm the only one in our group who is hopelessly infected by hockey. You never know, I might jump in for a quick race if the games end as scheduled or a game is between periods!

Take care,
PK
